CLAKES  Problem with the Spotlight, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Date&Time (well, I don't care much about this last since I use MenuCalendarClock but..) menubar icons disappearing persists on my latest generation MBP running even after repairing permissions and reverting the terminal commands I used to remove the Spotlight icon:

$ cd /System/Library/CoreServices/

$ sudo mv Search.bundle/ Search2.bundle/

reverted using:

$ cd /System/Library/CoreServices/

$ sudo mv Search2.bundle/ Search.bundle/

Link to the tip I followed:

http://superuser.com/questions/32593/remove-spotlight-icon-from-the-menu-bar

Functionality is preserved at least, but hey... I need those familiar icons up there. =\

Bonjour Mounter
Sep 2 2009

CLAKES  Thanks a lot for the reminder Sandro!

My stupid bad mistake. "root" was quite obviosly the mount point: the 99% work on a Mac made me think it was "/". =/

As a side note: I'm using Bonjour Mounter for wirelessly syncing documents to my iPhone for road use with iStorage. ChronoSync's scheduler handles the job of automatically starting the sync-up as soon as my jailbroken iPhone mounts as a Bonjour network drive via Netatalk.

From this point of view, an option to "Mount All at Startup" (a delay would be necessary I guess) would be the most welcome added feature/option in BM's preferences, so that the phone sync-up would start as soon as I log in or start my Mac up without even a mouse-click! =)

You'd be my hero then, and would donate with the utmost pleasure (although, well, guess I will soon anyways if I keep on with this use of mine).

Love,

Francesco

MiniMail

CLAKES  Haven't had serious issues with MiniMail so far, apart from an occasional with the full pop-up window suddendly shrinking to a hardly-enlargeable microwindow.

All in all, it's hot software, and I deeply love it.

Snow Leopard support is in progress according to the forums: c'mon guys!

CLAKES  Desperate (useless?) call to the devs:

_Please_ ... I love this app. I can't think of my Mac without it.

Don't give this one up. It's worth it, for me and a lot of other people, including the ones who haven't even got to know about LiteSwitch X.

Bonjour Mounter
Aug 2 2009

CLAKES  Hm.. It doesn't seem to work with Gizzie, my 3.0 jailbroken iPhone 3GS sporting Netatalk.

Pretty weird since all other file browsers show the volume just fine.

Here's the console output:

2009-08-02 11:20:15.923 Bonjour Mounter[350:2f03] Wait Over for for :Host:Gizzie Mount:/

2009-08-02 11:20:15.932 Bonjour Mounter[350:2f03] mount failed for server afp://Gizzie:548//, error == -36

2009-08-02 11:20:29.980 Bonjour Mounter[350:2f03] mount failed for server afp://10.0.1.3:548//, error == -43

2009-08-02 11:20:29.981 Bonjour Mounter[350:2f03] Mount Operation Finished for :Host:Gizzie Mount:/

Any help appreciated.

Bonjour Mounter
Aug 2 2009

SANDRO NOEL  Error -43 stands for "File or directory not found; incomplete pathname."

"/" is not a network share point name.

if you use finder and connect to your phone, folders should appear.

use the name of one of the folders in the add window's share point text box.

NetNewsWire
Jul 31 2009

CLAKES  Ok, ads are annoying, I agree.

And yes, clippings and feeds may get messed up

BUT consider

- it's _beta_ software

- it's _free_

- they _will_ allow people to get rid of ads (I got rid of them by simply shrinking the subscription list to a few pixels, I don't really need to look at it)

- social bookmarking integration

- integrated web browser

- _syncing_, my friends! Oh, syncing!

All in all, the most solid reader around

...

This said, you may stick to the non-beta version up until the end of August, but really, after giving further looks at the various Vienna (basically a feature-orphaned NNW), NewsFire (yukie) Shrook (eeek) etc... I do not consider the switch as dramatic as I used to when I first came to know about it.

Long live NNW.

