You are right, Photomatix can be difficult for the novice. However, if You search the net You will find several good tuts on its use. Search for the blogs of "stuckincustoms" and "beforethecoffee". These photographers have made terrific tuts on HDR, more specifically HDR with Photomatix.

Furthermore, there are several recent textbooks on HDR by e.g. Christian Bloch, Ferrell McCollough, Michael Freeman.

On the other hand, the manual of Photomatix is rather good. If You read it (and reread it several times), You will understand the different possibilities of this software and how to use the myriad sliders.

ZEUS1  Lots of uninteresting amateur photos. This screensaver is IMHO not to be recommended.

ZEUS1  This version has grown due to the inclusion of several pdfs and foreign language plist files. Version 5.7.4 was 14 MB, and this version weighs in at 50 MB. Tried to trash all these superfluous files, but trashing one results in disappearance of also the English language files.

To the developer: please refrain from this Apple-stratagem (see the iLife programs that do likewise), and provide a tool to only install the necessary files as per the language needed.

ZEUS1  Not only is Milky Way a fast and easy way to review Your photos, but when You click on a multi-page pdf file, it shows the first page of this file in its window, thereby enabling fast recognition of what the pdf is about.

Just try this on a folder with 100+ pdf files with cryptic names...
