BABY BLOC Are there other developers who are charging an extra "License Code Lookup" fee so you can ask them to lookup the license code if you forget it? I've never had to do that before. Never occurred to me it was a service that "cost" much. Maybe it takes a lot of time? (Version 3.1.4)

DJ-1800 | Aug 26 2008 |
BABY BLOC This is the mid/level DJ program I use to broadcast my radio show. It was easy to learn because it's laid out just like the Denon CD players at the station. It has a growing list of features and refinements that have been making it easier to use and more reliable. Most of the problems I have with it seem to be problems with Quicktime or hardware issues beyond the developer's control – that you can't hot-swap outputs, controllers. I really like the new full-screen mode. I kinda wish there was visible wave-forms. The pluggins for controllers seem to be working very nicely. There's more controllers supported all the time. And it still runs pretty good (with pitchlock off) on my older 15" Powerbook, running Leopard. (Version 3.2.1)

BABY BLOC I'll have to learn more (where's the release notes?) before I decide on a $20 upgrade.) The new version looks flashier, but I like simplicity. If this one does something that's really better, maybe I can use it. (Version 3.0)

Street Spirit Fade Out | Jan 5 2008 |
BABY BLOC I use this almost every night! I feared it was broken under Leopard. After the dialogs it had a grey "working" beach-ball. I thought it used to send you back to iTunes and work in the background? It still works though. Whew. I'm gonna check out Rockabye here too. Will it go in the scripts menu?

DockStar | Jan 3 2008 |
BABY BLOC I may have to get this now. The addition of a menu-item makes this program useful for me finally. I keep my dock hidden, so dock labels aren't very useful. All I want is the number of mails on the menu-bar, in the least space. Even the old programs that used to do that are growing incompatible (not sure if MailUnread will work with Leopard). And most of them had a useless icon on the menubar next to the number of mails. Like I'd forget what the number was? Happily deleting the icon file made it go to just a slim number. Whew. But now this flashy program, that doesn't cost too much, will do that for me, with maybe some other features too? I may have to take you up on it. Nice job. (Version 2.1)

BABY BLOC Works well. Worth the cost if you get the Audio Hijack combo-discount. I wish I'd seen MP3 Trimmer first, because not being able to join two files together with Fission is giving me some remorse. (Version 1.1.1)

Quicksilver | Sep 2 2006 |
BABY BLOC I use it, and think the beta lable is a quirk to ignore basically. It's more stable than a lot of final releases, but it is constantly developing. There is discussion of what beta should mean in the QS forums. It looks like there's some features that have yet to be implimented, but what's there seems to work fine, and I've never been clear what the yet-to-be-added mystical features are. You can decide in preferences whether you want just "stable releases," why those aren't final releases, I'm not really sure. (Version 1.0b50)

BABY BLOC I've just been trying this, and I really like the idea of having something designed to play through, not to record/mix/edit. I just wanted to try out effects, and play around. So far, it's fun, but seems to drag and hog CPU on my little (?) 15" Powerbook (1.25GHz, with 1.25 GB ram). So far I'm running one real instrument through my Presonus Firebox. It hung a few times and I had to force-quit. It feels like it takes a long time to "register" mouse clicks, and the "user" CPU runs pretty high. Not as hot as Garageband, which seems to use "System" level CPU more, according to Activity Monitor. One of my goals is to play-through better than Garageband, but I wish it was a little quicker for me. I haven't even tried the visualizations yet. Just getting the basic audio working. Don't know if I'll buy this, sure might if I get it going. I really tried to find an app that does this, and here it is; I sure hope it works for me. Please note that these are only beginner's impressions. (Version 2.0)

Jiggler | Jun 15 2006 |
BABY BLOC Wow, I had version 0.1 and these updates are nice. I'd forgotten about jiggler, and should have used it recently when I was burning DVD projects but wanted my laptop to sleep when I wasn't doing that. Much easier than going back and forth from Energy Saver. I think my powerbook fell asleep while running DiskWarrior the other day. Not good. Glad to be reminded and get the update. Oh, and free is a gift, thanks. (Version 1.3)

