SpamSweep

CRAGGLES  I've been using SpamSweep for quite some time now and I upgraded to Snow Leopard as soon as it was available.

I was surprised when I discovered that SpamSweep wasn't 'compatible' with Snow Leopard as it had been checking my email and delivering the good emails as it usually did - It was only if I wanted to select a message that was marked as spam to make it an approved message (or vice-versa) that it wouldn't let me.

I was assured a compatible version would be released soon but I wanted to make sure my spam emails were kept at bay accurately so I jumped over and grabbed a demo version of SpamSieve.

It was only then that I realised just how simple SpamSweep is to use!

Now we have a Snow Leopard compatible version, I'm definitely waiting for a compatible version of SpamSweep before I install the next major Mac OS. I have to say that SpamSweep is more important to me than any new Mac OS features that Apple can deliver - unless it buys SpamSweep and has it installed directly into Apple Mail! :)

SyncTwoFolders

CRAGGLES  The old adage 'you get what you pay for' is usually correct. So when you come across a FREE app, you should normally be quite wary.

Not so in this case!!

I have tried many different backup/syncing apps to keep a usable backup (not an archived/incremental backup but something I can work on with my Laptop while my Desktop was otherwise busy) on my network drive of my work files and none matched the ease of use of SyncTwoFolders. Obviously, none matched it's price either!

I don't know how it can be given away for free and I initially thought that it it was an old app that was no longer being developed or supported. That was until I needed support and was instantly given it. Regular updates adding some great new features rivalling the most expensive options out there proved my initial scepticism wrong again - and I was glad to be proved wrong in this case!

We have total synchronisation, adding the target's files to the source folder or adding the source folder's files to the target. Automatic deletion of files based on their name or starting characters (which is ideal for not dumping multiple invisible files on the Mac onto a PC disk) and there's even a Batch option where you can carry out multiple syncs all at once.

As if that wasn't enough, in the current version (1.3.5b3) there's even a timer that you can set for the Batch syncing periodically without the need to manually fiddle anymore.

The only thing it's missing (which are really little things) is a progress bar to see how long it's going to take (although you do have the finder copy window for progress), Growl support and Sparkle (for automatic updating from within the app instead of downloading a new copy and then replacing it manually).

I love this app - mostly because the compromises you'd normally make in your expectations to use a free app don't apply here whatsoever! I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd gladly pay for this app if it weren't free.

Thank you Robisson!
