DAVIDSWELT  Note: This is a preview version. We regularly maintain and recommend version 1.9 for mission-critical use.

The correct version name of this is "2.0preview3".

DAVIDSWELT  Actually, Aquamacs already comes with python-mode and all you need to do is

(require 'python-mode)

We will enable this variant by default for python in future 2.0 series releases.

Thanks for your input.

DAVIDSWELT  Want to check out our latest work? Download a nightly build of the new 2.0 branch, which is based on Cocoa and Emacs 23. It's far from perfect yet, but already quite usable: http://aquamacs.org/nightlies.shtml

DAVIDSWELT  If you're on a PPC Mac and you downloaded 1.6preview4 on Monday Dec 29, you may encounter a problem with the Finder refusing to run Aquamacs ("not for this architecture"). We've fixed this - just download again. If you're not on PPC, there is no need to download it again.

DAVIDSWELT  your comment doesn't make sense.

I never said that Office was a UB, and I also didn't say that Monolingual deleted anything that was part of Office. It deleted PPC system resources that are necessary to run certain PPC software (such as Office )on Intel Macs.

DAVIDSWELT  Folks, do not use the option that allows you to strip PPC code from Universal Binaries to save space on your Intel machine.

This feature is seriously flawed, as it deleted system resources that are important and needed whenever applications are run under Rosetta. In my case, Excel stopped working with certain files, and I couldn't synchronize (hotsync) my Palm any more (it's a PPC application).

I had to manually debug this (Console) reinstall a number of files from my backup (mostly /System/Library/Printers and /System/Library/Extensions and God knows what). This would probably have been too difficult for many users, and they would have had to reinstall OS X.

Until this piece of software has been updated to stay away from /System files, I recommend not using the "strip universal binaries" function.

XYPHER  Perhaps you should have been aware that Office was never a UB in the first place. Developer should instate an exclude list feature.

DDD for Mac OS X

DAVIDSWELT  I'm afraid Terry Teague passed away in 2005.

As an alternative to DDD, try out Aquamacs Emacs, which comes with a built-in visual debugging interface to a number of common debuggers, including gdb and pdb. Download here:

DAVE  The AIM thing doesn't work for me. I've tried to send a text to myself and it says "not available". I'm with VirginMobile.

I tried with and without the +1, using my country code instead.

ps.: somewhat limited view of the world, eh?

DAVID REITTER  there was a problem with the 0.9.1 download off SourceForge that persisted for a couple of hours. This has been fixed now - follow the link from here and you'll get the right file.

Or, try our current beta version, available from

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=138078
