CYBORG9 Yeah, the developer should incorporate a white background selection into myTexts and offer myTexts only. Or why not follow WriteRoom's example and offer one's own custom background color capability for myTexts....there's no shame in that. Offering myTexts Snow as a separate app makes no sense at all. CYBORG9 I'm wondering how difficult it would be to allow a choice of one's desktop wallpaper as a TimeFlow background? But, yeah, allowing the speed at which the time readout is generated to be slowed down would be real nice. Anyway, nice work so far. (Version 2.0)

Norton AntiVirus Definitions | Sep 2 2009 |
CYBORG9 Norton antivirus? The mere mention of that name should give any self respecting Mac user a case of spontaneous, explosive diarrhea. Truthfully, as has oft been said, there just ain't no active virus threat out there in the wild for Macs at the moment. One of these days, there likely will be. So, it might be wise to have some anti virus protection at one's disposal. There is, though, no reason to pay through the nose for some virus protection such as the dreaded and sickening Norton or the quite overpriced Intego VirusBarrier (they've got a $30 yearly fee for virus definition updates after one's first year of Virusbarrier use). There's the highly regarded and free ClamX. (Version 9/1/09)

IGREG The new iAntiVirus by PC Tools works nicely with background scanning (and no apparent slowing of the system), easy interface, fast updates and there is a free version. The weaknesses of ClamX AV are its fairly complex interface, weakness in providing much automatic protection. Although ClamX AV is also free. I have always used an antivirus, not because it is really needed at this time, but to be familiar & comfortable using an antivirus if & when it is really needed. Norton AV and Intego AV are both good, and while the purchase prices are not too bad, the annual virus definitions subscriptions are way too expensive. (Version 9/18/09)

CYBORG9 Well, I finally got the correct time setting for my time zone (PST). In the GMT Hours tab I typed in -8, then in Daylight Savings Time I spun the dial (which was at 0) to 1, without typing in either a - or +. Hopefully, the clock readout will remain accurate. Earlier, when spinning any of the dials, the corresponding numbers would not reach my intended setting, either falling short or going long. It's too soon to say "all's well now".....I'll just have to wait and see. BTW, are Michaël Fortin and Simon Carpentier(whose website I'm taken to when clicking on your name one and the same people? CYBORG9 Turning the little dial won't give me a correct GMT number for my time zone. I'm on the west coast of the States (PST). GMT either -7 or -8. I managed to get a GMT setting of 7 but screensaver clock then read an hour earlier than my correct time. I tried to spin the dial to 8 but can't reach that number....I can only get to 7.4-7.6. and then the numbers start going retrograde. I think that it might make more sense if one could set one's current time a la 10:30 am or pm for example. Anyway, the dial technique is just not working for me. At least if when typing in the correct GMT the number would stay stable and then reflect my correct time on the clock. Maybe more work is needed to get the clock screensaver to work properly? CYBORG9 The time on my installed Illuminated Clock remains three hours off. There's no apparent method to adjust the time setting in the screensaver's options, just "decoration dimming" and "background dimming"; changing the numbers there does not alter the set time. MICHAëL FORTIN You should have the setting with 1.1, you must not have the most recent version. Make sure to restart System Preferences after overwriting the qtz file with the new one. You will get the GMT offset setting then. The GMT setting works but the value you must enter does not match with the real GMT offset for your area. It's messed up because I made the GMT fix real quick last night for it to work else for most people it would have been useless. I will make the GMT values fit in the next version as well as make some new parameters available in the screen saver options. (Version 1.1)

Illuminated Clock Screensaver | Aug 23 2009 |
MICHAëL FORTIN I will update to version 1.2 today, which corrects the GMT offset behavior. I encountered the problem you said, but that is beyond my control; the screensaver options panel is automatically generated by Quartz Composer, so it seems like an issue with the way System Preferences store its Quartz screen savers' parameters. I had success with entering a value multiple times though, it was saved after a few tries. I hope it'll work for you. (Version 1.1)

