DARUKARU With the latest 5.10 sneakypeeks, OmniWeb has all of the best features of Safari 4 (blazing fast rendering and JavaScript performance) with none of the drawbacks (Safari 4's bizarre tabs), and a bevy of additional features. The Site Preferences alone are indispensable—the ability to set custom style sheets on a per-site basis is something that every browser should ship with by default. Its adblocking isn't quite as powerful as Firefox with Adblock Plus, and I wish it supported GreaseKit user scripting, but there's very little else to complain about. (Version 5.9.2)

SOUTHPAWAMI I did a reformat of my HD. In the reinstall, I've stayed away from Safari beta. Presently... I have Safari 3.2.3 on my machine(which scores only 75 of 100 on acid 3). Which means... Omniweb 5.10 sneaky peak passes Acid 3 without any help from Safari's engine. Add Gopher... and it's quite a toy. (Version 5.9.2)

DARUKARU This isn't for people who aren't comfortable with the command line--if you don't know or care what /usr/local/bin is, or how to put things there, give it a pass. If you want a great GUI for encoding MP3s, try Max. (Version 3.98)

SHOCK J Max is a great GUI encoder less the fact it uses MusicBrainz for ID tagging, which practically never finds the CD you're trying rip. You have to do a lot of manual ID tag entry with it. (Version 3.98)

DARUKARU A nice little app. It's about as good as Vuze/Azureus when it comes to maximizing peer connections and download speeds (an area where Transmission has always fallen flat), but without the multi-hundred-megabyte RAM footprint. It doesn't seem to have any ability to save into any folder other than the default download folder in the preferences, though. (Version 0.9b)

Plex | Nov 18 2008 |
DARUKARU The Plex Seven series takes a big step forward towards integration with the iLife suite. The streamlining of the preferences is also a bonus. Unfortunately the main attraction (library mode) is still touchy and unforgiving to set up, and there still doesn't appear to be an easy way to fix library entries that aren't scanned correctly. (Version 0.7)

Transmission | Aug 10 2008 |
DARUKARU It keeps getting better with every new version. It still won't see/connect to as many peers as Azureus will, though, which is weird. (Version 1.32)

iScrobbler | Aug 9 2008 |
DARUKARU The amount of virtual memory a process takes up (as displayed in Activity Monitor) is largely irrelevant. What does bother me is that iScrobbler randomly jumps to 300+ MB of real RAM use (even on a 3GB system this is nontrivial) and never goes down again until I quit the app and restart it. (Version 2.2b5)

SEBASTI_AN G Hi, I also had the same problem, where iScrobbler hogged around 300mb of real memory, and 2–3gb of virtual mem. I found that if you view info on the application and choose to launch it in "32bit mode" its footprint goes down to between 8–20mb of real mem and around 800 of vim. (Version 2.2b5)

DARUKARU Absolutely beautiful upscaling--better than QuickTime or VLC's to my eye. DVDs look nearly HD. More documentation about how to set up the media library would be helpful. Heck, more documentation period. (Version 0.5b5)

DARUKARU To call the interface clunky would be an understatement (although it's still better than SiriusMac), but the functionality is all there. Smarter trackers and the ability to actually play the SIR-only stations seal the deal. (Version 1.0b10)

GOODTIME Clunky? What machine are you running it on? I can run this on a PowerBook Pismo G3 and it runs fine.. No clunkiness here on any of the Machines that I tested including underground hacks, intel Macs and G3, G4 and G5. (Version 1.0b10)

StarLightXM | Dec 29 2007 |
GOODTIME There is more than meets the eye in StarPlayr. Popup menus for Genres and Channels. 1) Hot Fkeys for Presets. 2) 10 ten presets can be programmed in under a minute using the Program toggle button. 3) Keyboard shortcuts via arrow keys or numeric keypad. See undocumented keyboard shortcuts and also screenshots at nicemac.com 4) Better error correction on recordings and live StarMP3 progress. 5) Many users like the UI based on feedback on the forums. 6) And it is still in beta. (Version 1.0b10)

StarLightXM | Jan 10 2008 |
KINGADROCK I think by "clunky" he means it's ugly, needlessly confusing, and non-traditional in appearance. It runs just fine but the interface really could use a makeover. (Version 1.0b15)

StarLightXM | Jan 10 2008 |
GOODTIME Trust me, There will not be a makeover. This is my design and I am sticking to it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. (Version 1.0b15)

StarLightXM | Jan 10 2008 |
KINGADROCK Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, but functionality applies to everyone. There are Apple User Interface Guidelines for a reason. As the developer, it's your right to ignore the tried and true methods recommended by Apple and incorporate your own non-traditional approach. To each his own, but I think you'd really benefit from a better GUI. (Version 1.0b15)

StarLightXM | Jan 10 2008 |
GOODTIME I see. Apple changes it's guidelines and UI.. iPhone and Leopard are prime examples. There will be an option to re-skin StarPlayr down the road and I may have a more traditional version as well. (Version 1.0b15)

StarLightXM | Jan 10 2008 |
GOODTIME Thank you for the feedback. I'll give the UI some more thought. It is a work in progress. I think it is still let than 1 month old. Soul Developer of StarPlayr (Version 1.0b15)

DARUKARU 3.0b1 is somewhat buggy, but the nightlies following it are greatly improved. Less daring users should probably wait until 3.0b2, especially since more extensions will be updated by then. That said, text rendering quality (and web rendering in general) and memory usage are vastly improved over Firefox 2. Brave testers should visit https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397723 to download a preview of the new theme that will be featured when 3.0 goes final. (Version 3.0b1)

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS That's method is fine if you want to move your whole library to another drive in a single parent folder. This software is meant for people who keep music on multiple drives and want to move some parts of their collection to different drives while retaining important meta information in iTunes and without the trouble of manually searching for various folders to move around and add back.
