If you aim to wait for this developer to deliver a release of "Nighthawk" (now nearly a YEAR past the announced beta release date), think twice. It is a supreme irony that this company took the name "NOW Software." NUDC was YEARS trying to come right for OS X, and never did. To this day, the last release (5.3.2) remains quirky, and the last Leopard update available on the developer's site is dated 07 APRIL, with no ETA info on Nighthawk—not that we could believe any timetable they offered, they've moved it back so many times. After tearing my hair out over bugs that survived release after release and getting no response from the company to repeat emails, or a blithe "we're working on it," I figured they had a covert plan to run the company into the ground for the write-off, since nothing else explains such striding and relentless irresponsibility to customers. The sad bit is that NUDC in its day (pre-OS X) was far and away the best program of its kind for Mac. The much touted "Nighthawk," if it ever arrives, probably will live up to the rotten reputation this company has worked hard to earn.

I think that many of us loyal Eudora fans were thrilled to hear that a company had picked up the project of development of a true Eudora and Eudora-like successor, given the glaring failure of tje so-called "Eudora 8" based on Thunderbird, which doesn't come up to Eudora's ankles. This company, however, has seriously dropped the ball. As other reviewers have noted, this is hardly beta software. Out of 17 areas in the Settings file, only two are live; the others show "Under Development." This would be forgivable, but the web site claims that development is "close to being complete" as of 05 August. How anyone trying the software could find such a claim convincing is a bafflement. The UI is extremely buggy, the developer has not responded to emails, and tonight (11 August) is the deadline for "special pricing" of about half off. This seems to me an egregious marketing failure. If you're going to offer people an incentive to get on board early, you have to give them more than an alpha release! Users will not be eager to save even half the cost of a piece of software that's as shaky as this version, even when they're eager to believe in the project. I hope that Infinity Data gets its act together, quits making overstatements, extends the special pricing deadline so that users have something more to evaluate than an alpha-presented-as-beta release, and is able to fulfill their promise. The way the company has shoed up to date with this project is hardly confidence building.

Potentially a worthwhile app, but it fails to remember holiday prefs setting. Specifically, holiday days are displayed reversed, and this can get pretty cluttered. User settings give the impression that holidays can be turned off, but the program reverts to showing holidays on system reboot (though oddly, not on program restart during the same session). Developer has failed to respond to requests for support—always a turnoff. Low rating reflects bugginess and developer unresponsiveness. Suggested alternative: MyMenuDate.

A sweet app. One consistent glitch I've found is that any hot corner trigger brings up an unexpected momentary square rectangle in the relevant corner before the expected blue hot corner triangle indicator. Not a big deal, but it is distracting, a bit of aesthetic carelessness that clearly shouldn't be there. Two emails to the developer reporting this bug and explicitly asking that he acknowledge receiving the bug report have gone unanswered—amounting to "no comment" and what appears to be a lack of good breeding. Still, Butler is a useful and versatile enhancement to the GUI that lives up to its press here on MU. Made my donation promptly, and more than asked for, as it seemed like a civilized thing to do. Now if we can only get the developer to be a bit more civilized. . .

A solid and versatile dock utility with a beautiful, clean interface, and it's donation-ware no less. Michael is impressively responsive and serious about developing this app quickly and thoroughly. The new "Clear" option (v.2.2.2) is gorgeous—a great answer to the 2D vs. 3D question. Try this sweet little app, and if you like it as much as I do, be a sport and send a donation (calculated in Euros). The developer is earning it! Highest recommendation.

Unusually shoddy work for a company that otherwise has been diligent and relatively responsible in debugging its releases. This is abysmal, even for a beta. FruitMenu doesn't read its own contents folder, but instead replaces the Apple menu with its own version of the same. Whether this is a failure of FruitMenu or of APE on which it depends is anybody's guess. As it stands, the current "beta" (read "alpha") releases make a good case for avoiding haxies altogether under 10.5 at this time.

This is an excellent utility. I switched from Unsanity's FruitMenu because SunnyMenu allows the user to have the same "corner menu" access, is much more customizable, and doesn't require hacking the OS. The developer is amazingly and consistently responsive, friendly, open-minded, and diligent in fixing reported bugs and posting updated releases. I especially like the user-assigned font option. With the latest release, SunnyMenu seems to have worked out the earlier bugs, and is proving stable and reliable under 10.4. Highly recommended. Grab it now. The price is low for all that the app delivers.
