ALABEMOS  I suppose if you have continuous internet service, you can learn online, but especially in the schools, we don't necessarily want a child to be online unsupervised, and in my part of the world, the school does not have internet access. This program is ideal for our school for those reasons.

Ryan's Math Quiz

ALABEMOS  Nice app.

Although the app is very good as it is, I have two suggestions that might make it useful for an even wider audience. For non-English speakers, instead of "Yes", use something else that would indicate correctness (a smiley face, thumbs up etc.).

It would also be nice to have the option of seeing addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems with an option for a vertical presentation.

Math Page Generator

ALABEMOS  This is a nice simple app that does just what it says. If you are a teacher working with elementary school children you'll find it handy. You can enter how many problems you want on the sheet,up to 20 for algebra, and up to 50 for the four basic operations and how many sheets you want. If you have 25 students, you can generate 25 different sheets on the same level with one click. And for the busy teacher, you can print an answer sheet to check the problems with as well.

There are three choices of difficulty: simple, average, and advanced. Problems are generated for the basic operations and for algebra. You can have the problems presented horizontally or vertically (exception: algebra horizontally only, of course.)

The only thing I didn't like, was that problems stay exactly the same, whether you want 10 or 50. So if you only have a few problems, you use a tiny bit of space, and leave most of the page blank. With younger children who may need to have smaller amounts of problems and larger fonts, I prefer to enlarge and spread out the problems, making them easy for newer readers.

Overall, it is a handy little program, and I expect to use it frequently.

****.

ALABEMOS  This is a very simple game of memory, like you might play with a deck of cards. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but is easy for a small child to use, and would develop their mousing skills.

The cards, when turned over, display either a number, a picture, or a letter, accompanied by the sound of the card turning over. I found the graphics a bit smaller than I would like to see for children.

It would be nice if future versions would let you choose if you want only pictures, or letters, or numbers. Or perhaps have the player match capital and small letters, or numbers with a corresponding card representing the number pictorially (e.g. five stars on one card to correspond with the number five on the matching card.) This could be a good little piece of educational software if it had those features. I'm not complaining though; the application is nice just as it is.

At any rate, the application weighs in at just under a megabyte, which these days is quite economical. It's nicely done, and offered free. It quits when you tell it to and starts right up when you double click its icon, and doesn't freeze. Well done.

MAKAI  "have the player match capital and small letters"

Great idea, I second this!

I also thank you for coming up with the idea of matching numbers with cards representing the number pictorially. Seriously, I am impressed about the thoughtfulness of this review.

ALABEMOS  Actually I used version 1.4.2 on my mac which is now running 10.4.7. At the time I wasn't aware there were later versions. That version worked for me; your mileage may vary.

I had spent over six hours doing all the regular things, permissions repairs, uninstalls, reinstalls--even had done a clean install of my system, and still could not get my new HP all-in-one printer going. I googled and googled, and did just about everything suggested. Nothing. I called HP, and after some discussion, they gave me the sad news (and they were correct) that it was a mac problem, not an HP problem. I googled around a little more.

Voila! Enter Printer Setup Repair. Wow! In just fifteen minutes, everything was fixed! This program is worth its weight in gold.

By the way, do READ THE READ ME. I'd say it is essential for most of us.

I registered the software. I definitely want to support this developer.
