AND_ROO  Just found my first bug

Visiting YouTube and playing a video when you try to perform a search, the drop down suggestions menu from the search field, gets chopped up by the video stream underneath it

AND_ROO  They've done it again!!! Why do they keep moving the refresh button to the opposite end of the toolbar each time a major upgrade is released? I wish I could give my frank and candid opinion of the interface design team at Apple

AND_ROO  Still a problem with screen redrawing, In 7.0.2 I'm now getting Safari window data (animated gifs) overlaying the iTunes window when iTunes is brought to the front, which is awesomely retro. The screen redraws don't work when switching between list and artwork views (see previous review), and on launch I'm still getting a progress bar - is iTunes checking my credit history before it lets me see my music? If I wanted this level of programming incompetence for proprietary soft/hardware I'd be giving my money to Mr Gates

AND_ROO  7.01 Is still full of bugs on my DP G4. The program now has a progress bar saying its loading my library when it starts up! This is just VERY irritating. The real problems are with screen redraws and switching between the view modes. Putting a finder/app window infront of iTunes gives me black areas in the iTunes window as does selecting between the Music, Movies TV Shows etc. Switching between the view modes just makes iTunes unusable as the list selection goes out of sync accross the window - the right hand side being the only operable part. I havn't seen an Apple app as bad as this in a long long time. Back to v6 AGAIN, I'll send Apple the bill for wasting so much of my valuable time.

AND_ROO  I'm confused ?? There are 2 ways to get iTunes 6 going again one is to 4th reply and the 2nd is a combination of the 4th & 6th reply which takes you back to a pre 7 state.

When you say 'When dropping the Old Library on the icon it says: This library was made with a newer version of iTunes' are you droping the;

iTunes Library

file onto the iTunes icon?

AND_ROO  v7 makes a new Library and backs up the old one (usually in Users/yourusername/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries.

You need to replace the new with the old taking care to rename it the same as the one youre replacing iTunes 7 adds old and the date to your pervious one. You will then be able to re-run 6.0.5 pkg with all your music still in place

AND_ROO  How do you activate this 'bells & whistles feature'? My music collection is so awful this option could only improve the sound of some of the tracks I have.

AND_ROO  Sorry to take so long in replying - I took the plunge and installed 7 too...and I must agree, what a beta it is! On the + side I've worked out how to get around the no item glitch and intstall the old itunes from your iLife DVD or the above link

You need to delete 2 files before running the installer

remove 'iTunesX.pkg' file from the root (ie double click your hard drive icon) - Library/receipts folder - to make sure your getting the right one do a get info on the file and make sure its got version: iTunes 7.0.0 in its general description.

and the file 'iTunes Library' from your 'username account folder'/Music/iTunes.

then reinstall as described above - and drop your iTunes music library folder on iTunes application icon to rebuild your collection sorry but the newer iTunes library file just won't work with the old iTunes - good luck.

AND_ROO  "please understand that it's an incredibly difficult procedure to update MILLIONS of lines of code for a new processor"

Has Microsoft still not got to grips with Intel's processors yet!!!??? how long has it been now?....20 years. You would think by now Intel and Microsoft would have developed some form of partnership in R&D so updates go smoother. But then we are talking about microsoft.

Is there another corporation that so dislikes its customers?

AND_ROO  'AVI uses mpeg4 compression. which is what quicktime is based on'...So the Audio Video Interleave, a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 is fully supported by Quicktime (/Pro) or the Mac OS is it!! You must be very green because Apple has never supported the AVI format fully. WHAT IS THE POINT OF QUICKTIME IF IT DOSEN'T A MAJOR VIDEO FORMAT!

Once again many thanks to the developers of MPlayer
