TOXICTHREE I agree.... I have a valid copy of the Office suite, but lost the discs and documentation when I had to move suddenly a year ago. I load this update and it suddenly says I have an invalid key!! Got no help (no surprise) from MS and none of the fixes I have read about worked. I now have a 800MB piece of crap on my machine and no way to rejuvenate it. I'm keeping it in case I can find a fix in the future, but I'm more than just disenchanted at this point. (Version 12.2)

The Unarchiver | Jan 7 2009 |
TOXICTHREE I have the same problem, but it doesn't freeze, just gives me one of two different "not possible"-type error notes. I use unRAR for files with a password, which works just fine but is a little less user-friendly. I really do wish that Unarchiver could handle those, though. It's much easier to use, and it does ASK for a password! (Version 1.6.1)

TOXICTHREE Yay!!! They fixed the special-characters bug that was introduced in 7.7.0... Having as many artists and songs using special characters and them turning to gibberish when I played the songs (or imported them, by the way!) was really a major problem. I still can't believe nobody noticed that at Apple before they released it, but at least it's fixed now. (Version 7.7.1)

Pando | Apr 12 2007 |
TOXICTHREE I don't know.... The last 4 versions of Pando still completely crash every time I open them, no matter how I delete the application support and preference files, and now going back to 1.0.0.2 doesn't even work!!! Using 10.3.9. Maybe it's just not compatible with Panther anymore. If so, shame on you! (As of version 1.5.5.2, it DOES work again on my Tiger machines...) (Version 1.5.5.3)

TOXICTHREE I just love this... I'm also loving the other stuff Karlheinz Essl has on his website (http://www.essl.at/sounds.html). This particular piece does indeed sound like Brian Eno, particularly - of course - his Clock of the Long Now album, which is also made entirely with bells (available at http://www.longnow.org/shop/prints-cds/bells-cd.php). One interesting fact, though. The previous version - 1.1-UB - worked fine on my machine that's still running Panther. This new one just hung and apparently is just for Tiger. Works great on my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8! Check this one out! (Version 1.2)

FinderPop | Apr 11 2006 |
TOXICTHREE I'm SOOOOO glad to see this back! Just found out about it today. My favourite utility for OS9, always. One comment, though... I can't seem to get it to move files from my desktop direcly to folders put into "FinderPop Items" anymore, but this could be a conflict with my FruitMenu, which I find equally indispensable. Anyone else experiencing this?? Regardless, hooray for Turly!!! (Version 1.9.9)

CHRISTOPHER REED This is an amazing thing if you have broadband. I use it in conjunction with BackLight to continually change the desktop as I work. I find that putting names of cities around the world in it, along with National Geographic's website, NASA, etc, produces an endlessly fascinating - if occasionally irrelevant - streat of images flowing past. Tropical beaches works, too, if you like that sort of scenery... Great app!!!! (Version 1.3.1)

Panther Unzip | Jul 27 2005 |
CHRIS REED This is a wonderful tool for those of us who use (and need) Stuffit products on our machines. I'm in graphics and am often sent InDesign and Quark 6 files with fonts collected and then zipped using Apple's built-in archiver in OSX. The problem is that once you've installed the Stuffit Deluxe package on your machine, it makes it impossible (apparently) to use Apple's finder de-archiver to open up Zip files and you lose the resource forks in Mac Classic (TrueType and Type 1) fonts, making them utterly useless! Now when I know a zip file is archived on a Mac OSX system, I use this utility and - voila! - all the file types and fonts are preserved again... Thanks so much!!! (Version 1.0)

