COPILOTO I don't know why this is, but my copy of Quicksilver, downloaded from the Blacktree website says it is version 54. Is this a recent upgrade? (Version 1.0b53)

MACUPDATE ADMIN Thanks for that tip, it's now been posted to MacUpdate. It would be nice if the release notes were made available by the developer, but I can not find them. They must be very well hidden, perhaps they are only accessible from within the app itself, and I do not use Quicksilver so I can not check. (Version 1.0b54)

ERICOB Well, confusingly, the release numbering system of Quicksilver may not follow "conventions." The version I'm running identifies itself as "B54 (3815)." I suspect that the "build number" is the correct number to be monitoring for changes. (Version 1.0b54)

KeePassX | Aug 8 2007 |
COPILOTO An awesome program. I use it for storing and creating passwords and it works like a charm. For a password program to work, several things have to be there: (1) it must be cross-platform (since you have to carry your passwords with you); (2) it cannot prevent you from exporting your data; (3) it has to be open-source, so the crypto can be analyzed, and finally (IMHO) (4) it needs to have a easy to use interface. KeePassX does it all. (Version 0.2.2)

HURRIKENUX There is a checkbox to disable this...hopefully you already found this out by now. Sorry for the delayed response

COPILOTO Wow -- this browser is fast! Keep up the good work, it shows incredible promise. Although I like Shiira very much, it still suffers from some issues that truly annoy me. I will be using Demeter from now on. (Version 1.2.2)

COPILOTO It is just unbelievable that with each release, Adobe is unable to improve on Flash. Yes, it is still that slow and weird plug-in. Maybe I'm too naïve to expect actual performance improvements with new versions... (Version 9.0.47)

ENCRO Hold tight, its not too far down the track. I'm using a beta (9.0r60) and I can tell you things are just about to get really really good for flash on the Mac. This version includes suppport for hardware acceleration. If you feel like jumping on the cutting edge bandwagon head to: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer9/ Keep in mind its still beta so you may experience crashes and to report any issue s to Adobe. Alarm Clock | Jul 10 2007 |
COPILOTO I will join the group of very satisfied users of this app and throw in my 2 cents. This is an awesome app: it is simple, reliable, and unobtrusive. I use it all the time, not only the alarm, but the timer. Previous to that, I was using Minuteur as a timer, but Minuteur is a whopping 24MG program for such a simple function. Thank you for the app and for the time you dedicate to it. (Version 2.4.5)

COPILOTO It seems PDFView is not being developed anymore, which is a pity. But you can tweak the defaults on Skim to open pdfs just like PDFView did. (Version 0.5)

Sogudi | Jun 23 2007 |
COPILOTO I think that his comment makes sense because it is informative. It took me a long time (and several installs-reinstalls later) to figure out why Safari 3's address bar and search bar were not working. It was because of Sogudi (which, incidentally, is a wonderful plug-in). (Version 0.4.6)

COPILOTO Shimo 1.0 was working perfectly for me. When I installed this new version, it asks me for several confirmations (that I don't know) in order to connect. I don't really know what to do, since I used it because of its simplicity. (Version 1.0.1)

COPILOTO This is a wonderful program. It gets a simple idea right and there is nothing better than tagging your files. This last version is crashing sometimes when I try to tag many files at once, but nothing major. Highly recommended. (Version 0.3)

ROBERT If you're on a CRT, possibly. On an LCD or flat screen, it depends on the particular technology...it can actually consume more energy. (Version 1.0.3)

Nocturne | May 15 2007 |
AHKNIGHT It does not use or save any energy on any display type. The CRT still has to charge the screen to show black and any given LCD's primary energy suck is the backlight, which colors do not change, but brightness does. (Version 1.0.3)

Monocle | Apr 27 2007 |
COPILOTO This is an incredible piece of software -- it is extremely useful! It doesn't get in the way and you can add all the search engines you want. The killer feature for me is the ability to use it completely from the keyboard, including changing search engines. Gets a solid A+. (Version 1.1b1)

Google Desktop | Apr 25 2007 |
COPILOTO It seems people get upset because their computers get sluggish while GDesktop indexes their files for some time; they have no patience and then trash it. Some people are bashing GDesktop without even trying it! I don't understand why having the option of using GDesktop is bad -- these apps are tools for the job: if they work for you, great. If they don't, uninstall them and move on. I've been using GDesktop since it was released and I find it a joy -- in fact, it became indispensable. It is NOT a replacement to Quicksilver (I still use it and love it), but it is much better and faster than Spotlight. The snippets help a lot when searching for files, as well as being able to search my web history and gmail. It is unobtrusive and the shortcut works perfectly. I hope that in future versions, Google integrates GDesktop with its other apps such as Docs, GCalendar, and maybe Reader. Thank you for the app! (Version 1.0.0.155)

SAM RAE I had no problem with the initial indexing process. If it takes two hours to index at the start, fine—I can go have lunch while it's happening. What gets me down is the indexing after you've been using it a while: it happens right in the middle of working! Google Desktop doesn't wait for a pause in activity like the Windows version—it just starts cranking away at any old time. My iBook has been grinding to a halt too frequently recently because of GD indexing in the background. Google really need to make it index only at idle periods. I love it for its fast searches and the ability to search my Gmail, but the performance hit is almost unbearable. At least you should be able to pause indexing like on the Windows version. VoodooPad Lite | Mar 16 2007 |
COPILOTO VoodooPad is just incredible! I've been using this Lite Version for a while and I wish I could buy the full version -- I'm a poor grad student, so... =( I use it mainly as a journal for personal notes and random thoughts. I love the free form that VP allows, never trying to impose a certain way to its user. It is a "zen" application, it adapts to you. I strongly recommend it. (Version 3.1.4)

Caffeine | Feb 19 2007 |
COPILOTO I have been using Jiggler for the same actions, but I believe Caffeine is better: it has an unobtrusive icon in the menu bar and there is nothing to configure (unlike Jiggler). You just click on it when you want to activate and de-activate it. Excellent. (Version 1.0)

PDFView | Nov 5 2006 |
COPILOTO This is the app I have been waiting for a long time. Adobe Reader is extremely slow and Preview never showed pdfs the way I wanted. PDFView is now my default pdf viewer. I like it very much. (Version 0.11.2)
