The Unarchiver
Nov 9 2007

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS  Unarchiver also tries to take over all unarchiving, your prebindings are automatically changed to it, without any further enquiry, and that's not polite, even it it really could work with all the archives it tries to open. But it can't.

I don't think it is ungrateful to criticise features that don't work, even if the app is free. If MS-Word would be free I would criticise it's bugs, that's what reviews are for... No need to call someone luser(loser) for that.

There are tons of semi-finished apps here, the readers should know that before downloading highly promised apps and get frustrated afterwards. I like straightforwarded reviews.

For many people time means money, so the term "free" is relative if you spent time to download and try out none-working apps.

So Peace, Mr. or Mrs. SubliminalTeddyBear...

WAHA.06X36  That simply isn't true. The Unarchiver does not take over any file types on its own unless you explicitly select them in the file format list.

HOWEVER, OS X itself may select The Unarchiver as a default app for various formats. The Unarchiver itself has no control over this.

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS  Blame his holiness Steve Jobs once more for not integrating this in OS X

...and no windowshade (surprisingly in stickies it is possible)

...and no popup-windows (best comfort and best timesaving-feature in OS- 8-9)

...and no built-in adblocking in the browser

...and the need to restart your Mac to free up your RAM from javascript-garbage - just like like in the nineties...

Amen

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS  Maybe someone should first have a look at the free "Bean"?

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24881/bean

or for further needs have a look at the apps at "devon".

LEV   Bean and JNR are not the same thing. If you had used both, you'd know. Bean is a fine lightweight RTF app; a kind of TextEdit with a little bit more. JNR is an app for writing books, papers etc, with built=in live outlining, a note-taking facility, very well implemented marginalia which can be categorised for different kinds of notes etc.

Both get text into a file. Fine. After that, they diverge considerably. And if you don't think JNr is, even theoretically, worth $20 or whatever, then you don't need it.

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS  works well but very slow and is very very expensive, would cost me more than my scanner!

I will stay with Agfa Fotolook or Vuescan on my older Arcus 1200

RBUNN83815  Not sure why it won't work on your system. Could you try to download another copy and install it again? It's possible that this may fix the issue. If not, please let me know so we can try to figure out what else could cause the problem here.

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS  If you are on design, you should try "Smoothstripes" designed by Max Rudberg, a nice makeover to Aqua, looks better & more mature than Uno or Apples' Original Aqua style.

You can download a standalone installer package for Tiger, so no need to pay for the buggy Shapeshifter.

See & download the free "Smoothstripes" here:

http://www.maxthemes.com/themes/?theme=SmoothStripes

After installation have a look at the clear scrollbars and the beautyfull greyscale replacement for Apples' "brushed"-style, - for me it is nearly perfect, especially if you choose the "graphit"-variation
