For all those reading all the negative remarks about this software package, I would like to illuminate some of the issues surrounding this software package. This is *not* a scanning package for those who don't know what they are doing. This includes those "Who have been scanning for years". While the trolls won't believe me I work for a major Museum and my job is to scan and digitize our collection. It is extremely important that you are able to control all aspects of the scan. This is what Vuescan is for. It is not for the person who scans in their holiday snaps, or the occasional document (although you can, nothing stopping you and you may just learn something about digitization). This program is far and away the best scanning software you will ever find, but again if you think 72 DPI is the way to go, please do us a favour and learn a little about how scanning works before you make a judgement. You will not get the same results from Silverfast or Canon. With well over 100,000 scans and counting, Vuescan has never let me down. Mr. Hamrick is easy to email and talk to about issues with the software. And while yes, the interface needs a bit of an update, the power of this program for digitization mitigates any issues with the look of the thing. As a final word, again, if you want fast and easy go with Canon software of Silverfast. If you want total control over all aspects of the scan, get Vuescan, but learn a little about how digitization works before you give up on it. It really is worth the trouble to learn. |
