COCOATECH  If you have Dropbox installed, its contextual menu interferes with Path Finder 5.5.5. The Dropbox teams should have a fix out soon.

COCOATECH  If you're referring to the visual noise that occasionally appears around icons, we're sorry that it's taking us so long to fix. We've so far been unable to reproduce the issue on a half dozen test Macs, but once we find a reproducible case we should be able to fix it rather quickly.

COCOATECH  Garbled icons are unfortunately due to an OS bug - we're trying to find a workaround. The 5.5 update fixed an issue where icons would draw at the incorrect size.

COCOATECH  Most issues were related to Snow Leopard's heightened security. It had broken a number of core Path Finder features, so we were releasing a new build after successfully repairing each individual feature.

We've officially released Path Finder 5.5 for Snow Leopard, which you can get by running Check for Updates in Path Finder 5.1.5. We've had to branch Path Finder into separate Leopard and Snow Leopard builds, so SL's version number will begin at 5.5 while Leopard will continue from 5.1.5.

COCOATECH  Do you have a GeForce 7300 GT graphics card? If so, this is likely a bug with the drivers on Snow Leopard and Apple is working on a fix.

COCOATECH  It's all water under the bridge since Snow Leopard is officially out now. Please let us know if Path Finder 5.1.5's search is still problematic. Also, make certain that you're running the newest build: select Path Finder > Check for Updates from the menu bar. We temporarily have different builds for Leopard and Snow Leopard, so unknowingly using the Leopard version on SL may be an issue.

COCOATECH  We'd really appreciate if you could post your experience on our support forum:

http://forum.cocoatech.com/

If you're willing to do some troubleshooting, we'll likely have you run a special debug build of Path Finder and take a sample when it's frozen - this will help us determine the source of the problem.

COCOATECH  I'll address a few of these issues:

"pathfinder has to be force-quitted about every two hours and restarted because it becomes unresponsive"

You're welcome to post to our support forum and we'll gladly help you try to fix this. A few Path Finder users have reported a similar issue -- we haven't been able to reproduce the problem on our test Macs, so we're relying upon specific user reports to track down the cause.

http://forum.cocoatech.com/

"Copying and installing files/ applications seems more sluggish under pathfinder as well even though the app claims to be 64 bit--more advanced than 'leopard.'"

Path Finder uses OS X's built-in file copy API, so file copying is demonstrably slower than the Finder I'm uncertain what might be causing it. We'll look into it. "64 bit" is unfortunately not a panacea -- a 64 bit app would likely copy files at the same speed as a 32 bit app.

That said, we unexpectedly had to release Path Finder 5.1.5 for Snow Leopard as a 32 bit app since a few of Path Finder's third party frameworks (primarily StuffIt and MobileMe) weren't ready for Snow Leopard's early release. Once these frameworks are available (or we find alternatives to them), 64 bit Path Finder will be ready to go.

"I made my remarks because I am quite angry to have wasted not a small amount of money on this app"

We offer a fully functional 30 day trial period. The trial counts days of use rather than full calendar days, so if you launch Path Finder once and then come back to it a month later you will still have 29 more days to test it out. We implore everyone to use this trial before buying.
