I prefer CyberDuck on my home OS X system but I had to use a PC at my last job and resorted to FileZilla for FTP requirements without a hitch.

Type: Hint/TipDate: 10 Apr 2008 16:54http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox#Version_4.0
"On October 13, 2006, Brendan Eich, Mozilla's Chief Technology Officer, wrote about the plans for Mozilla 2, the platform on which Firefox 4.0 is likely to be based. These changes include improving and removing XPCOM APIs, switching to standard C++ features, just-in-time compilation with JavaScript 2 (known as the Tamarin project), tool-time and runtime security checks. It has also been announced that support for the Gopher protocol will be removed by default."
I've tried Firefox 3.0b5 and 4.0 seems just as stable. The only oddity on Wind0ze is that Firefox must be uninstalled for the Minefield betas to work correctly otherwise 3.0 and 4.0 appears to be running fine on my old MDD G4... this being my only litmus test for speed I'm quite happy that it runs faster than 2.0 even with the extensions forced on it via the about:config "hack" and I've been using 4.0 since I ran into it and found out I COULD use the 2.0 extensions successfully.

Type: Hint/TipDate: 2 Apr 2008 00:28Hey guys! I was perusing Mozilla's public download FTP directories and ran across Firefox 4.0 alpha 1. I apologize if it's old news to you but I'm using it right now and it seems fast and stable albeit incompatible with Firefox 2.x add-ons.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2008-04-01-14-mozilla-central/firefox-4.0a1pre.en-US.mac.dmg
I'm looking for some way I heard of to enable the add-ons although they may still act weird if they work at all because I LOVE my adblock... otherwise it's FASTER than 2.x even with adblock, the interface seems like the love-child of Safari and IE7 and I am NOT complaining. You can also search for add-ons without leaving the add-ons window and also has a "Smart Bookmarks" which is a collection of the most visited sites. Anyway, try to back up your prefs first and have it a go!
PEACE!

Type: CommentsDate: 27 Jan 2008 01:39I think this assertion is correct given that this program is listed under the general term of "Religion" rather than "Humor". No doubt a laughable subject to many but absolutely not also to many. Factoring in the "What would The Absolutely All Mighty think about this?" to the 'equation' I'd say that if its utility is relatively educational and the purpose peaceful then there must be no harm in it.
It's a tool (IMHO).

Type: ReviewDate: 30 Aug 2007 19:28Not too many options (only BG color can be changed) but nice and simple, not really a complaint I hope. One thing I noticed after trying to figure this out for awhile is that there seems to be an error in kerning/spacing between sets of time displays; the seconds, further displayed into the thousandths it seems, overlap on every other set so as every two sets of time displays look like an even longer string of changing digits.
Although it delivers in the "cool" factor arena, its utility is further hindered by the speed of rotation—I couldn't really take a passing glance or even sit still for few moments and tell immediately what time it is—this, compounded with the spacing error noted above.
Thanks!

Type: ReviewDate: 14 Aug 2007 09:58I'd originally tried this a very long time ago and wasn't completely pleased with it but decided to give it another go a few months ago and after giving myself time to figure out its utility I've trashed every other messenger app on my computer—save for iChatAV.
The interface is very smooth, seems more polished to me than iChat with options that make this app like the VLC of messenger applications, albeit not as complicated. 'Gone Dark' with the 'Mutation' variant is one of my little brothers' favorite setups. Considering all the options available I have to still give a 5 for Ease-of-Use because a lot is fairly straight forward.
So far I've only used this with my regular AIM and Yahoo! IM accounts as I was never fervent when it came to MSN Messenger or ICQ but I'd recommend this app to anyone looking for a solid IM experience, especially with multiple protocol-using accounts.
Given the dearth of really good software for the Mac in the 90s this app is in a class all on its own! ...and FREE?!
FREE! =) ...please consider donating, though!

