I'm going to have to back up globetrotter on this one, that last version of Plaxo had some bugs. The menu bar item was also unquittable, even if you quit it, it kept coming back, and during syncs I would get screen-height growl error messages full of XML code. It was very frustrating. I'm gonna give this new version a try, but Plaxo obviously considers Mac users second class citizens and the software is much less powerful (i.e. no selective calendar syncing) and buggier than its Windows counterpart.

Version 7 sure sounds cool, but the question with any Chronos product remain: how stable is it?

Historically, as any user of SOHO Notes will say, Notes is not a very stable product, nor does it tend to deliver on even half of Chronos' over-ambitious promises.

I wish I had the courage to try version 7, but I've lost so much important data to previous releases that I really can't be bothered.

My experience exactly. I gave up on this software a long time ago; it's too bad to see the developer hasn't improved his game any in that time. Billings is where I'm at right now, and I'm quite happy with it.

The current version 4.0.2 is horrible. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it numerous times and it continuously fails to sync much of anything.

To be more precise, sync attempts with iCal tasks or calendar events, or Address Book contacts, consistently result in errors with little or no data being synced.

Folder syncs tend to quit after only a few items at either end of the sync transfer, and even then each item is usually only partially transferred.

Syncs for videos consistently fail. I'm forced to resorting to emailing all the videos to myself.

Current documentation for the product states that I should be able to mount the device on my Mac desktop as a hard drive, but there is no such feature in this product (and just having that one capability would alleviate so many other frustrations).

What's more, Missing Sync constantly locks up with a spinning lollypop and quite often I must reboot my Mac entirely to even get it to respond to the Windows Mobile device after that happens.

Probably my first line of advice would be to avoid Windows Mobile like the plague anyway. It's the most horrible excuse for an operating system I've ever been exposed to.

However, if you must use Windows Mobile and have a Mac, just plan on syncing your iCal calendar events and Address Book contacts, and use Plaxo (which is free) rather than this product from Mark/Space. Plaxo's (www.plaxo.com) Windows Mobile conduit works flawlessly over the air and requires almost no configuration.

This poor excuse for a piece of software from Mark/Space is an endless source of extreme frustration. It's a complete and utter waste of time and money.

Jumsoft is clearly a very ambitious company, considering their wide variety of product offerings. However, consider carefully before you lay out your hard-earned cash for any of them.

The company's support is dismal, and they permit well-known and documented bugs to exist in their products for long periods of time (i.e. Process went for almost a year without a single upgrade, despite their public acknowledgement that several of its key advertised features were non-functional).

This is a company that needs to take a step back and decide if they're all about quality or quantity. Currently, for them, it's quantity, and hence the quality of their products and their support system is very low.

Your comments would apply to more than just this product from Jumsoft. I blew some hard-earned cash on another of their products, Process, only to be disappointed by its instability, inaccuracy, and real lack of feature support. Like you, I generally got a cold shoulder from the guys at Jumsoft. Repeatable bugs I reported over a year ago remain in Process.

This is an awesome product, and this deal makes the license a total steal.

50 bucks for a simple app like this from a company called "Ratface"? You've gotta be kidding, people. The company's web page even features a ridiculous spelling error in a massive typeface (it's "budgeting", not "budgetting") which speaks volumes about their attention to detail. At best, this app is worth $15, and they definitely needs a more respectful company name-tag.

I made the wise decision to abandon Chronos' painfully bug-ridden and crash-prone software about 6 months ago. Curious as to whether it had actually gotten any better, this evening I installed SOHO Organizer to check it out. Not surprisingly, this application and Notes are both as bad as they ever were.

Organizer crashed within about 2 minutes of use. And it was a repeatable crash that followed a very common usage pattern in adding a task to the calendar.

Additionally, I added two "attachments" to a contact, initially indicating that they were outbound calls. After the second crash Notes changed them to tasks. Go figure.

Furthermore, in the time zones, it lists Pacific as being -7 to GMT. In fact, it is -8.

In general the application is slow, confusing, resource-intensive, and very, very buggy. Chronos has a serious case of features-itis. They seem obsessed with adding an endless barrage of features to their products when they haven't even stabilized its core operations.

It's too bad the company's developers aren't as skilled as its marketers and they might actually crank out some decent product.

And in regards to contacting the company, their phone number is (435) 615-7335, according to the WHOIS record for their domain name (http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=chronosnet.com).

I've tried to contact the developer several times over the past week to try and purchase the app, to no avail. If they won't even help you spend your money, it's certainly an indication of the quality of service you will (or won't, as the case may be) after you own a license. Beware!

I get mixed results with this tool, and I'm still not sure it's worth even $29.

Wow. Amazingly simple to use and much more useful than I expected. It should be built-in to Safari.

When I purchased this software almost a year ago I had a similar problem. I did try calling the number on the site to no effect. I finally got through to the developer after calling the manager of the building that his office is in. He provided me with the developer's direct number (it's (416) 861-8299 X221, if you need it) . It still took a couple of days for the the developer to respond to my call and ship the product. His excuse at the time was that his wife had just delivered a baby, which was fair enough. I wonder what the excuse is this year?

That wouldn't do me much good if I were in ER with a problem. The number is not listed on the provided card that's intended to be carried to provide instant access to one's medical record.

I believe this company has gone under. I also get no response from the company when I send email and have also tried countless times.

Furthermore, one of the major features of this product is definitely disabled. You're supposed to be able to carry around a card for "emergency" purposes so that when you need to look up your information via the web you can access it based on an address on that card. As of this writing that address (http://www.bodyjournal.com/er) is non-responsive.

This is also so unfortunate as this product was excellent and showed tremendous promise and with very little competition.

Like the comments from hueco, I must admit to feeling like I've bought into a dead end. Billings is clearly an afterthought product of MarketCircle. It feels like an application that they developed for their own use in-house (and is therefor remarkably polished) and released on a whim commercially, without any clear idea on a future strategy.

Since my earlier comments I've come to recognize Billings more as a set of shortcomings than accomplishments. In other words, its a remarkable app only for what it doesn't do rather than for what it does.

I still harbour secret hopes that MarketCircle will one day invest some more time into improving the featureset of this application, for it's simply the best organized and most intuitive to use application in its class. However, based on the lack of response to problems from them and the lack of a clear statement on the future of upgrades, I suspect these hopes will go unrequited. I am again on the trail for a replacement.

So, what are its shortcomings? To name a few:

  • Doesn't automatically number invoices or permit manual numbering

  • Restricts invoice field editing (i.e. Invoice date is not modifiable from current date)

  • Doesn't permit editing of generated invoices

  • Doesn't automatically sense periods of inactivity whilst a timer is running

  • Doesn't permit entry of work notes for specific timer sessions (only globally for projects)

  • Can't export data

  • Markup of expense items do not transfer to invoice, original cost price is used instead

  • Reports are paltry and meaningless; application needs more reports

Additionally, the timer interface is severely lacking.

  • Needs to display client and project along with task name; as it is, tasks get all mixed up together without any sense of organization

Unfortunately, at this time, I recant my original recommendation for Billings as its just not feature-rich enough for this price range, especially when you consider how much more you get from competing products. Hopefully MarketCircle will decide to get serious about this app and improve it, but I'm not holding my breath.