MICHAëL FORTIN "I think that it might make more sense if one could set one's current time a la 10:30 am or pm for example." The thing is I have no control over the way the options are presented in the screen saver options panel. This is the only way Quartz compositions enables numerical values to be set by the user. "I managed to get a GMT setting of 7 but screensaver clock then read an hour earlier than my correct time." You should set the Daylight Saving Time value to -1 or 1 to correct the hour. This is the equivalent of adding or substracting an hour in your clocks on daylight saving time. You must spin the dial controller in a circular motion to change the value. On my computer there is no problem setting a value greater than 8 (there doesn't seem to be a limit either on the positive or negative side). If that does not work, typing a value and pressing enter while the cursor is still in the text box does it for me. "Maybe more work is needed to get the clock screensaver to work properly?" I'm doing my best, but like I said I can't change how Quartz screen savers' preferences work. (Version 1.2)

A big shortcoming of MacScan is its apparent inability to detect spyware that uses Stealth/Invisability methods which is claimed to render the spyware undetectable. I tested MacScan with one of them (Aobo Keylogger) and MacScan didn't detect it. Unless SecureMac...MacScan's developer, is able to "sensitize" MacScan to the presence of such spyware, MacScan can't be considered totally reliable. CYBORG9 Well, I don't get it. I set a key combo and it triggers a screen saver but doing a mouse click or pressing any key stops screen saver and returns one to desktop. Nothing at all is locked. What's the benefit to this? Am I missing something here? (Version 0.1)

AESCHYLUS There is one more thing you need to do to make this work. In the System Preferences under Security, check the box that says "Require password to wake from sleep... " This way, you'll need to enter a password every time the screensaver is activated. This is a very useful program. (Version 0.1)

SMART91 Since you have to activate the Password request when exiting from screen-saver or stop mode, you can just use the Mac OS X's integrated keystroke for Quick stop mode (command-option-eject)... It works just fine... And you don't need to load extra-programs in RAM so you save processor cycles and memory... (Version 0.1)

AppDelete | Feb 28 2009 |
CYBORG9 Well, I tried it but it left plenty of files behind of the app that I wanted deleted.. How do I know? I checked using EasyFind after using AppDelete. To be fair, none of the other application deleting apps always removes all an app's files. After using any of them, follow up by using EasyFind to see how efficient or inefficient they are. You can use FindAnyFile instead of EasyFind. It's as least as good. And either can be used to delete Apps and all their files reliably. (Version 2.2)

XENOPHILE Alternatively, you can skip the "deleting application" and just search for application related files using easyfind. Search for the developer name as well as the application name, and you'll usually get all the files. It also helps to know where to look for associated application files, which can vary depending on the tasks carried out by the application. (Version 2.2)

CYBORG9 Been using SM for quite some time now. It's absolutely and totally sublime. Never fails to soothe the savage beast in me. R10Clean Professional | Feb 24 2009 |
CYBORG9 Hey now, lets not single out DataClean Pro's developer for overpricing(or over optimistic pricing), many others do it too. If there are too few buyers, developers will get the message and lower their price of admission. However, what would make the most sense, is for DataClean Pro's developer to at least temporarily offer a special price or petition MacUpdate to make it an MU Promo at a hefty discount. INCARNATE I'm sorry to hear you experienced problems. Client crashes are pretty rare for us. Please give the updated version a try again, and if you still experience issues, consider posting about them on the Bugs or Mac forums of our home site. Also, if the client should crash and bring up our automated bug reporter, please submit the report, they greatly help us in tracking down problems. (Version 1.8.57)

NetShade | Aug 4 2008 |
CYBORG9 I just tried Netshade out for several days and found that it did not hide my IP address. I used the three of the 3 star proxies that were available....the most secure, and when I went to http://os2eagle.net/SSL/phpentry.php as suggested in the review below, my real IP address was shown, not that of the proxy. So Netshade obviously failed. If you use Metshade without actually confirming that it's doing its job, you're putting your anonymity at risk. (Version 3.3.2)

