Type: CommentsDate: 29 Feb 2008 20:56I've done some testing of this and so far it looks good - much more logical than Apache. I still prefer Abyss web server at this point, but I strongly recommend that you check this out.
Apache really needs some strong competition as it can be a bloated pain in the butt. LiteSpeed and Abyss can do better than Apache for most needs.

Type: ReviewDate: 17 Feb 2008 03:49I had been meaning to try this for years. Wish I hadn't waited as Path Finder is fantastic and helps to counter a lot of the profound stupidity of Apple. It is great for those who put productivity and organization before eye candy.
After years of frustration with Apple forgetting about HI (human interface) guidelines, even though they wrote the book, and continually removing great features in each iteration of OS X I find that Path Finder a great substitute for the Finder even in Leopard (except for access to Screen Sharing). With OS X, we lost the Apple Menu, the great find feature in 10.3.x was replaced with the utterly atrocious Spotlight, labeling in the Finder made for visual confusion, popup folders disappeared, Finder prefs were limited and there are limited global settings and on and on and on and on.
Path Finder brings back much of what was lost, albeit in a different form and in some cases greatly improves on our lost features. In just on inexpensive program you get improved menus, GREATLY IMPROVED FIND FILE, tabbed windows, improved info and permission and preview, etc.
It is really amazing how many features this program has and often times documents such as images, PDF's, and text files will open in Path Finder rather than having to open another program. The programmer(s) appear to be very logical and have thought of nearly everything.
I could suggest a few great features, and small flow changes, and some visual polish could enhance the feel of the program, but overall Path Finder is one of the very few programs that deserves rave reviews.
If you like to be very organized and productive in the way that you choose rather than being forced into Steve Jobs's pretty but pain in the ass paridigms, get Path Finder. Path Finder gives you freedom.

Type: ReviewDate: 22 Jan 2008 01:07Apache is one of those things like Windows, it's popular, but not because it is great. It has many idiotic flaws and the whole server will go down for incredibly stupid reasons that would be analogous to a car not starting because a valve cap is off.
I have been migrating my servers to Litespeed and Abyss. Both are faster, MUCH easier to configure, utterly stable, have easily accessible features, and are much more tolerant to configuration errors (a very minor error will not take the entire server offline. They have free versions and the little bit that they cost for most other versions is well worth the lack of headaches.

Type: ReviewDate: 7 Jan 2008 00:50If you think that being forced to install things via command lines in Terminal is primitive and idiotic and should have been abandoned in 80's, then you'll like Navicat. It is light years better and easier than using WebMin.
The interface still needs works, to improve the flow and ergonomics (HI considerations seem to have been forgotten about by most including Apple about a decade ago.), but this is a very useful and rather featured tool.
And, so what if you have to pay. Good work deserves compensation. Besides if you use this for business you will have done dozens of things with this before you have even figured out how to install , access, and use WebMin. Additionally, using an application for direct access always blows away any browser access in almost every way shape and form, especially speed, convenience and features.
Use your brain, use open source, if it is good, but too much open source stuff will waste years of a professional's life. If you want to get work done, rather than blindly hold on to open source, command line installs, and browser just because it is free, by all means, get Navicat.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Nov 2007 16:48Huh? Where did I mention the frequency of updates?
The complaints had to to with not being notified and then once you find out about the updates BY ACCIDENT you have to wait and wait to get something you made need NOW while brand new customers do not have to wait at all.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 Nov 2007 02:31Very useful idea that should have been part of he OS. It's hard to believe that we have not been using voice notes for years.
The design needs lots of help both in function and looks. The interface really sucks, with too many windows, it is like each window was designed by a different person and the main window is WAY too big with useless graphics and HUGE buttons. It's inconsistent in style and has big functional hole. Too bad as this could have been good.
Why is there no window/view that lists all the recordings in one quick view?

Type: CommentsDate: 10 Oct 2007 00:59I respect the simple approach. Much more powerful than it appears. Good, not great. Like to see better searching and selecting.

