CDRevolution

ZENOPOLIS  Thanks for your feedback and support.

I'm hoping to add editable file metadata in version 1.20 and later (which, as a version 1 releases will be a free update to existing customers).

I'm not sure if it is possible to get the album artwork directly from the iTunes store (I'd have to do some research), but if not I could always download it from another service. (Incidentally there is a preference in iTunes that helps a lot regarding adding album covers when adding albums from CDRevolution: under the general tab there is the check-box preference "Automatically download missing album artwork".) I had pencilled in the idea of adding album covers to the archive files, but I'd neglected to consider Leopard's Coverflow feature. I think your right, I'll put this higher on the agenda.

Regarding the naming of archives; I was hoping to add a feature similar to iTunes where the image files are automatically organised into folders by artist. Would that be enough or would you still want to label each archive with "Artist - Album"?

The DVD backup idea is an excellent idea I hadn't considered. To retain fidelity CDRevolution image files are quite large - so you would only get about 10 or so albums per single sided DVD though. I'll add it to my list of things to do.

I'm going to have to do some more investigating before I get back to you on your .cue file suggestion.

Thanks,

David Kennedy of Zenopolis

ZENOPOLIS  CDRevolution is able to create a disk image for audio CDs and then burn a new audio CD from that image. This audio image can then be used to burn a new CD with the same, between track, gap sizes as the original - just as the artist intended.

While Disk Utility can create images of data CDs (including data images of audio CDs), it can not currently create audio images. This means that while you can create a backup of the audio tracks for playing on a computer that recognises aiff files, you can't burn an authentic audio CD that can be played on most standard audio equipment.

For backing up CDs, whether audio or data my aim was to make CDRevolution as simple to use as possible. I think I've gone some of the way to achieving this (but I'm always open to suggestions). For instance, on a machine with two optical drives; CDRevolution just requires a single drop, and a single button click to make a copy. A machine with a single optical drive requires just one extra click.

I suppose the quick answer should be something like: ease of use, and better audio copying.

Thanks,

Dave
