CHLOE  I have the same problem too with the 64-bit version of VLC 1.0rc4. It crashes every time when I try to quit the app. The 32-bit version works perfectly fine, though.

AJoiner
Jun 18 2009

CHLOE  Excuse me, what are you talking about? I think you didn't understand the real purpose of this program.

It wasn't intended to be used as a video-joining tool, nor does it even come close to that (since you mentioned VisualHub and D-Vision, which are video-related apps). Instead, it was specifically meant to be used to join/concatenate smaller pieces of files which have the extensions .001, .002, .003, .004 and so on) and output a single, larger file (this is explicitly stated in the AJoiner's description here at Macupdate).

These files can be in any format, as long as they use Mastersplitter's naming convention (.001 - .999)

Giving this program such a low rating when you obviously didn't have a proper understanding of its purpose just seems unfair, IMHO.

CHLOE  You don't have to create an eSnips account in order to be able to download this tool. I've been able to download it without creating one.

BTW, the URL of the author's website is www.rickyprograms.com

CHLOE  I did purchased QuickTime Pro some time ago, but never realized that such a feature exists. Thanks for pointing this out. It's very useful.

Amazon Album Art
May 9 2009

CHLOE  It still works perfectly for me with iTunes 8.1.1

You only need to make sure that iTunes is open and a track/song that you want to find album cover art image for is selected in iTunes, before activating the widget.

It's fast, free and non-obstrusive.

JewelCase
Apr 27 2009

CHLOE  There is a newer version (v2.1.1 as of this writing) of JewelCase available for download on the author's website: www.opticalalchemy.com

This is the release notes for version 2.1.1 according to the website:

- iTunes 8.1 Compatible

- Intel Mac Support

- Improved Song Lyrics

- Random Layouts & Fonts

So, maybe you could give it another try, as it appears to be compatible with the current version of iTunes.

CHLOE  The current version, 1.2.1 (as of this writing) has the option to hide the 'Get for iPhone and iPod Touch!' unobtrusive text ad. Just flip the widget over by clicking on the 'i' on the bottom-right hand corner of the widget. You can then adjust the setting in the preferences accordingly by unchecking the appropriate checkbox.

StuffIt Expander 2010
Mar 30 2009

CHLOE  As far I know, the built-in Archive Utility in Leopard doesn't (yet) handle password-protected zip archives created by WinZip or similar programs on Windows. It just puts up an error dialog with an error code stating that the file is either corrupted or permission not permitted (correct me if i'm wrong, you can test it for yourself). Nevertheless, it still handles normal and non-passworded archives flawlessly.

For those rare times when my friend on Windows decided to send me some private and/or confidential files packaged in a .zip archive, the only possible way to expand it that I could think of is to fire up Stuffit Expander and open the archive in question within SD.

Therefore, this tool really come in handy when I encountered the kind of files mentioned (FYI, I primarily use SD for zip files, haven't had a need to open/expand .sit or .sitx files since back in the years when Panther was first released (I'm currently using 10.5.6).

CHLOE  It *does* updates my previously installed Perian.component file in Library/Quicktime as well as the preference pane to the latest version.

No problem here. And I'm using OS X 10.4.11 too.

CHLOE  Very cool, stable, not overbloated and pretty FAST on a broadband connection! Although it doesn't packed with lots of other nifty features/add-ons like any other 'lyric-featching' widget (like Sing the iTune! and PearLyrics), it's seems enough and satisfactory for me.
