TOURNESOL Absolutely awsome! I have tried several Noise filters with Aperture now. This one is the best. Reduces noise dramatically, with minimal changes to details, color or contrast in image. The interface is very nice and fast to work with - especially compared to Noise Ninja. Highly recommended. Unlike Noise ninja the trial is fully working, so it wont embed any watermarks. The Auto feature is also great when you just want the job done quickly. Almost never any need to fiddle with any of the adjustments. Great! (Version 2.103)

J-A-X Aperture and TIme Machine still have problems as far as I can tell. If you leave Aperture running, Time Machine will completely ignore it (and not even inform you) and will not backup the Aperture library. Also if you make a minor change in Aperture (Editing one photo), time machine will backup the ENTIRE library again (which can be time consuming if you have a large library like I do). iPhoto on the other hand works well with TIme Machine. If you edit only one photo in iPhoto, Time Machine backs up only that one change rather than the entire library. Furthermore, Time Machine will backup your iPhoto library, even when iPhoto is running. (Version 2.0)

Apple iWeb | Oct 24 2007 |
TOURNESOL I guess the iWeb team has listened to costumers about the very cryptic URLs in iWeb 06, but the change they have made in iWeb 08, to compensate for that, is just to simplified. The URL of subpages made with iWeb 08 will now be called exactly the same as what you call that subpage - the name that also shows in your navigation menu. That is a very big problem, because I'm from Denmark I use the danish characters æ, ø and å in my webpage titles, and you can guess what happens when æ, ø or å is included in the URL. No Windows IE users can see that page. Ex. my daughters 1 year birthday is named '1 års fødselsdag' (1 year birthday) and when that show up in the URL as www.mypage.dk/1_års_fødselsdag.html no one except Safari users will be able to see that page. I then name the page something like '365 dage' (365 days) because then it will work and most people will know what that page is about, but it shouldn't have to to be like that. So please Apple, at least make iWeb 08 change URLs that contain less compatible characters that wont work in most peoples browsers. Otherwise I have to come up with really obscure titles for my subpages, because I can't just call them what I want to. (Version 2.0.2)

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS I don't care how MANY updates there are as long as one of them FIXES existing problems introduced in the rush to get out 7.3. Most specifically, corrupt libraries, crashes on startup or during library updating, and rampant memory gobbling. Long desired core features such as separate shuffle settings per playlist, skip to next / previous album. It would also be great to have missing AppleScript functions finally implemented like working skip to next chapter, fetching podcast chapter art, control of airtunes speaker settings, podcast release dates, and much else. But I agree with the basic sentiment here -- deal with the long standing gaps and recently introduced nightmarish bugs before piling on more new features. (Version 7.4)

MARSVIOLET I have owned Aperture since version 1.0 and have been using it on the same hardware as you, and it finally has gotten to the point where I don't want to use it anymore. The eye-opener for me was finally giving iPhoto a try for the first time and discovering how much faster and more pleasurable it is to use than Aperture. Smart Albums in iPhoto are instantaneous. In Aperture, Smart Albums take forever to open, and frequently cause a spinning beachball. And the whole app is like that. It's powerful, but an unbelievably lethargic old dog on a hot day to use. And I have found it to be quite counter-intuitive in a lot of ways. Very disappointing. After three years advocating shooting RAW and using apps such as Camera Raw and Aperture to complicate my life, I have finally come to the realization that RAW is a huge waste of time for very little tangible benefit, and that apps like Aperture, Lightroom and Camera Raw are a needless category of software with little reason to exist except for the highly anal retentive control freak in all of us. There's a highly sophisticated RAW processing program built into your camera that works instantaneously, functions flawlessly, and requires no user interaction. Take advantage of it. Shoot JPEG, and get on with life. (Version 1.5.1)
