AGLEE Not only does it save desk space, it has saved me a lot of wrist strain because I can use my one ergonomic keyboard for all the computers on my desk. The Leopard update is much appreciated. I just sent a few bucks to the developer. (Version 1.0)

AGLEE I just took a quick look and saw two obvious UI flaws. First, in the dialog for creating a new project, the "Choose..." button opens a file selection panel that doesn't have the "New Folder" button. Second, it wasn't at all obvious how to change the default name of the initial document that was created for me ("New Document 1"). Double-clicking it didn't make the cell editable. Even the Inspector doesn't let me change the name. Isn't that what inspectors are for? Right-clicking a table row and selecting "Rename" is the kind of thing I'd expect from a Windows app. And I don't say this lightly, because I see Bartas is a strictly Mac development shop, and I generally like to support dedicated Mac developers. These may be petty observations in the grand scheme of a great app, but I will say that two silly UI annoyances in the first two minutes made me lose interest in exploring any further. AGLEE Registered user since 2003. * Minimal amount of structure. For this purpose I much prefer a two-pane interface to a three-pane interface. * Instantaneous find-as-you-go search. * Extremely reasonable price. I also like the option to auto-detect URLs. I can look up my password for a web site and then go to that web site with one click. (Version 1.7)

AGLEE I could have sworn it said "License: Free" on the MacUpdate page. That is not an accurate description of shareware, even if what you are downloading is a free try-before-you-buy. I see the MacUpdate page now says "License: Shareware", so either it was changed or I misread it the first time, in which case I apologize. Even so, at this moment, I can't find anything on the developer site about buying, only about trying. I don't like that kind of omission. Why wouldn't a shareware author say something about pricing? If the price is still being decided, why not say so? Why would I download an app if I don't know whether I'll want to pay the price for it? At least the developer's other product pages do mention price, but even so they seem to want to skirt the issue. They say "Register Now" instead of "Buy", and the price is mentioned way down in the corner. Charging money for software is nothing to be ashamed of, certainly not when the prices seem reasonable. AGLEE The developer site says "Try Media Indexer for free now! Click here to download Media Indexer PR2." Is this a beta of a commercial product? If so, I don't consider that the same as "free." (Version 1.0 PR2)

ALORSOFT About the price of this software. This is a pre-release version. It is free, really. You are NOT going to be asked for money, because, well, it is not 100% finished yet, and selling pre-release sofware is a bad habit :) If the users input is encouraging, the development will probably lead to the release of a shareware product, but don't worry, you will be warned by the time :) Hoping this clears the issues with this software... And don't forget to fill the survey - it's always important to get user input ! Alorsoft (Version 1.0 PR2)

BRUCE_Y I had similar experience yesterday (Monday 15th) - no access to site, no DL. But this afternoon (Tuesday 16th) the download of 2.0v236 is working, and site is responding. Download of CP Notebook just completed successfully. I notice their site is redesigned now from way it used to look, so maybe that redesign was part of the access problem... or not... anyway, give a try again and see if it works for you. AGLEE Thanks, this is always good for a couple of minutes of fun when I need a break. The bass is way too low when played through my AlBook's speakers. There's not much you can do about wimpy speakers, but it would be nice to have some simple way to adjust the balance. Also, the buttons for the guitar riffs are of the hold-down-to-repeat type (they have the "Continuous" check box turned on in IB). I don't know if this is on purpose, but it means if my mouse lingers too long on one of them I get an ugly static-y sound. (Version 1.4)

AGLEE I get the same problem (with my own home directory name, of course). I highly recommend PHPfi (search on MacUpdate for "php function index"). It is snappy, cleanly designed, and free for non-profit users. "Freelancers" pay only $8.50 and "Business Users" only $16.50. I'm not affiliated with the developer; I'm just a happy user (or at least I was when I was doing PHP work). (Version 0.9.1b)

ANDREW HEDGES As I mention in the FAQ, I also am a (paid!) user of PHPfi. It's a great app! This widget serves a similar purpose. It's just a different vector for getting at the information. That, plus it doesn't take up space in the Dock. One big advantage of PHPfi is you can use AppleScript to jump from BBEdit straight to a particular function in PHPfi. If there's a way to do the same thing in PHPfr, I'd like to know! (Version 0.9.1b)

PHPQuickReference | Mar 19 2006 |
AGLEE I entered "read" in the search field, hit Return, and got the documentation for hw_root(). So it seems there is some work to do. I haven't explored the User Notes feature, but it looks like it could be an interesting innovation. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to switch from the excellent PHPfi (search MacUpdate for "php function index"). It is free for non-profit users and cheap for everyone else. PHPfi is snappier than PHPQuickReference, since it doesn't do any HTTP round trips. It displays a live updating list of matching terms, and it supports substring searches instead of requiring you to enter an exact match for the whole term like PHPQuickReference does. Substring searches are very useful when you don't know the exact spelling of something, or for doing a concept-based search (for example, entering something like "ascii" or "sql" to find matching function names). I am not affiliated with the author of PHPfi. (Version 0.6)