Adobe InDesign CS4 | Jun 17 2005 |
CHRIS REED I have worked in the typesetting, graphics and printing industries for 21 years now. At present, I work for a small but technologically savvy graphics and imagesetting house and am in constant contact with designers and printers of all stripes and sizes, so I'm at a loss to say why people are so hung up on QuarkXPress still... It hasn't really improved or advanced measurably since version 4.1 (which is probably the most deservedly successful and ubiquitous piece of graphics software in history), it's just about as slow on a G4 as InDesign can be - and with far less reason, as it doesn't have half the features - and their customer service is still condescending, if not downright rude and arrogant. Why am I, over this past year, receiving by now almost as many InDesign files as Quark ones from my clients, eh? The answer is simple: Quark's hubris and unwarranted sense of entitlement has backfired at last and people are wisely going with a cheaper and much more flexible product! I'm not at all crazy about these Big-Brother-ish "activation" schemes that appear to be the wave of the future, as I personally have THREE Mac G4 production machines in different locations that I use independently of one another and I can not now put my copy of these programmes where I often need to use them, but suffice it to say that InDesign is quite obviously here to stay and that Quark, like it or lump it, is rapidly - and understandably - becoming a thing of the soon-to-be-distant past. NONA Maybe they are mired in QuarkXpress because many of their previous documents (and client's projects) are in Quarkxpress? Then they just have to make a few changes, rather than rack their brains recompositioning a new, 40 page prospectus report only to discover they need relink some tiffs. Face it, Indesign is a better "PDF" beast because of, its Adobe (Adomination). But Quark is entrenched. I understand Quark 7.0 is on the way now. I wonder if its Cocoa or native OS X coded? I understand Photoshop CS 1, 2, ... are just bandaided and not native code. So much for Adobe... (Version 4.0.1)

It is in large the same comment, but he did add some info, which I think is relevant, and more so he gave his name. (see belove) According to his use of language, punctuation and sentence construction I say he did not, nor have ever, "hit his head" in any serious manner. How is life treating you then, Dude? ;-) Lets try to be civilised and at least a bit kind to each outher. We might end up with quite a nice would :-) "I have worked in the typesetting, graphics and printing industries for 21 years now. At present, ... but technologically savvy" (Version 4.0.3)

TOXICTHREE I have had iTunes 4.7.1 and GraphicConverter both quit on launch repeatedly and more often than not with this new version. AOL as well did it twice... I'm going back to 3.2 until this is all resolved, which I'm sure it will be... (Version 3.3.1)

TOXIC Worked beautifully under 10.2, but the lossless rotation command causes the Finder to quit under 10.3.X on three different machines of mine. Pity! Such a fine piece of work. Hopefully they'll update it for Panther one of these days. Five stars for Jaguar users, though! (Version 1.0)

CHRIS For an XP emulation, it's very well implemented, and I agree it looks BETTER than actual XP GUI, but for God's sake, WHY?? Tex-Edit Plus X | Jan 14 2004 |
TOXIC What can I say? I've been using this programme since I was labouring in System 7.5 and it's never ceased to amaze me with the amount and quality of it's features. Being in graphics, I usually use page layout apps for much of my work, but would rather not use a full, clunky word processing programme to edit type and apply certain kinds of styling in passing, not to mention cleaning up email, etc., and this app has always done everything I need exquisitely... Congratulations on what must be, along with GraphicConverter, one of the only essentially perfect apps for Mac... Kudos, and my gratitude! (Version 4.6b2)

CHRIS REED Stunningly useful and elegant! Not to mention very useful for a graphics person such as myself who often has technologically-challenged clients to satisfy with proofing formats. I mean, having to convert a PDF to a JPEG merely because your customer is leery of anything Adobe is remarkably silly, but it happens. This makes the conversion to JPEG an almost instantaneous event. Has (obviously) many other useful functions, too... Thank you for making it free, but I would definitely shell out $20 for something this comprehensive. Does as advertised, does it well and with no fuss at all. If only all software were this perfect! (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS Fantastic! I, too, have been getting the "12:00 as 1:00" bug, which is obtrusive for me as I usually watch my TV late at night while on my iMac, but as the developer promises to fix that I have no compunction about naming this my favourite not-totally-necessary utility of the year so far! Thanks a heap, and keep up the good work! XOX (Version 1.0b1)

CHRISPY Fabulous (and that's a "baby's first fabulous," coming from me as it does...)!! MP4 format is indeed terrific, making me wish viciously for and MP3 disk player that would handle the files. Oh, well, they will come! And, "Anonymous," I have a feeling that the lower sound output is actually a lower pre-amp setting, as the distortion of loud tracks when using the equalisation and augmentation has been reduced to nil. I had to turn down the pre-amp setting in the equalisation pane before... The only caveat is that I had to keep version 3.0.1 around so I could burn MP3 CDs to my outboard drive, which is a functionality I hope returns in version 4.0.1!!! Keep me pleased, Apple! ;-) (Version 4.0)