Road Trip Effect | May 31 2006 |
BABY BLOC Good fun. We used it in our bike movie and it worked well. They've just added the ability to save your settings which is a great addition. We made our own icons for my bike and the kid's trailer, used a map we modified in Photoshop. It's a good effect. Nice work. We ended up running credits over it at the end. Very slick. BABY BLOC Interesting interface; what are "templates?" Is there anything here I can't already do with the hundreds of free scripts from the crankin' scriptors at Doug's Applescripts for iTunes? I know I was intimidated with setting up my first script, but the folks were sooo helpful, and now I use at least one of them almost every time I open iTunes. —Google Art, Add 1/2 Star to Rating, Check Mark (inverts checks of selections), Replace Text, Append to Selected Tag... the list is long, and you can pick and choose to fit. Me? The last thing I do almost every night is Timer Fade Out, so iTunes slowly fades and puts my mac to sleep, just like me. All that's free. 25$ seems a bit steep here. http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php (Version 1.0)

BABY BLOC Great stuff! Only problem is I had to look it up here to remember the name to find it on my HD. Now I've added an abbreviation ("Roman") so Quicksilver can find it. I hate when they date movies in Roman Numerals. When else do I need that? Now I can fight back with the tools of the oppressor!

UnPlugged | May 5 2006 |
BABY BLOC I've tried a lot—reseting Power Management, zapping pram, lots of basic maintenance. No change in my Powerbook still occasionally "unrecognizing" that it's plugged in. Like I said, this little utility very much takes care of my problem. I just see the notice and unplug and plug back in. No loss (not a cure, but a great relief.) Only thing I've suspected is that the power thing may be related to fast-user switching where there's more than one logged in user. No idea really. Thanks for your comments. (Version 1.6)

BABY BLOC Seems the best of the lot. My 15" powerbook (AL) has developed the annoyance of "unrecognizing" the power-source at random moments, leaving my battery to drain. I've spent hours troubleshooting, but until I find the answer, this little app lets me know when it happens. I wish I could set (with Growl or whatever) to notify only when power goes out. I usually know when I plugged in. Can that be two separate notices? (Version 1.4)

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM feature request was added in 1.4.1. about the bug i have to say i got the exact same. i guess it's something related to the powersupply, because i only have that problem when i visit my parents, but i usually don't have this problem at home. maybe it's because of power-fluctuations. HealthEngage Depression | Mar 14 2006 |
BABY BLOC $60 is an awful lot for what I've done with a few dollars worth of paper copies of some forms before. I download from MacUpdate without entering my personal data (why's that necessary on their site?) This program may not be ready for OS X. It uses an ugly Java looking GUI starting with an installer that tells me it won't work since I don't have permissions—which is true since I'm not using my admin account. But it won't let me authenticate with my admin code, so it stops me from installing. I opened the app by using "Show package contents" when I right-clicked on the installer. That worked. It isn't native to OS X, that's obvious. There's some problems of menus not scrolling far enough for you to access items. Needs polish. The data they collect and organize is pretty impressive, and I could see it being useful. You can enter foods you ate and it helps calculate nutritional intake, and for exercise it calculates calories burned. Fun. The presets are wide-ranging; from standard things like, "light exercise," to interesting occupations like, "worm digging." Cool. You can add your own too. In the end it's more than I need, and way more than I'm willing to spend. And it suffers pretty badly from non-Macness. (Version 3.2)

BABY BLOC I like this app. It's fun to mess around with and might even be useful. I do wish they didn't add the ugly blue halo around the earth; as I understand it the atmosphere does not look nearly as thick as that. We're a lot closer to the big black void than we might like to think. Wish they'd show that. Still, fun to play with aside from that. (Version 3.1.0617.0)

BRUCEY FRED Using AppleJack last night I repaired something that DiskUtility and Diskwarrior missed. I couldn't back up my drive until I updated AppleJack for Tiger and ran it. Then it worked! Later, SuperDuper's helpful support forum showed how to fix the Tiger bug manually. http://www.shirt-pocket.com/forums/showthread.php?t=318 OS 10.4.3, AppleJack 1.4.1 update (Version 1.4.1)

BRUCEY FRED "This high-on-mac developer, forgot that their target audience has got work to do and doesn't want trinkets that get in the way." Um...the Target Audience for this app are people who either DON'T have work to do, or don't want to DO it. You are correct; it is a trinket that gets in the way for those who might be high-on-mac. Does MacUpdate have a catagory for "Fun-Ware"? That might protect those with disabilities in the humor department. (Version 1.22)
