AARGL  Hummm! At the first try "the application quitted unexpectedly..." while analysing.

The design is very nice and the features seem great, but when an app behaves this way at the first try, especially when dealing with system and apps modifications, I don't give a 2nd try. (using OS 10.4.11)

MACPAW  Can you please send us a report of your problem? We have tested the new version on Tiger, and it worked perfectly.

To send the report you can use the Report Tool located under the Help main menu.

AARGL  Suddenly, yesterday, I've got an error message meaning "impossible to update the list" (really "too many http redirections").

After various tries, I found out that the address of the list has changed:

Now it's https://easylist.adblockplus.org/easylist.txt

instead of http://easylist.adblockplus.org/easylist.txt

But as the "http://" is added automatically, I think there's no way of changing it to "https://"... :-(

Strangely enough, while the auto update gives an error (and so do the "update now" button), if you click the "change..." button and validate without modifying the address, it works! (at less it seems)

Metronome

****.

AARGL  Well, I would like putting a 5 stars for the simplicity of use, the low sensitivity about the overall activity of the computer, but there are only two little issues that avoided it:

- sometimes I've got a message saying that the sound selcted is corrupted, and I have to select it again. (actually the "Cow Bell" sound, chosen as "Bell sound")

- it doesn't start in sync when hitting the space bar

Apart from that, I love it. ;-)

***..

AARGL  Like most computer based metronomes, its time precision is sensitive to the overall activity of the computer (just try to switch apps while playing and you notice it slows down!).

Even if it has some good features, I must say that for this matter "Metronome 1.8.2a" (as for the present version) is more reliable (but it doesn't start directly when you press the space bar, which TapNTune does, and that could be an issue in some situation).

Apart from that, it's fully featured as a metronome.

About the tuner, I'd say that using the integrated mic of my iMac G5 is useless, just like any other competitors I've tried: the needle wriggles in a spastic way. (I suppose it's the mic that gets various rumours and can't deliver an analysable sound)

I haven't tried it with other mics.

JAEMS  Thanks for the review. I'd be interested to hear if you can help the built-in on the iMac through the Mic sensitivity and speed settings.

SkalMac Tuner
Oct 10 2009

AARGL  Have a look at Corporate Newt Tuner! It's about the same principle as SkalMac Tuner BUT for people who tune their guitar differently than standard tuning (for myself, I tune it one tone lower, but it's also perfect for "open-tuners" !), and it can suits the need of any other instrument though you see a guitar picture... ;-)

Of course, as I read in some other review, you need an ear and it's a simple sine wave, but I suppose that it's time to educate your ear if you want to become a musician, uh? ;-D

Bean

AARGL  Waow! Now that it's localized in French, Bean is not far to substitute for old Tex-Edit Plus!

Add the ability to read or import Tex-Edit Plus format (I have, say, 200 Tex-Edit docs and it would be a pain in the arse to open/convert/save to rtf everyone of them... :-(, and I'll switch immediately.

Add a default background color for any white backgrounded document, and I worship you! ;-)

Tri-CATALOG

AARGL  If you never used a former version (3 to 5), you might find this version useful for your purpose, but if you loved the old versions, it looks like you don't use the same app since 6 came out... :-(

I'm still using version 5 for simple cataloguing (any kind of data except for pictures...).

'Versatile' is not the adjective that suits best for this app! ;-)

Bookit
Aug 27 2009

AARGL  Well, while I understand Xenophile, Bookit remains a great app, and I still use it except for Firefox 3 (as a workaround, I've tried Bookdog which GUI is a pain in the arse compared to Bookit, but works with any browser...).

As I don't often use Firefox 3 (Camino is great for common browsing, and now Safari 4 is out with speed and many features you previously only had in its competitors, I don't often feel the need to use Firefox anymore...).

Apple Safari

AARGL  I found the cause and the workaround for the "forever loading" problem:

I have SafariBlock installed (I'm very happy of it!!!), and tried to disable it, but it was the same.

After a while the loading stops and you've got an error messave, you go to the Windows/Activity menu and copy the URL of the unloading files (in my case it was http://www.skyboardmedia.com/i/skyboard_for_footer_on_network.gif, but I suppose it could be anything else).

Provided you have SafariBlock installed, you add manually the URL and the page loads instantly.

For me there was only one site, that I use a lot, causing me this problem with Safari 4.0.3 (and not before).

Sidenote

*****

AARGL  I'm on 10.4.11 and I must say that Sidenote doesn't always appear when I move to the edge of the screen (maybe some conflict with other apps... ???), but with the shortcut it's ok.

My main goal was to find a drawer staying invisible to store in it SMILEYS to integrate in my mails, and it does the job perfectly, so, even if it wasn't intended as its main purpose it's perfect for me!

aMSN

AARGL  Well, reading all those bad reviews, I must say that if you use aMSN as a simple messenger (no video), it's more enjoyable than the original MSN.

But I wonder why bother having trouble with video functions on anything using msn network when Skype works so great on any platform?

The perfect solution I've chosen long ago and that I install for friends asking me: Use aMSN for messaging and Skype for video, it's so easy!

Copernicus

*****

AARGL  Compared to heavy concurrent apps sold at 30$, waooow!

And it does what it says: you shoot, it captures and then you decide to keep it or not and where to save it.

I've used for years the system integrated capture shortcuts or utility, even having tried Snapz & co, because of its integration within OSX, but I’ve got bored of having to go to the desktop and then move my picture to the right place (the Capture utility is not bad, of course but you’ve got some more stuff for free with Copernicus, such as the image browser, so why bother?).

I’m on 10.4.11, so I suppose MOH2O is on Leopard to be so unlucky (or he has some buggy thing installed...).

The only thing I can still dream of would be the ability to launch the region capture (for example) at launch, so you wouldn't even need to have it always running !
