Recover PDF Password | Apr 15 2009 |
BIG77 Basically, this is a brute-force cracker with some useful options, such as the ability to suggest characters. But it's not multi-engine aware, so expect this to take a LONG time. Also seems to spend quite a bit of resource updating the not-too-useful progress indicator -- resources better spent to improve speed. As a test, I'm running over 5 days now cracking a 9 character password and it looks like it has about 2 weeks left to run. (Mac Pro 3Ghz, 8 core). (Version 2.0.0.75)

NTFS for Mac | Feb 10 2009 |
BIG77 > It would be handy to know which version of MacFuse and NTFS-3G is used in this package There's a developers folder in the downloaded image which seems to talk about that stuff. It also includes the packages. (Version 1.0)

iPaste | Nov 27 2007 |
BIG77 iPaste handles predefined clipping sets. lots of them, unobtrusively. iClip does that too, plus lets you deal with clipboard history, so in that case, I give the nod to iClip, or I would, if iClip didn't crash so much. So don't count out iPaste -- it's neat and stable. (Version 1.1.3)

File Synchronization | Nov 23 2007 |
BIG77 I think this falls somewhere between good freeware (e.g. synctwofolders) and good commercial applications (e.g. Synchronize!Pro). For many, or even most, the freeware will do fine. For a few, the heavy hitter is needed. For the rest, this looks pretty decent for the price. (Version 1.4.3)

Jaikoz Audio Tagger | Nov 16 2007 |
BIG77 OK, I tried it. A little klutzy, a little slow. But it does work pretty well and the fact that it's cross-platform is a plus for me. (Version 2.0.1)

IPNetMonitorX | Nov 12 2007 |
BIG77 Charging such a high price for this stuff just doesn't make sense to me, since it's all easily available for free. Of course, this is nicely packaged and all in one place, so I agree IPNetMonitorX has a good advantage on that count, but for the occasional use I would give it, it's just not worth the money to me. Perhaps it's worth it to you. (Version 2.1.3)

Feeding Frenzy | Nov 11 2007 |
BIG77 Not a great fan of this one. Mildly amusing for a short while, but rapidly gets repetitive. Might hold the interest of a pre-teen for a little longer. Or might not! (Version 1.0.1)

Mouseposé | Oct 26 2007 |
BIG77 Not mentioned in the description, this can also visualize mouse clicks, even distinguishing between single and double clicks. Now THAT is cool! Until recently the price was $9.95, so the discount seems a bit like vaporware ;-) (Version 2.5.1)

Picnic | Oct 18 2007 |
BIG77 Picnic is used even in some smaller multi-mac commercial establishments... basically, it works very well, funky GUi or not. (Version 1.0.3)

BIG77 I have these. Both work well if you need a simple interface with a limited number of options. No slight intended -- simple can be a good thing! (Version )

BIG77 BitBucket -- according to the descripton, an upgrade to 2.5 is included here, but I find your general comment valuable. (This isn't my review, which appears earlier.) (Version 2.4.13)

BIG77 Superb browser integration and excellent yet nearly effortless security. If passwords drive you crazy, definitely give it a try. The demo lets you store a limited number of sites which will give you adequate opportunity to see how it works. (Version 2.4.13)

Opal | Oct 10 2007 |
BIG77 I like this -- been using TAO but TAO is *way* more complex (and has many more features) thus Opal is oh so much easier to start with! Don't dismiss the others, but for a capable easy to use outliner, this is pretty nice. (Version 1.0.9)

Librarian Pro | Oct 9 2007 |
BIG77 Yes, wondered also if DL was ever going to be updated so I began looking at this as a replacement. Rather than mention the problems with DL, I'll just say Librarian seems cleaner and more responsive to me. And it's actually updated. (Version 1.0.8)

BIG77 Simple enough... can easily do it manually with a little cut and paste, but for $8 it's not worth my time to do it manually. (Version 1.4.2)

BIG77 Doesn't seem to have pitch control, which is important since it has speed control. Wish it worked with foot pedals too, though I imagine some foot pedal somewhere must let you assign a key combo to the pedals. Not that I saw any. (Version 1.21)

DEVONagent | Oct 1 2007 |
BIG77 This is a difficult one to rate. I downloaded it and tried a couple of simple searchs for topics with which I am familiar. Most of the results were old and not at all as pertinient as what a simple google search returned. In particular, the ranking was very poor. But on the other hand, it did find things, albeit mostly useless, that I would not have been likely to stumble across otherwise. That might be a good thing if you have exhausted a simple google search and want to dig deeper. Ins ummary, I see this as a supplement to the major search engines -- definitely not a replacement for them! (Version 2.2)

Nanosaur 2: Hatchling | Sep 29 2007 |
BIG77 I'm amazed Nanosaur 2 still has low enough requirements to work so well on 700Mhz G4... it's well done and not so complex that only a kid can play it :-) (Version 2.0.3)

BIG77 Well, it works with Safari only -- in a manner of speaking. Since you can drag anything to it, I'd say it works with anything but with extra ease when using Safari. (Version 1.9.1)