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 7 Jun 2007 20:08Stellarium 0.9.0, Universal
2007-06-06, r2229+macosx support
This is the really final release build of Stellarium 0.9.0.
INSTALLATION
1. You need to be running Macosx 10.4, preferably not 10.4.7. Drag the Stellarium.app icon from this .dmg window to your mac, and double click on it there to run it.
2. You don't need anything else for this build, it is all bundled inside.
3. If you had an earlier version of Stellarium set to start in full-screen mode, you want to remove your earlier configuration file. As listed in the Known Issues section, this version of Stellarium does not run very well when started in full-screen mode. Simply move the file:
~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/config.ini
(That is: in your home directory, the Library directory, then the Preferences directory, then the Stellarium directory, the file called "config.ini")
to another location, or to the trash. Stellarium will copy a new config.ini file that starts in windowed mode.
4. An issue with mis-directed shared libraries discovered for the Intel architecture has been resolved.
ADDITIONAL STARS
There are four star catalogs included with the build, and additional star catalogs available from the Stellarium website, the "Extra-data-files" package. Each star catalog file listed there you wish to add to the stars available can be placed in:
~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/stars/default
Up to catalog 6 has been tested on a PPC iBook with 750mb RAM, and there was something of a performance hit. The more RAM and the faster processor you have, the more stars catalogs you will be able to load.
KNOWN ISSUES
0.9.0 right now cannot *start* in full-screen mode. It can start in windowed mode and toggle back and forth to fullscreen mode. This seems to have to do with OpenGL and Qt, and it will be investigated in future releases.
The video mode list of the config screen has no options in it, the switch to Qt has made that display obsolete. It will be resolved later.
About half the time when quitting, Stellarium will crash on glDeleteTextures. It will show a "The application Stellarium quit unexpectedly" dialog. This does not seem to hurt anything, but there is an order of destruction that needs to be corrected in future releases.
ATI cards in Macs are known to not support point sprites properly. If you run Stellarium, but don't see any starts whatsoever, edit ~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/config.ini, add this line:
flag_use_gl_point_sprite = false
to the [projection] section.
This build does not include all possible star catalogs. Details about how to download additional star catalogs separately and make the available to Stellarium will be forthcoming.
There is no audio support in this build.

Type: ReviewDate: 23 Nov 2006 01:11In toe-to-toe comparisons, this has come out above and beyond the professional antivirus programs in detection, new-virus response times and in detection ( http://www.clamav.net/press.html#pagestart ).
There's no beating the price and there's no subscription fee to worry about (yet?). My brother had gotten a laptop about a week ago and I'd, after having to update several "required" components of Windoze, finally got Norton Anti-Virus installed. Then there was the extra headache of finding/downloading/restarting SEVERAL times and quickly noticed how LONNNG it took his laptop to become responsive after boot/reboot with Norton installed... I downloaded ClamAV and it was ready to use after installation and virus def updating-I didn't even have to reboot!
Clam, IMHO, makes other anti-virus programs look more akin to cripple-ware... definitely 5-stars for Features, Ease of Use, Value AND Stability...!!!

I booted my system with Drive 10 1.1.5 instead of Apple's Tiger disc and, after hours and hours and hours, it returned an Error -90 and repaired... for hours and hours (nearly took 2 days!). Finally, it was done, I rebooted, ran Disk Utility and Repaired Permissions in my admin/501 account and root to no avail.
I'm going to attempt using Apple's boot disc to see if anything else can be done before attempting an archive and install... I hate having to do Archive & Installs... but it's better than an entire reinstall... or waiting for another Security Update :p

I have to give "Ease of Use" the full five stars because, even upon first configuring the mapping interface, you realize that most of the buttons are preset to be immediately used in most of the widely used audio/video end-user applications. While the same can't be said of the button assignment [process] when adding a new set for a new program, I think it goes without saying that the programs usable vary quite widely in relative design so, having said that, the interface, while seemingly unintuitive at a glance, is actually quite useful insofar as the wide range of uses for the DMR. The up side of this is that you'll rarely interface with this aspect of the software's GUI.
All-in-all; a straight-forward program/software suite(?).

