I really like the interface of CDFinder, it is powerful, fully customizable, and quickly gets the job one. All I need! Of course, thumbnails of movies would be a nice addition for a future version... (Version 5.5)

WALT9500 Shane, I am really confused about your "really bad interface" remark of CDFinder. CDFinder has an amazing interface, in fact, I personally like it a lot better than the needless eye-candy other apps have. In your comment for CDFinder, you write "Please, no more pop up windows." Yet DiskCatalogMaker uses the exact same approach to windowing that CDFinder does. And does DiskCatalogMaker display the actual thumbnails of photos anywhere, outside the needless Cover Flow gimmick or the tiny Get Info window? CDFinder actually does, and it even has an icon view so you can actually use the thumbnails... And lets not start tlaking about the whole metadata abilities... (Version 6.0b2)

WALT9500 YES! This is incredibly helpful for any developer or supporter who needs to know what is going on with a hard disk, and who changes what and where. The user interface is well done, and has some cool ideas. I love it! (Version 2.6.2)

RapidWeaver | Jul 17 2008 |
WALT9500 Finding a proper rating is pretty hard for RapidWeaver, actually. While it does work as advertised, and gets the job done, it has quite a lot of little issues (the multiple documents bugs, and more). Also, instead of adding needless eye candy for RapidWeaver 4, the developers should have improved reliability and speed. I really hate to see the stupid progress animation while I sit there waiting for RapidWeaver to just save my document!!!!! And some things are plain missing, such as proper table support, and even a Find feature that really works (and not just for the main text of the one current page!!!!!) But again, it can do a lot, and for me, the main reason I have chosen it was the large number of visual attractive themes available, and the ability to handle meta tags properly (important for search engines...). WALT9500 You are so entitled to your opinion, but so am I. The new GUI in CDFinder 5 is MUCH better than 4.7, at least in my opinion. I can now scale the display in any way I want (4.7 only offered three sizes of icons), and I even have an icon view for my thumbnails (neither a feature of 4.7 at all). And the Command-Up short key is avaiable in CDFinder pretty much as long as I use it, at least 4.0. Check out the CDFinder Help... And last but least: did you talk about all this with the excellent support? I have had some very nice experience with them, they are very helpful and were always able to quickly help me. WALT9500 I also use CDFinder for many years now, and I really don't agree to what DDOGGEREL writes. The interface of CDFinder 5 is much sleeker and nicer than ever before, and you can customize the new display much better than before (you can make the lists even much smaller now). Oh, and you use Command-Up to navigate one level up, as I already could in all previous versions... ;-) And if you drag the divider in the main window all the way to the right, the right list will go away and stay away. But quite frankly, I love the fact that CDFinder shows me the content of the selected catalog in the main window already. With the new update to CDFinder 5.1, this becomes even more incredible, and if you ever have the need to finally get to organize your data, CDFinder is the one tool for the job. The new GPS search in CDFinder is very cool, a good reason to finally get a decent GPS device to track where I take my photos... (Version 5.1)

DDOGGEREL You say that you disagree with what I wrote, and yet, when it comes to it, you express no explicit disagreements with any of my substantive complaints. My issue is with wasted space in the headers and with the arrangement of text (interline spacing, indentation, etc). "Sleekness" is not bought at the expense of display efficiency. The closest you came to addressing this issue was the reference to the fact that one can collapse the right pane in the main window. Well, then, in the name of display efficiency, you should defend the fact that this window cannot be resized to a reasonable width (its minimum seems to be around 500 pixels), resulting in: a very large amount of useless space within the window. The additional issue I mentioned is that some key shortcuts were changed. The fact that there is a current shortcut for the one command I mentioned is not grounds for disagreement. The fact that this new shortcut is not listed in the menu next to the command is an additional problem. If, as I suspect, that your disagreement is due to the fact that you actually *like* wasted space in your GUIs, then you should make that clear. (Version 5.1)

DDOGGEREL Thank you for making it clear (if not explicit) that your motivation for posting is simply to defend CDFinder from ANY criticism, regardless of the substantive nature of that criticism. I had in my comment explicitly stated that I consider the app to be best in class, so it would have seemed to be clear that I was not making my criticism lightly or with malice. Considering that you continue to fail to disagree with my complaint, it would appear to be clear that you are specifically in favor of a GUI which unnecessarily wastes large amounts of space. I really have a hard time fathoming the mindset of a person who actually prefers this. As for key shortcuts: unless you are denying that some of these have changed with v5, then you have no grounds for disagreeing with my complaint that they have changed.

WALT9500 Pretty basic at this time, and crashes very often when reading photo previews. Also, the catalog database gets very large quickly, and I hate it when I must create a smart something to perform a simple search... (Version 1.0)

WALT9500 I like this! Easy to install, does what it claims, and makes my navigation life a lot easier. I usually have loads of windows open, and this helps me a lot. Great! And I love that littel assistant that teaches you the first stteps after installation :-) (Version 1.3.1)

WALT9500 Uh, this is extremely basic. New with version 3.0 was the ability to actually see the list of volumes catalogued. Go figure. Others can catalog a LOT more data... (Version 3.2)

ROBERT That's incorrect. You could see the list of volumes cataloged with previous versions, you could also browse them, but 3.0 has made it a lot easier to do so for users... (Version 3.2)

Boinx FotoMagico | Sep 11 2006 |
WALT9500 Quite nice app, although the user interface does still have some shortcomings: - When you delete a picture from the timeline, the scroll will always move to the end - No way to let a music fade in or out - No way to start music later than at the exact beginning of a photo being displayed - doesn't always recognize that a photo is rotated (EOS 350 D), so these photos must be rotated manually, which is tedious - no way to do some quick photo enhancements, like improving contrast or sharpness But all in all it is stable, has a nice looking interface, and offers a lot of nice features. A tad expensive... (Version 1.7)

WALT9500 CDFinder can have comments for catalogs, and even files and folders. You can enter them, sort them, and print and export them. And it reads audio file meta data, too... (Version 2.7)
