CHIN  Does anybody know, what exactly the difference is to the built-in screen-sharing feature of Mac OS/X?

Thanks in advance ...

CHIN  @MISHA

I am really happy to hear this! I do not know, how to deal with Safari without Glims' help! So I did not even dare to upgrade Safari on my second Tiger installation yet!

Glims

CHIN  Fine piece of software ... I use it daily.

Unfortunately there might be a problem with Safari 4.0.3 under MacOS/X 10.4.11 for Intel (with installed SecUpd2009-003). Safari will crash right at startup. If I remove the folder /Library/InputManagers/Glims then Safari will startup and work properly.

However, this problem doesn't seem to occur if running Safari 4.0.3 under MacOS/X 10.5.8 ...

MISHA  You'll be happy to hear the Glims team is aware of the issue and a fix should be coming very very soon :)

DOOBIEXX  It's not just tiger, leopard has the same problems as I am dealing with them now. Yeah, using safari without Glims is a real pain... For a free app the folks at machangout are on top of issues. Great stuff.

DisplayLink USB Graphics Driver
Jul 21 2009

CHIN  I bought a nice USB to DVI adapter device just yesterday. With this driver it works flawlessly although it use some more CPU cycles on my Mac Mini Intel with Tiger 10.4.11.

But this seem to be the only one reliable solution I know to get two monitors connected to my Mac Mini, with each on having a resolution of 1280x1024.

My previous solution was to use the DualHead2Go device, but that can only provide 2 times 1024x768 due to the limited graphic card builtin my Mini.

So after all, there is a problem, that solution solve for me :-)

**...

CHIN  The application is easy to use and the GUI is appealing. It also work at advertised. But unfortunately the developer didn't say, that his application did not hide the files and folders very securely.

All what it does is to create a folder named .SYS_INDEX which is hidden, as it begins with a '.'. But it is readily visible via corr. Finder settings or with Terminal.app via a 'ls -a' command.

Then it reverse the name of the file or folder to hide. A 'Archive.txt' will be renamed to 'evihcrA.txt' and put into said folder .'SYS_INDEX'.

That's it! This is not very secure and there are a lot of applications that give you the same level of "security" as this app!

So after all, this app is not for me, but your mileage may vary ...

CHIN  In difference to an encrypted image, Cryptomfs would encrypt every file for itself. You will not have all files within a single encrypted image file. This have advantages for e.g. backup purposes.

CHIN  @MUSUBANA, as you own a Mac, you do not need a CJK input device. Your keyboard will do as well. Simply activate the ITABC Input Method in the System Settings, Localisation or Country Settings (I do not know exactly the wording as I am using german localisation). If you enable to show the keyboad menu within the menu bar, you may select the chinese flag and then you can simply input the romanized form that program produce (but without the accents) and you get a selection of all those chinese characters that will match the sound you wrote. Select the one you mean and you are set. :-)

For instance: typing hanyu will produce 汉语 following that method.

Is the Mac not a nice toy? :-)
