ARTWILSON22  I was looking for a Visio-type program for the Mac and was very excited to find OmniGraffle. The program appears to be an excellent solution for Mac users needing diagramming tool.

However, don't be fooled. After one hour of pleasant use, I needed a curly bracket/brace {} stencil. For the next hour I scoured the entire program looking for this basic stencil to no avail. This is one of the most basic of tools in Visio and is even easy to find in PowerPoint. A simple web search indicates that users have complained about this on OmniGraffle's own blog since 2006.

Thanks, OmniGraffle for including a country map of Botswana but for leaving out a bracket. 1 star for the wasted time caused by the idiocy of this omission.

JOHN TUCKEY  er, just a crazy crazy thought, but perhaps there isn't a 'bracket stencil' because its quite easy to insert the brackets from the input menu or straight keyboard input? After all, why waste time on a stencil for something included in every font.

GARMEHL  Please check out www.graffletopia.com

There is definitely a bracket stencil available there. There are hundreds of other free stencils as well.

A little bit of searching would have led you to that site. A one star review was not warranted.

ARTWILSON22  Enough with the demos already! This game has been in beta for 6 years. A monkey could write the Bible in that amount of time. What possible good is releasing another demo going to do? The Mac community knows this game already and is eagerly awaiting its full release.

These "Super Happy Fun Fun" clowns in charge of this release should be a little more "super" and make us a little more "happy" by releasing the full version.

ARTWILSON22  Well, let's see, a few minutes to write a review accomplishes two things:

- bashing your ridiculous software provides that touch of humor i was going for when i downloaded it originally

- its a a socially-conscious maneuver designed to prevent other Mac users from wasting their time. Obviously you understand nothing about the concept of social responsibility. 932 Mac users have downloaded your dreck to date and 932 * 5 minutes = 77 hours and 40 minutes of wasted time your silly little application has already caused.

Maybe if you just put out a "Hello World!" program you could achieve the satisfaction of publishing something without taxing as much user time.

The exclamation mark on your efforts is that Pluto doesn't even have rings around it like your icon indicates, you bumbling simpleton.

ARTWILSON22  This application is complete garbage! There is no element of humor to this unless you find it amusing to waste 5 minutes of your life downloading it, wondering WTF it is, realizing its an application that lets you write illegible notes in black text on a charcoal background, trashing it, and then wondering how on Earth, er, Pluto, the developer considers it to be humorous.

APFELZ  “It is the ability to take a joke, not make one, that proves you have a sense of humor.”

(Max Eastman)

I am very shure that most "downloaders" know about the reason to build that "joke" and publishing it…

and those who did't probably know something about behaving or humor…

(Pluto is used by Apple for polls or patent applications for years now - and every time it is used - there are rumors about what it is could be - so last time all german mac-news sites and magazines wrote again dozends of articles I wrote thes small "garbage")

nothing more and nothing less

WJB3WVU  Artwilson22, you're either a sociopath or just a plain curmudgeon. I've read the rest of your reviews. You need medication, pal.

ARTWILSON22  This game is extremely frustrating in two senses:

1. it continually misevaluates poker hands, i.e. a Two Pair beats a Three-of-a-Kind

2. the no-limit AI plays like monkeys

Other than that, its ok.

ARTWILSON22  Midnight Mansion is a little like going to a Disney movie; its great for kids but a little too cheesy for the rest of us. Still, this is the best that Mac users are going to get until the OS X Dark Castle finally comes out.

X-Plane

ARTWILSON22  It looks like X-Plane would be a great find for a true flight simulation enthusiast however for a newcomer who is interested in learning, it lacks guidance. You sit there on the runway wondering what to do. I would have expected a little more from a Mac app but X-Plane does not even offer a true Mac interface but some wack UI that looks like a flavor of Linux. A disappointment.

THOR420  Unfortunately, X-Plane has historically had issues with documentation, but as is implied in most 'flight' simulators, you fly. I would highly recommend visiting the sites listed here: http://x-plane.com/xworld.html. They are right on the mark saying x-plane.org is "THE PLACE for newsgroups, downloads, etc". The people are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things X-Plane.

The user interface is what you get unless you want to change the look of it (which is not that difficult to do). I am not sure what you mean saying that it "looks like a flavor of Linux". I have used Linux since 1994ish and for some reason I think you meant to say: looks like GTK+ running on X Windows System. Most of my Linux boxes don't even have graphical user interfaces.

All in all, most serious flight simmers would agree that as far as real world flight physics accuracy goes, X-Plane is the only choice. It is too bad you thought it a disappointment.