Type: ReviewDate: 16 Apr 2006 23:20Alright, I just HAD to give this a "3" in the features department.
First of all, with some CFG editing, I was able to get this running as fast as Doom 3 runs on my 1GHz MDD G4/1GB RAM/Radeon 9800Pro GPU. Please note that without that GPU I would NOT attempt to buy/run this game OR Doom 3!
Second, whether unfortunately or not, I had to compare this to Doom 3 as well as Quake 2 (from which the storyline continues). Insofar as the Quake series goes it's not that much more exciting than Quake 2 was on my old BlueG3 (which ran rather well with the Rage128 but better with a flashed Voodoo3 5500 PCI, albeit with banded lightmapping) but the graphics have been upgraded to take advantage of the latest technologies. This is where Features falls short: it's not memorably better than Quake 2 (especially with its online playability and awesome old MODs like Action Quake 2!) and Doom 3 does a much better job in setting the player in an environment where he/she feels that great attention has been paid to detail to the point where one may actually feel startled or frightened and otherwise enveloped in the game— Quake 4 falls a bit short of this. Sure there are things that you may see that may be described as looking technologically "awesome"... but I still feel a bit detached from the game.
That being said, I can't say I'm not having fun playing it. The weaponry is varied but you'll have a difficult time deciding which is really your favorite as there is not one that does/gives(?) that maximum amount of damage with a short amount of burst rounds where I might say; "Oh crap! THIS is my gun!" The rail gun proves difficult to aim and having to reload after just three shots is quite annoying where only a few guys may need to be liquidated and you spend half the time reloading.
The play is pretty linear, more or less like its predecessor (in storyline), and getting stuck trying to find my way to procede can be frustrating as I soon discover that I was supposed to be looking for some well-placed rabbit hole... err, vent. This was done in Doom 3 as well but the placing seemed to be a bit more intuitive with where one had to go...
Okay, I'll sum it up: if you like shooters and already have 'em all, get Quake 4. If you want to show off the graphic capabilities of your new system and already have Doom 3, UT 2004 and Halo, get Quake 4. If you just feel like it, get it... if you're tight on money this is NOT a must-get.
Out of five, if there was an Overall rating, I'd give this a 3 1/2.

For one: anti-aliasing does not enable no matter what I do.
Second: The fonts that display correctly (including antialiasing) in NeoOffice revert to another font [in OpenOffice 1.x/2.x) even though font replacement is not enabled. I have a fine serif font and it's replaced with what looks like Helvetica which makes the document look even more disgusting.
I'd love to use this application because it's more responsive than NeoOffice (2.x not 1.x) but if my documents look this disgusting no matter how I change the settings then, quite unfortunately, I have to trash OpenOffice. <:(

A safer option is to edit Apple's CPU fan kernel extension's Property List fan table to speed up to higher RPMs at lower temperatures— CHUD tools or not I never run above 119°F with my settings.
Here's more info (it's a Google-cached page since the original doesn't seem to be up anymore):

BTW- I've a MDD G4 as well and this works perfectly...

Type: Hint/TipDate: 7 Feb 2006 12:48Have you attempted reinstalling it? All Adobe CS/CS2 apps along with QuarkXPress (as far as I know) require a plugin for third party font management (I use LinotypeFontXplorer).
Give it a try and I hope it works.

Maybe the files should be made available as a separate download or available via P2P...

Type: ReviewDate: 31 Dec 2005 07:44Excellent drivers! Finally the Mouse Up/Down buttons on the right side can be reassigned!
These drivers offer on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment which can be viewed on-screen and configuration of your Razer Pro mouse well beyond those built in to OS X (it's specifically for the Razer|PRO mouse but works *perfectly* with my equivalently set up Razer Diamondback).
A couple of polished/clever design features are the little test areas for double click speed and scroll speed– the double click speed tester has a slight response delay, I believe, because of the audio that plays as well as the graphic animating.
The only drawback to these excellent and appreciated drivers, it seems, is that buttons left unassigned do not revert to their pre-destined OS X function– they're disabled unless assigned a keystroke. This can be cumbersome for applications where you may have to reassign/reconfigure all those controls (ie; games) and a bit more cumbersome for applications that simply rely on having a three-button mouse setup (ie; Maya, X Windows, etc.).
I'd like to find a workaround (there are no readme's included in the download) to this shortcoming... :P

Type: Hint/TipDate: 30 Dec 2005 23:09Run Disk Permission Repair (using Apple's Disk Utility in /Applications/Utilities/) then try again.
If this doesn't help, attempt to post a more detailed error report (what steps do you go through and where do you encounter errors?) either here or macfixitforums.com

Type: CommentsDate: 21 Dec 2005 00:45Thanks for the heads up! That's VERY important for people to know.
Do you think it's a problem with the installer or the way the installer was utilized (ie; can the installer be configurated to recognize/work around symlinks)?
Thanks.

Type: Hint/TipDate: 20 Dec 2005 21:14Roxio states that Internet Explorer should not be used to download the update– I'm saying "Don't use Firefox, either." using Firefox you'll get a [VERY annoying] fowarding goosechase.
Safari works fine, though... :P

Type: CommentsDate: 17 Dec 2005 02:42Very cool... I just get annoyed by the design of the installer to launch Safari after the installation rather than respecting the user's browser preference.
