WHITEROCK  Plugin still does not work in Safari (64 bit mode). The error message when using 64 bit still has not been changed to something useful. To use the plugin with the latest Safari in Snow Leopard you quit Safari, go to the app itself and Get Info then select the checkbox "Open in 32-bit mode". Of course you are losing the benefit of Safari in 64-bit mode.

WHITEROCK  What a joke. These clowns won't even wait until January for their laughable annual tax. There is no reason to upgrade. bye bye StuffIt.

BOINC

WHITEROCK  Beta seems to install but BOINC Manager gives error message:

BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. (Error code -1037)

uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't fix it.

WHITEROCK  Wow. Another annual tax! Affecting myself, that's StuffIt, Photoshop, Toast and, of course, the annual upgrade of OSX. I haven't and won't upgrade. I wish them all bankruptcy in the new year (except Apple).

Previous reviewers have said it all.

Microsoft Office 2008

WHITEROCK  The updater will take minutes to carefully examine all your hard drive contents and then refuse to find the M$ Office folder if it is NOT inside the applications folder provided by the OS X installation. If it is in any other folder, even inside a folder in the Applications folder, it will not find it. What is the "installer" doing, looking at all the hard drive contents?

I hesitate to say Microsoft is spying or installing spyware. Perhaps it's just their well-known inability to program for the Macintosh environment.

MEEGO  This is actually very common behavior. Quite a few updaters fail when their app isn't in /Applications or if it is in a user-created subfolder. If memory serves, even some Apple updaters had this issue (iTunes, FCP).

If you don't want to move your apps every time you update them, you'd be better of leaving your applications where they are.

WHITEROCK  Wow! Another annual tax. Just a mere $2600. (If you're not upgrading.) They never fixed the obvious bugs in CS2 but moved on to CS3. And now CS4. They don't give updates on CS2, so work around the bugs and save an enormous amount of money. They have an opinion of themselves even more inflated than the price.

WHITEROCK  Just another tax. There hasn't been a significant improvement for several years/versions. Perhaps they've fixed a few bugs that should have been fixed for people who actually bought version 12. This is nothing but a money-grab of the uninformed. It's obsolete anyway.

WHITEROCK  SIMBL just put out an update so maybe Acidsearch will be updated soon. OSX 10.5 might be another problem. The author of Acidsearch doesn't accept email so let's hope he knows about SIMBL.

WHITEROCK  Lovely. Another annual $80 tax for StuffIt. No new features, maybe more efficient. Version 11.0 was so bad it trashed older compressed files and crashed while attempting to compress large files.

ORION MK. V  Odd... v11 has worked perfectly for me, but v10 was horrible. I've no intention of upgrading to 12 since it's just really a bug fix and some optimization. That's not worth another $80. I just use .zip instead these days and keep Stuffit for uncompressing .sit and .sitx files I sometimes receive.

iCal via Entourage
May 22 2006
****.

WHITEROCK  Application does the described job perfectly. If, however, you decide Entourage is no longer for you or that Mail has finally evolved enough that you want to use it instead, you're screwed. Software Update won't help. You have to download the combo updater from Apple and open it with third party software such as Pacifist to reinstall iCal. This author should provide an "uninstall" application for iCal via Entourage.
