WELLES I've been trying out video capture apps for use with the new Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro for Mac. It is a USB UVC compliant cam with the auto focus and auto light controls built into the camera on chips. I'm using it with a Mac Pro. Dream Capture is dead simple to use. It captures a fabulous picture. However there needs to be some additional USB/UVC support work to increase the capture frame rate for a camera of this type. It is about 5 fps, the same as PhotoBooth. I don't doubt Dream Capture is excellent with built in iSight cameras but for a Mac Pro the Quickcam Vision Pro is the best available and 5 fps is not really adequate. Potential users should also be aware that Dream Capture only records .mov recordings in the H.264 codec so if your intent is to make YouTube videos or email visual messages to friends, you'll need some serious compression software. Don't get me wrong, the .mov files created are really good. The app is just limited to one feature set but if it is what you need the price is incredibly modest for what you are getting. My one real complaint is that although there is a 'demo' version, it doesn't allow for any recording! In short the 'demo' is useless and I had to purchase the app to find out it isn't that well suited for my circumstances. The modest price is hardly a cause for serious complaint, though.