HELIOS9 Same here. My own IP address appeared when using Netshade (3 star most secure proxy)and connecting to the URL mentioned in the previous 2 posts. It's really too bad that Netshade doesn't work as it's supposed to. An easy to use program to anonymously surf the web is something that's really needed in this era of prying eyes all over the internet. (Version 3.3.2)

PowerMail | Jan 3 2008 |
CYBORG9 Hmmm, PowerMail's price has increased by $6...it's $65 now; it's a European company, I believe, and PowerMaul is priced primarily in Euros. With the American greenback growing steadily more anemic, everything European will get more and more costly for us here in the States. Anyway, it's just too expensive for a mail client, imo, and while it's certainly feature rich, I, too, don't need much of what it has to offer. (Version 5.6.1)

Safari AdBlock | Dec 20 2007 |
CYBORG9 Of course, if you really ABOMINATE ads as I do...including those horribly intrusive talking Flash ones, you could go for the superb "PithHelmet". It's highly configurable and you can customize/fine tune it to the nth degree. Block cookies from Doubleclick and the like, too, if you want. It does take a bit of time to set it just the way you want it, but well worth the effort. Its $10 shareware fee is quite fair for the last word in ad blocking for Safari. Check it out. CYBORG9 I gave up on Firefox after finding v2.0.0.9 pretty sluggish..... finally just trashed it. Well, I just gave 2.0.0.10 a whirl, and whaddya know, I'm finding it pretty lively. It's about equal with Safari and Camino. Now I know that some of you are finding this version just as slow as previous versions. Dunno why Firefox is now faster for me, though. Hmm, mysterious. Lock Desktop | Nov 27 2007 |
CYBORG9 Simple and handy, but would be nice if it offered hot key activation as well as activation from the dock. WinSwitch, also free, is another approach to switching to your log-in window; it's based on OS X's Fast user Switching and activates the log-in window via the menu bar. It offers hot key activation as well, and has a few more little neat features, too. I'm now using Lock Desktop along with WinSwitch, since it adds accessibility from the Dock. (Version 1.2)

MacPinball | Nov 21 2007 |
CYBORG9 Firstly, each game in the demo quits before you really get a chance to play it. That's sort of a trademark of all the games from this developer. Secondly, there's really not much to this rendition of pinball. It really has little going for it. I certainly wouldn't pay $10 for it. Even if were free, I'd yawn and move on. Nuff said. Septavo Tangram | Jun 5 2007 |
CYBORG9 Well, different strokes, etc. I, too, would have to say that Septavo Tangram is boring all the way around. And its $20 price is too high. However, for those of us who like to play with ourselves, Solavant, from the same developer, IS an excellent solitaire app, replete with games galore. Very well done and worth its $27. But Septavo Tangram? A big, big yawn I'm afraid. Sorry. (Version 1.0.1)

HENRIKTEKNIK I love tangram games. Would you mind explaining if its tangram games, as such, that you consider being boring, or is it *this* implementation of the game (Septavo Tangram), that you find boring? And if it's the latter, please explain what you're missing. I'm not the developer of this app. I'm just, mind you, getting somewhat confused when I see ratings like this one, as it doesn't really target down, what the real issue with the game might be. Have a GREAT day, my friend, over and out. (Version 1.2.1)

ExposeIP | Nov 27 2006 |
CYBORG9 Dunno, maybe the developer assumes that anyone interested in trying his precious baby already knows how to use it, hence, no manual or intructions; but still, crippling most of its features makes absolutely no sense at all. Hey, developer! Why not make the trial download fully functional for at least a few days, hmmm? And include detailed instructions on how to use it. As it stands, now, I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would purchase this. Anyway, I downloaded ExposeIP, tried to use it, but, like the previous reviewers, just ran into a brick wall. And so, in disgust, I trashed it. Nuff said. (Version 2.0)
