CASTLE ROSE @LIVINGS124: Either you missed my point or you're a smart azz. Mac OS X 10.4.x 'Tiger' was released on April 29, 2005, not so long ago. Further more, the PowerBook G4 I use for my business is not supported by Mac OS 10.6.0 'Snow Leopard'. All of my Adobe products, Quark, FTP, browsers, fonts, utilities, widgets, drivers, communication programs, ect. work great as is. I have not found a compelling reason to even update to Leopard just to get some more bells and whistles I don't need. As a small business owner i have to weigh the costs and benefits of each expense. Sadly I often I find business tend to forget the SERVICE in their customer service. Of course Growl is freeware/domationware and I greatly appreciate the work they do. I just hope if there are any bugs or security issues with the Tiger version they will continue to be patched. I could go on but i hope my point is clear now. -Thanks. (Version 1.2)

LIVINGS124 Supporting the OS for 4.5 years seems more than enough to me. 1.1 still works fine. Should they stop adding more advanced new features so that your old system that does not support this functionality can have a couple of not as interesting new abilities? If you do not want to upgrade your OS for new bells and whistles, then don't complain you can't update your open source software for more bells and whistles. (Version 1.2)

Growl | Nov 10 2009 |
CHRISTOPHER FORSYTHE To be frank, we have 3 developers and 1 project manager working on Growl. 1 of those is a full time student. The other is a full time developer at a prestigious mac shop. The last is a full time doctor. So we have one guy who can work on Growl for maybe 5 hours a month (doctor). Another guy who can work on Growl 10 hours a week (dev) , and the last guy can do the same (student). I can work on Growl roughly 10 hours a week as well (project manager). When considering what we could and could not support, based on the fact that the Growl project is entirely volunteer supported, we had to make judgement calls. 10.4 was released over 4 years ago. No new hardware supports it. Very few of us have a box to test on, and it makes the testing process go much longer. The testing process for 1.1 itself got extended another month due to 10.4. So just on a testing basis alone did we think about dropping 10.4. Then you have to consider maintenance of code. There is a large amount of code that we were able to remove and stop maintaining once we dropped 10.4. The ability to do this made the codebase smaller, and easier to read. Finally, it is hard to work with old API's. It is unreasonable to expect unpaid volunteers to work on something they do not want to work on. Period. I've forced people to do that before when I worked as the Project Manager of Adium. We needed Group Chat support, and I basically told one guy to do it or else. He did it, then he quit the project. People stop working on things if they are forced to do something they don't want to do. Let me put it another way. Supporting 10.4 is like supporting ie 6. You can do it, but why? For a group of people with barely a lot of time, it's not worth doing it. I hope this explanation helps. By the way, livings works on another mac app. Saying "it's not that old!" is not a good argument for either of us. We both have to make judgement calls based on cold hard fact and not emotion. I simply don't have the resources to support 10.4 at the prefpane and extras level, and I'm sure the argument to livings doesn't really shine through compared to resources either. Open source projects are supposed to be fun. Threads like this make it not fun. Come up with a better argument for 10.4 support that addresses all my points and more and we'd maybe rethink it, but currently 10.4 support for the prefpane and extras is gone and won't be returning. I hope this helps you understand our reasoning.

Microsoft Office 2008 | Apr 17 2009 |
CASTLE ROSE Why do you make updating so difficult? Nearly all OS X updaters will search for the application on the local drives. Why don't you make the updater universal and independent of the language installed? The updater should locate the valid application, determine it's language, and then download the appropriate update. Sounds simple, no? Yes, we all know Microsoft isn't known for user friendliness but come on, you really need to move into the 21st century. (Version 12.1.7)

SUPERTHEMAN Vuze is clunky, it has a stand-alone installer, it is Java (and very un-Mac-like) and it is becoming a social networking tool, which I have no desire in using. Transmission has no installer hiding funky files on my Mac. It is lean, mean and very Mac-like. Vuze pales in comparison. Vuze used to be a good program, but has strayed far from what it used to be. A native Mac program (written in code FOR the Mac, and not a stand-alone Java app) like Transmission completely trumps Vuze now. (Version 1.40b1)

The problems with video chat freezing are still there but that's most-likely a problem with the Y! servers. I don't have any memory issues on my old PB G4. Even with a video chat it varies between 15% and 25% CPU. That's not bad. Maybe Intel code is different. Barcode Producer | Feb 16 2008 |
CASTLE ROSE This is a great little program to create professional barcodes. The reason it does not get five stars is because it's so very expensive for a one trick pony. I was able to get my client to pay for it but I personally wouldn't have. There are other limited free barcode programs and you can make them yourself for free with the correct font. However these alternatives are not as fast, flexible and easy as BP. I would value this at about $75. I would also be willing to bet 2 to 3 times as many people would pay for it at that price as well. (Version 4.7)

CASTLE ROSE Don't be fooled, Azureus is one slick and pretty app. So far it's the fastest torrent downloader I have tried. A month ago I knew nothing about p2p, torrents, trackers and seeders. I decided to give it a try. After trying Transmission, Xtorrent, Acquisition,Tomato Torrent, and FrostWire, I'm sticking with Azureus. Yeah, the others 'simple' more or less. But Azureus can be simple or complex if you chose. Honestly, the other reviewers are just whining about having options. It has 3 user proficiencies (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced). If you want simple just select 'Configuration Wizard...' in the Azureus menu and in 4 simple steps you got it. 1. Select you language. 2. Select your User Proficiency. 3. Select the speed of your internet connection. 4. Select a port. It tries 11342 by default but even if it is blocked Azeureus will automatically use an open one! So don't worry about it. Then your all set. Get you torrent, open it and watch it download. If you want to learn something click on the advance tab and look around. I also spent a little time reading about this stuff on Wikipedia. It's not rocket science boys. Don't expect everything to be spoon-fed to you in 10 seconds or the girls will take things over. Options are a good thing. (Version 3.0.3.4)

BRUCE_Y Still runs on Tiger. Dev says tiger versions will be supported till 4qtr 2008. But now improvement focus will be leopard. So some new added features will not work on Tiger - since they need the Leopard OS to work. Note that other Mac maintenance and UI tweaking tools also have a similar arrangement in that some feature 'buttons' or tweaks only work on specific OS X system versions. Have Mac Pilot user interface 'gray out' or otherwise indicate leopard items that do not work in Tiger. Even better, have it read the user's OS version, so these items automatically work, or don't, as appropraiate. This to avoid confusion of those folks who may think that by running new MacPilot, they can turn on leopard features inside of Tiger. :D (Version 2.4)

CASTLE ROSE Yes, it is slow. It depends on how large your hard drive is and how much free space there is on it. The less free space the longer it will take. Also firewire is faster than USB 2.0. Tip: I would also have it optimize only one disk at a time. Good luck (Version 4.5.2)

CASTLE ROSE aMSN 0.97RC1 is now available, released May 22, 2007 @ 21:11:46. It cleared up the problems I was having with my webcam on MAC OS X. If you were having cam problems with 0.96 then DL 0.97RC1. Thanks, aMSN Team. :D (Version 0.96)
