Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware | Feb 19 2008 |
TOMNIBUS Of course, no update for the first generation macBook pro (17") that has this same problem. I'm so darn sick of apple abandoning products when they come out with a revision, especially 6 months after the first comes out. (Version 1.0)

TOMNIBUS I hate the fact that I have a rev A of the MacBook Pro 17". I know, early adopter. But this really sucks that rev B comes out and now there are never ANY updates for mine. Every time there are firmware updates, updates like this and anything else for hardware my machine never gets the update because it was obsolete 6 months after being released. (Version 1.2)

GORDON142 Firmware updates just fix problems, they don't add new features. Apple releases firmware update even to models that were discontinued years ago if there is a specific issue for which an update is needed. Why do you think your firmware needs an update? (Version 1.2)

ESPIRIT God cry more. I have a 2.33 C2D 15" which is going on 11 months old, and now even the lowly macbook has a higher RAM capacity and is cheaply configurable with much larger HD's AND has a faster FSB! Its how technology works. If you, today, bought a brand new, top of the line, 2.6GHz 17" MBP with the higher resolution display, etc etc you would be saying the exact same thing 6 months from now! Be happy with what you have. If it isn't enough for you, then sell it and buy a new one. If you can't, then read the sentence before last again. And like the others said, being "left out" is a good thing in this case. Firmware updates like this aren't just for fun, they are fixing problems with the current revision. Why would you WANT problems which needed fixing? If there aren't any issues, you should be glad and snicker at the wait-and-see'ers who have had issues which make updates such as this necessary. PETER DA SILVA This isn't about "waah, my laptop's not bleeding edge any more". It's about "my laptop's not getting supported any more". I also have the original Macbook Pro, and there are issues with the graphics and stability. Could they be fixed by firmware changes, or by software changes? I don't know, but it's unlikely they're going to be. (Version 1.2)

LINKSTER82 Actually, no on several counts. The fact that Apple is not releasing new firmware updates for your revision A 17" neither means it is no longer "bleeding edge", nor does it mean that apple is no longer supporting it. It means that there are no known issues that blanket the revision (a few anomalous computers with issues does not mean the whole revision is bad, therefore requiring a fix) and therefore nothing to fix. you should be happy there are no firmware updates because that means they finally got it right. (Version 1.1)

Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro Software Update | Dec 18 2007 |
LINKSTER82 also, as long as you can call into apple and they don't tell you your computer is no longer supported, it's supported. chances are, if it can run the latest version of the operating system, it's supported. (Version 1.1)

TOMNIBUS Yeah, thanks for responding! Yes, I checked the site and saw that now. :-D I just purchased the product on october 1 so I'm looking forward to the upgrade. I also applied for the beta program but I could also wait for version 5. Hopefully it will be soon. (Version 4.9.3)

http://www.equinux.com/us/products/support.html?pid=2 and click on the link there that asks the question "Are your products compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)?" "VPN Tracker 4 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), and due to fundamental changes in the operating system, we will not be able to patch this version. However, we have just entered the beta phase for VPN Tracker 5, and intend to invite a couple of current users of VPN Tracker 4 to test the new version. If you're interested in using VPN Tracker 5 on Leopard (or on any other supported system), please apply at this website." (Version 4.9.3)

TOMNIBUS I just LOVE this little app. Unfortunately, Leopard broke it. Well, it does still work but there is an error code that appears with every launch. Once you click "OK" and enter the ssh key (doesn't seem to save it in the keychain properly) it works fine. (Version 1.3)
