TONY AGUILA Using AppDelete to remove Opera and all associated files (preferences, caches) and installing a new copy, it is now launching from within the Applications folder. However, it still won't start when invoked from Safari (Develop->Open Page With). However, it is highly unstable. A number of links that work perfectly in other browsers cause Opera to unexpectedly quit. I also installed this on my MacBookPro and did not experience the Applications folder anomaly, but the instability problem was even worse. I cannot consider this version usable by any means. One other reason why I cannot use this on a regular basis is its lack of support for 1Password. (Version 10.10.6790)

TONY AGUILA Though not my primary browser, I have always had a copy of Opera installed on my Mac. This particular version exhibits a very bizarre behavior. It will NOT launch when the application is located in the Applications folder. If I move it to the desktop, it will launch properly—be it by double-click, open from the Finder menu, or Open Page With from Safari's Develop menu. I have also found one particular link (a redirect to YouTube) which crashes Opera (100% repeatable), while that link works fine in Safari and Firefox. My system: MacPro3,1; 6 gibibytes RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.2 (build 10C540) with 64-bit kernel and extensions. (Version 10.10.6790)

Yes, same here, this is the first time I can see such behavior, weird... (Version 10.10.6790)

BRUCEG I have a similar on my G4 with mirror front running 10.5.8. Opera will not open from and external drive. I copied to the Desktop and it seemed to open properly. I then move it to the Applications folder on my boot drive and it also seemed to open properly. Don't no why it will not open from the external drive since other older versions did open. VEGGIEDUDE Same here. Opera refused to boot-up, then I read your comment. I put it on the desktop and now it runs. I then quit it and put it back into the applications folder and it now seems to work fine. (Version 10.10.6790)

TONY AGUILA The built-in Check for Updates... function does not work, not even on this latest version--tried it on several machines. Good thing that I have MacUpdate alerts. (Version 1.7.4)

Adobe Illustrator CS4 | Dec 12 2008 |
TONY AGUILA What is this? Version 1.0? Illustrator CS4 is version 14.0.0 as installed. It does not look like this is a patch to the current version. I wish they would make it clear if this is a trial version or a real patch/update. The same goes for the other modules of CS4. (Version 1.0)

TONY AGUILA I think this is the first time that FAP gave the user the choice to selectively install auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe Creative Suite (all versions), as well as QuarkXpress, the first time you run it. Not sure if it will persist with the dialog if you choose not to install the first time. Very convenient. I am gratified that even before this update, they made plug-ins available for Adobe CS4, and this updated version is now even quicker with auto-activation in InDesign. Illustrator is still slow to react, but there is no more need to close and reopen the document. I own and have used ALL of the other font management programs out there, and still maintain my licenses, but FAP is definitely my first choice for managing my 7,000+ font library. The only problem discovered so far is that the update deleted all the names of my font sets. Fortunately, the contents seem to have been unaffected. My long-time gripe remains. When running Font Player, you cannot pause it. Whenever you stop/pause, it will have to start from the very beginning (or very end) of the set. Thus the reason for 4 stars for features. SHAWNYQ I believe .sitx is a copyrighted format and cannot be legally opened by other programs. So, you're stuck with Stuffit Expander until they give up their copyrights, or go under. (Version 1.1)

TONY AGUILA I'm not writing this to promote or lambaste someone else's product. This product looked promising from the positives reviews on another site. I am considering a switch to another server application and have concerns about converting/migrating the mailboxes from my present server. I sent them an email with this querybut it has been about a week now and have not received a reply. If they don't pay attention to inquiries from a potential customer, I wonder how they treat their present customers. Not encouraging at all... (Version 3.6.3)

Ukelele | Jun 1 2006 |
TONY AGUILA This has nothing to do with any shortcoming on the part of Ukelele, but I want to point out that there are a number of programs out there, notably the Adobe creative suite, that do not work correctly with XML keyboard layouts (which is what Ukelele creates). I end up still using my original customized Dvorak layout (pre-OS X keyboard suitcase). The reason I have been working with XML keyboard files and Ukelele is my concern that one of these days, Apple might decide to drop support for keyboard resource files (.rsrc) which would put me in a very difficult position. QuarkXPress | May 23 2006 |
TONY AGUILA I logged into their online store and the update choices are either WIN or PMAC. Does this mean the current version is not Universal Binary? I am testing the beta version now and it is indeed Universal Binary but "PMAC" makes me suspect that the shipping copy is not (yet). If it really is UB, then Quark has a great headstart on Adobe which won't have the UB version of InDesign for another half year or so. The last beta version, by the way, is very stable. They also need to improve the online store interface. The email address they have on record for me is incorrect but I can't find any way of correcting it. (Version 7.0)

QuarkXPress | May 23 2006 |
Now JK is talking about Intel Mac. Quark is shipping Power PC and Windows today, with Intel Mac as a free update for QuarkXPress 7 owners this summer. Apparently it’s nearly finished… Jürgen revealed that all the demos he did, and all of the iMacs out in the hands-on room here, are on the Universal Application version. I also had to edit my customer info and the site is a little clunky. I did manage though and I ordered the upgrade. (Version 7.0)
