CHMORLEY  I'm certainly not bashing for no reason. I am unhappy about dishonest business practice. This is not childish. I am a businessman. If I changed my rate of service on a client without adequately informing them, I would earn their scorn. That is what has happened here.

My needs are simple and adequately covered by the free app. They will also be covered by a paid app. I will pay another developer. This one will not get a penny from me. Ever.

CHMORLEY  I have been a fan of Saft for some time now, having paid for it twice. I will not pay a third time for a minor update. I understand the developer did new work to get this to function with Snow Leopard. New users of the product may find it worth the fee. I, however, will not pay for an update that provides functionality delivered elsewhere for free.

I am looking forward to getting away from the cumbersome upgrade process, as well.

CHMORLEY  Wow. I have been a fan of this software for years--hacking it to work when it didn't, lamenting its disappearance when it went away, and excitedly welcoming its return when its developer promised to keep a free version.

Then I get a notification that an update is available. It updates me to the *paid* version of the app. That's sneaky. It's deceptive. It's bad business practice.

If the developer wants to discontinue the free version, so be it. But don't pull the sneaky update thing.

Frankly, the product is no better than ten others out there. My needs were minimal, so I liked the free version of this. I will certainly never purchase a product from this developer. Once you see someone is dishonest in their practices, the business relationship is soured.

CHMORLEY  I have had the same issue. I have not found a fix for it. Apple discussion forums indicate this problem is widespread.

CHMORLEY  I am partial to Poisoned. It has been stable, and can access Gnutella, FastTrack, and other networks. Of course, I have mostly given up these networks and have largely switched to BitTorrent (and Xtorrent), so my opinion is less current than it used to be.
