The Simpsons Quote Box | Feb 27 2008 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Well it's about time someone did this. I LOVE it! Thank you. Any way to incorporate the select and copy the quote? That would be VERY handy. Thanks again. :) (Version 1.0)

ImageWell | Dec 19 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN After trying this out and being a Picturesque user, I can heartily say this little program is quite underwhelming. First of all, it is not free, as you have to purchase 'xtra' functionality to make it useable. Second, the user interface is clunky and hard on the eyes. Doing something as simple as adding rounded corners to an image is an exercise in futility. Also, when stacked up against other programs of its ilk, free or otherwise, it's just underwhelming. The final straw would be the 'phoning home' to see if you stole their 'titularly' free software (just use Little Snitch for annoying programs such as this) and the developer's rather rude replies to users (see below). With that being said, even though Picturesque is not free, it is by far a better program in the many functions in which they compete. (Version 3.3.2)

VEGGIEDUDE I don't see this as a image editor. I have Photoshop for that. I see this as a FTP program to quickly put images up for my blog. The fact that it can do some quick on the fly editing is just icing on the cake for me, and I do use them for the web images have to place. But putting rounded corners on images, that's not what anyone usually does for web imagery. Just my 2 cents in a age where the dollar is second fiddle to the euro. (Version 3.4.2)

ZAPP BRANNIGAN It isn't free. It's called cripple-ware. The so-named Xtras are disabled until you purchase a serial number. And most of the Xtras are what give it any sort of usability. So calling it free is a serious misnomer. (Version 3.3.2)

Default Folder X | Dec 12 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Having just bought the 4.0 upgrade I can unequivocally state it is worth the upgrade price. How do you take an already indispensable utility that was great to begin with and make it even better? They somehow managed to do it. With its new interface, features, it has become the open/save dialog that should have shipped with Leopard. If you appreciate apple's QuickLook, you'll love default folder. And if you appreciate elegant, yet functional, design, then DF is a must-have utility. The open/save in OS X has always been its Achilles' heel, but DF has made it at worst tolerable and at best a joy to use. I don't normally buy a lot of shareware, but DF is one utility I've been using since the days of OS 9 and recommend it highly. (Version 4.0)

Apple Safari | Jun 11 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN After right-clicking on any webpage element---image or form field or text---and choosing Inspect Element from the contextual menu, all I can say is WOW. I use this same functionality in Firefox with the firebug extension (which is very good), so to see this now built into Safari is really amazing. Does anyone know if they finally made Safari plugin extensible without having to resort to a third party app like simbl? (Version 3.0b)

Adobe GoLive | Jun 8 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Golive is so far ahead of other apps of its ilk, I was perturbed to see only dreamweaver in the CS3 releases. Now that 9 is here, Adobe has redeemed itself in my eyes. Make no mistake: this is a pro web design app. It's not for the faint of heart, but once you start using it, and mastering it, you'll be hard-pressed to go back to anything else on the market. The secret is not in what you can do with it, but the power under its hood to do the things you want. (Version 9.0)

Adobe GoLive | Jun 8 2007 |
ORION MK. V I love Adobe GoLive. I've been a user since it was GoLive Cyberstudio and I'm actually surprised to see any upgrade after CS3 was released. That said, even with this upgrade, it's quite apparent GoLive isn't long for this world -- despite Adobe's claims --and Adobe's trying very hard to get people to switch to Dreamweaver if you read info at http://www.adobe.com/products/golive/. I think of GoLive less like Freehand -- which Adobe never did one thing with -- but more like PageMaker, which it did modestly upgrade a few times before relegating it to the dustbin. While not a fan of Dreamweaver, I can see the writing's on the wall for me to either adapt to DW or become a 2nd class web developer. (Version 9.0)

Adobe Flash CS4 Professional | May 9 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN I have a Mac Pro (intel) and having moved from using the previous version, and now this one (which is a UB), the speed difference is amazing. Fast. New features are like little nuggets hidden away (they're aren't that many), but you do get AS 3.0 and other doodads. It's biggest 'feature' is support for intel macs, which truly makes a difference. Other than that, I would call this an interim release, other people may view it differently. One thing to do is run fontbook and check your fonts. This is the NUMBER one cause of Flash crashing on startup. If you use special fonts, check those as well before turning them. Duplicate and bad fonts will cause Flash to crash. (Version 1.0)

ZAPP BRANNIGAN What a great little app! Exactly what I was looking for to replace all the other utilities that did one thing or another but not all in one package. And finally, the little tooltips under each possible choice are the icing on the cake. Thank you! (Version 2.2.7)

ZAPP BRANNIGAN I'm so glad someone did a widget for this; I use the rotten tomato's site all the time and to be able to get a quick snapshot of a movie is great, especially when you're about to rent something from netflix. A couple of suggestions is to be able to select whether it's DVD or a still-in-theater movie. Also would be nice is to scroll through the snapshot reviews of the critics (some can be downright hilarious). Even if it's just the spotlighted reviews like they do on the site. Otherwise, quite cool to find this. Thank you. (Version 1.1)

UNO | Mar 24 2007 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Having tried the other 'theme' changers and modifiers, this is without a doubt the most stable theme unifier on the planet. No haxies, APEs, and confusing settings. It's simple to use, no manual is necessary (but help is available), and gives your entire OS X experience a unified look and feel that Apple applies, or rather, doesn't apply to its own apps (just look at iTunes, Aperture, Finder Windows, and the iLife apps to see how willy nilly their appearances have become). Having used this about a year, I can't imagine NOT having it. Since it's not a program, there's no overhead, processor usage (run it once and you're done!), or incompatibilities with other apps. It just works. And it works VERY VERY well. Plus the lack of 'a million themes' you can give your system is actually its greatest feature. Yes, you can customize here and there, but its very simplicity is the true engine behind UNO. (Version 1.5)

FileUtilsCM X | Mar 23 2006 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Just about every CM from this company is a must-have. After using file buddy's contextual menu, and coming across this, I was really impressed. It would be great to be able to copy the path in your chosen style on the fly instead of having to choose between unix, mac, url, etc... Maybe by pressing the option key? So for now I'll use this with the mac setting, and file buddy's with the standard unix style. And if you like this, you'll love their quick access cm even more. This is functionality that the CM-averse coders at apple need to start making standard. (Version 1.6)

| Dec 27 2005 |
ZAPP BRANNIGAN Well, first off, this is not "free" as you have to sign up for hosting service from a third party; second, the $249 is much too steep (at least from my own experience with the demo). Have seen much better iterations of CMS's that are truly free. The install procedure is fairly straightforward, but if you're installing it on your computer and not a third party host, you have to jump through a number of hoops to get it working (otherwise it will choke without telling you why). While it has some "neat" features, there's nothing spectacular that calls for such an outrageously high price. At $99, I'd give it a better rating, but check around for other systems until the price comes down. Nothing in this release made me think, "Wow, I gotta get this." Which is too bad. (Version RC2)