Oh and long live developers willing to _seriously_ rival its leadership! =)

Much of a welcome update. I was honestly a little disappointed by the non-transparent-as-should-be lists.

And the update from within the application is working again. Thank you.

LazyMouse

CLAKES  Happy buyer here.

It really saves some time when you come to deal with dialogue boxes.

Sadly enough, Windows beats Mac OS on this, offering the feature for free, built into mouse preferences, and you do can opt on it. Switching to Mac some 5 years ago, I was really surprised that Mac OS didn't natively offer such an opportunity as I expected from the best operating system on earth.

I wouldn't ever say that it has a steep learning curve, although you do need some time to get used to this behavior.

A fairly more annoying "nerves issue" I experience was striking the wrong button compulsively when in a hurry. =)

Actually, as I turned to be a keyboard shortcuts freak I must say that using esc, return, enter, spacebar, tab and cmd+D combinations on dialog boxes makes you even more efficient. But that's another story, and anyway I have to use the mouse when browsing the internet...

The new "Return cursor to original location after a click" feature added in version 2 is much welcome, squashing the only annoyance one could have catching the grip of the cursor back after the choice.

The gradient added in 2.0.1 makes a cute icon even nicer.

Works for me.

CLAKES  Ok, so I'm keeping myself from being enthusiast.

As already said, this is one more than promising initial release plus surprisingly stable and affordable.

Love the GUI (my OS is skinned in black), loved the way it starts reproduction in a flash (immediately replaced Taply for the purpose to me), and what to say about the effects? Simply brilliant! And I feel the export feature is going to be improved as well.

Add windows position remembering

and a some (hot?)keyboard shortcuts and you're done guys.

Intercepted my dreams: keep the great job up and running!

CLAKES  as a keyboard maniac, i was hoping (just like ingvo below) that this app would fill the lack of the only thing i admittedly envy in standard windows keyboards: that "menu key" which allows you to invoke contextual menu on the selected items.

if the guy(s) here at abracode integrate this into this application, or any other developers, they'll be my heroes. please,

but hey, this one is a nice step forward, as well as a good idea...

PLAIDVESTSOFTWARE  Thanks for your feedback. MyMenuDate offers a different experience than other menu apps. MyMenuDate offers a fully customizable date and time display within the menubar so that you can pick the format you want to see.

This allows a quick-glance experience instead of the more application-based MenuCalendarClock app.

We've kept the price low to reflect the fact that MyMenuDate is focused on a single task - to provide the most flexible menu date clock/calendar display for the Mac including background/foreground color selection, font selection, and font size.

CLAKES  thanks for the reply. i wanted to mail them up too about the fact, but didn't in the end exactly because i had a clue myself there was a reason behind that behaviour. anyway, i hope the reason is merely technically(?). otherwise the app, which after some days of trial i think i'm going to purchase by the way, could not fully claim it's dock-like or even dock-replacement attitude, being badges one of the most useful features in the dock itself (i can live without the custom finder icon..). i *always* keep it hidden, and will continue to do so, although "alt+cmd+D" isn't that far away... =)

rather funny to use and deservedly (compared to other products) free. which is all good.

anyway, for the professional deejays it's always traktor dj studio or nothing, to me. or dj-1800, as a cheaper alternative, if you feel it's satisfactory.

nice effort though.

CLAKES  yes, it wipes the default app switcher out in terms of features and options, and

yes, it's a handy lovely piece of software so

after a few minutes of trial i was >this< close to hit the "register" button *but*

...then i've noticed... where's my customized finder icon? where're mail and newsmac pro badges? and where the status-changing and warning icon in adium?

saved the precious money until that is fixed...

CLAKES  i ended up in buying it. the idea itself alone is definitely worth 5$, which is a chinch.

it does have room for improvement though: the bar shouldn't show up when applications start as it modifies top windows' positioning.

an option "show in front/in the background", if technically possible, would be great too.