BIG77 I'm usually not so nice reviewing these things :-) At this price, I think it's a decent product with potential. You can do the same with watched folders and a lot of scripting, but can't that be said of almost anything?! An ok deal of a useful product wprth about $14, IMO! (Version 2.0.2)

FR-PhotoStudio | Sep 25 2007 |
BIG77 Thumbnail rendering was very marginally better than with GraphicConverter but, of course, GraphicConverter does a LOT more. So... unless you have a heck of a lot of thumbnails to process I can't see the advantage of this if you already use something like GC. I tried to get timings, but don't know what is cached and what isn't and difference was too small to make it super obvious, so this is just my subjective comparison. Seems to work fine on a PPC by the way. Overall, it does what it says quite well but may not be needed. (Version 3.0)

ForkLift | Sep 24 2007 |
BIG77 Hmm. Let me see. No undo. Even the Finder has that. And two columns? Well, could be nice, but I wish I could see folders in their context... if you wish to see the contents of a folder, the view of the parent directory is replaced by the view of the folder, so it's difficult to navigate smoothly. But, still worth a look at I thought, until I decided my data are important and noticed our author does not agree. Note this little ditty in the license agreement: THIS SOFTWARE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A COMMERCIAL OPERATING ENVIRONMENT OR WITH IMPORTANT DATA.

BIG77 Trial is very limited, but I'm not crazy about what I see. Maybe if I was on a higher end machine graphics would be better or action smoother, but this is just fair to me. (1Ghz G4, 1.5Gb, 64M video) (Version 8.0)

BIG77 >Is this any different than Houdaspot? As far as I can see, this looks a little more polished than Houdaspot with a few more features (like ability to move files elsewhere or to sort by most used files). I wish I knew about this before I bought Houdaspot, Also, note when this was sold as "MoRu", it was priced at only $10. (Version 2.0)

A Better Finder Rename | Sep 18 2007 |
BIG77 Searching for "rename" brings back a lot of very capable freeware renamers. Renaming batches of files in interesting ways has been a need for a LONG time, so there are many things out there. ABFR is indeed well done and elegant, but probably most people can make do with free substitutes. (Version 7.9.2)

OmniGraphSketcher | Sep 10 2007 |
BIG77 I tried it last time. It is indeed extremely simple and not really a real graphing program -- I'd say it's more of a drawing program tuned for graphs. If that's what you need, I recommend it. But I also recomend trying it out first to be sure! (Version 1.4.8)

BIG77 Pretty funny how backwards this seems. I bought instantly, thus missed out on the MacHeist deal, which was announced hours later. And MacHeist added another app now. So I ask: where is the incentive to buy early? Not exactly complaining -- the deal is still good, but this sure has been a strange way to run a promotion! Next time I will be a lot more cautious instead of buying early to get things going. (And yes, I owned all but 2 of the MU apps already, but none of the MacHeist add-ons! LOL!) (Version )

BIG77 Well, millica, Graphic Convertor is in a class by itself. It's been compared to a mini version of Photoshop, having fairly powerful editing features without a lot of the bloat. I'm not suggesting it can replace Photoshop for everyone, but it can go a very long way. It also has an outstanding file browser and catalogger. There's a lot of overlap with iPhoto on those functions, though GC doesn't construct a safe database of originals (can be a plus or a minus) and GC is a far more powerful editor. One of GCs best features is its ability to open a HUGE number of different file formats -- just amazing! -- and save in dozens of formats too. If there is any doubt as to the incredible power of GC, just read the release notes. You'll notice updates are very frequent and each update brings detailed release notes with dozens of new features every time. (Yes, even just point updates.) I've been using GC since the very beginning and there has been only ONE upgrade requiring payment in all those years! It's a labour of love and very well done! (Version )

BIG77 A couple of posts here compared TTP to DiskWarrior. It's not really a valid comparison. True, ONE of the many things TTP can do is directory optimization, but that is the ONLY thing DiskWarrior does (and it does it very well). TTP also does file and disk optimization, allows you to contruct a bootable emergency repair disk, can run a whole suite of hardware tests and more. In my experience, they each have their place, along with Drive Genius and Datarescue. I wouldn't want to be without any of them! (Version )

BIG77 Yes, I agree with others -- I'm rather double-peeved by most of this: The person who spent the money - i.e. *ME* - and even took the time to send out invites to others, thus giving free advertising to MUPropmo, gets less than people who purchase the promo based upon my own recommendation! Plus, since I purchased very quickly as a way to help get the ball rolling, I missed out on the macheist deal, which was arranged a few hours after my purchase. Sounds to me that paying, long-term customers should be the ones MU should strive to keep happy yet this promotion seems to have worked in reverse. (Version )

BIG77 No normal upgrade paths means that if you purchase a product here, like Profcast version 1, and tomorrow Profcast version 2 is announced at $59, but only $29 for upgraders, you don't qualify for the upgrade price. I choose Profcast because that is inded about to be upgraded for a fee. I know one serial number I received is identical to one I already had, so how they can determine I purchased a discount bundle here is a good question (in this case)! (Version )