Type: CommentsDate: 9 Oct 2007 05:19Nice that it is putting multiple databases in one program rather than having separate ones for each type of item such as books, movies, etc. Strange that it doesn't have a general household inventory by default. Would be nice to have some different field choices.

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Oct 2007 00:47As a hand coder who would love to use a more automated device RapidWeaver is part way there. It produces better code than most and uses CSS better than usual although it still requires cleanup.

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Oct 2007 13:08Wow. It is hard to believe that anyone could like this program. It looks nice, but it adds an extra layer of difficulty to everything.
You end up losing most familiar commands such as command-d, command-delete, command-up/down arrow and on and on. It is incredibly awkward to navigate from disk to disk as multiple disks/partitions are not normally shown.
If you try to copy 100 items to another folder and there is a problem, you have to click on a button in an error dialog 100 times!!!!! Once for each file. Unbelievable.

Type: CommentsDate: 26 Sep 2007 13:01Best product - jaw droppingly stupid company policies - the very worst.
It is beyond belief that a company that makes such an utterly essential product can be the very WORST in the way they treat their existing customers. I have been a customer for over a dozen years yet have never been notified of an upgrade. They would have doubled their money from me and my clients had they just told us of the new products in a timely manner.
Then, when you desperately need it in the middle of the night and find out that your current version doesn't work right, Alsoft makes you wait weeks!!!!!!!
I use Kensington as an example of nearly perfect customer service and Alsoft as the worst.

Type: CommentsDate: 26 Sep 2007 02:44This works well for those quick notes that you don't need to keep. The menu access and the drawing are the best features.

Type: CommentsDate: 25 Sep 2007 00:54Nice. Very simple and fast. This should be part of the Finder. Also has very basic file renaming capabilities.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Sep 2007 00:14Nice features, such as batch rename, droplets, and much better workings than the idiotic Spotlight. All of this should have been part of the Finder.

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Sep 2007 04:33Spotlight is one of the worst downgrades that Apple has ever done. Anything that brings back features of the great Find process in OS X 10.3 is welcome.
Now if we can just get Apple to realize that change and progress are not synonyms and get them to stop taking away features.

Type: CommentsDate: 14 Sep 2007 16:10I much prefer long windows like this that evenly takes up space on screen. It is much easier to keep windows organized and works well for those of us with lots of vertical real estate as on a vertically oriented monitor.

Type: CommentsDate: 10 Sep 2007 01:35This is good software and better than most programs of this genre, but I would like something with a bit more finesse and choices. Quite frankly,I am very frustrated that most software is harder and often does less than what we had 15 years ago - CricketGraph being one example.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Aug 2007 01:43Had the download problem, too. Don't like that you have to give lots of info to take a look. This may be good IF you work with these particular sites (which I don't recommend if you actually want to make a living at stock). It is an okay idea, but the execution, such as using Java and the overall feel needs some work. This has multiple dialogs for processes where it could have just one window. There are better ways to work with Metadata, such as the software, MetaMachine.

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Aug 2007 22:23It is hard to believe that it has taken so many years to begin to get back so much of the great software that used to be available 20 years ago for Macintosh. This is a beginning. Now if someone can just do SuperPaint and CricketGraph again. Sigh.

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Aug 2007 00:15The question I have is since it can remove passwords, does it essentially bypass it own protection? In other words can people remove the passwords put in with PDFKey Pro?

Type: CommentsDate: 6 Aug 2007 01:48Has some nice features and a broad range of features, BUT the overabundance of palettes and lack of integration of the palettes makes this an utter organizational mess.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Jul 2007 09:49This looks very promising, especially after watching the Flash demo on the developer's website.
![]()
Type: CommentsDate: 2 Jul 2007 06:25The unusual features of this app are great. The major problem is that the basic and normal features often are poorly done and don't work as most Apple apps. For example, browsing in a PDF is missing the first and last page navigation buttons! This could be great be great if the developers worked on the basics, not just the fancy stuff.

Type: CommentsDate: 31 May 2007 00:21Finally! There are many programs to store documents and many to store financial data. This is the first I've seen that does both.
