VESPERDEM  So did it turn out to be free like the site says? I downloaded this earlier and after running it under Parallels, it asked me for a license code. I'm guessing it's not *FREE* as the site here claims and in fact, it's around $300.

App Store Expense Monitor

VESPERDEM  Your awesome man! Not only did you give us the ability to export the data to a CSV file, but you gave us a better way to look at the applications!

You Rock!

True to my word, I donated $10 to the application development cause. This program is easily worth $10, if not more. Thanks for creating it!

VESPERDEM  Awesome! You put that in, I'll be more than happy to donate some money to your development cause. Add a donation link on your site and I'll use it!

That feature will beat the crap out of using iTunes to "Print too a PDF file" the list of applications, then copy and paste the list to a text file.

Thanks a billion!

VESPERDEM  Any chance you could add a menu item to export the current list of apps and prices to a CSV text file?

I would love to be able to put this data into a spreadsheet or database to have a searchable list of what apps I currently own. I own way more than can fit on my iPhone so that list is super important to me.

Otherwise a great app!

Finder Size & Position Scripts
Feb 9 2009

VESPERDEM  This is a great script, but there is one little problem. It messes up the sidebar size when getting the size of the window so that when I use the script to set the window size, the sidebar shrinks to something smaller than I like.

Is there anyway for the developer to modify the script to handle getting the sidebar size as well?

VESPERDEM  Thanks for the info on www.geonames.org! Turns out that someone has added Manchester in, I found it when I went there and did a search. I couldn't find any place to modify the postal code info for the search though.

Still, I fully understand using it for your program.

I still use the software and it works great for me.

Thanks for responding.

VESPERDEM  FLASH1296: If you find this code so bloated, why don't you put your brain where your mouth is and help the developer out? The code is Open-Source so you should be able to go into his source and clean it up for him.

Personally, I don't understand what the problem is. It's a 14K download. How is this a bloated application?

My only complaint is that the site that is being used for searching postal codes is not very accurate. It doesn't even have my city in it. Manchester, MO is not that small and it's been around for well over 100 years.

CIMM  True, it's not the most accurate database there is but it's free an has a very liberal license. Have a look at www.geonames.org, it's a wiki like system so you can improve the database yourself. This will not only improve ZipCarton but all other services that use GeoNames as well.

It's an open source application with a public domain database as source. That's what I like about it: free and open. If everyone helps a very tiny little bit to improve the database we all get something out of it.

Countdown Browser

PIONEERS!  Indeed. Yes, we know; although it wasn't at the time we started developing. You can also view the show via the MSNBC website, although this works poorly on Mac in our experience (revs the CPU, skips clips, downloads unreliably, etc).

Countdown Browser is just a native tool for pulling flash video clips off the website. Despite other "ports of call" existing, there are some advantages accessing the flash clips using Countdown Browser: you just get the highlights, not the entire show, also the show plays hot from the MSNBC website rather than waiting for the big download (which is usually slow and sometimes unreliable, depending where you are in the world!).

Actually, the app is just a vehicle for developing the underlying technology and infrastructure; we have in mind using it for other work along these lines. Countdown Browser is kind of a concept car! If Macsters find it useful we could expand it to incorporate more video feeds from MSNBC, or even other sites...

Thanks for feedback. Best wishes,

Developers at Pioneering Software

Restart Spaces

VESPERDEM  What are these "common" problems you talk about? I haven't seen any problems with Spaces that I would need to restart the dock for.

I'm really curious as to what others are seeing.

Cisco VPN Client
Nov 19 2007

VESPERDEM  I have also been able to use the prior version of this client. I have issues with it and Leopard where after running VPN Client, Leopard's security settings have changed and I don't know what all have changed.

It's rather annoying really so I just use the Windows version of the client and don't bother with the Mac version.

I haven't tried the Windows version with Parallels yet. I should, it would be interesting to know if that combo would work.

VESPERDEM   I would have liked to see the "characters" you play against have "tells" that are catchable. Something I have found quite useful in the iPod Texas Hold'em game.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the graphics grow up a little bit. They seem a bit 1980's to me.

Mind you, your playing against Abe Lincoln and Dracula, so I shouldn't expect too much.
