TOMANDERSEN  One more thing - Yep looks for PDFs only in the tracking locations that you set in the prefs - is it possible that your tracking locations are set so that most of your PDFs are not included? --Tom

TOMANDERSEN  We developed Yep to track roughly that many PDFs. I have personally tried it with about 30k PDFs. Remember that Yep does not 'import' anything. It just keeps track of the PDF that are on your computer.

You might also want to try Leap out. It will track more files than Yep, and you can make it so that it only looks at PDFs, if you want.

Please contact support with problems like this. We can supply individual support. ironicsupport@gmail.com

TOMANDERSEN  Tom here - one of the developers. The feedback that Ronald John has left simply does not happen for the almost everyone. Although no software is without bugs, we would not leave a problem like this unfixed. The slowness that he is encountering is due to a log file being written to at 'full blast' by Leap or possibly the spotlight engine. If anyone has a similar problem, please contact us at ironicsupport@gmail.com, as we can't seem to replicate this problem here.

TOMANDERSEN  We have upped the requirements to a G5. It also runs better and faster the more you use it, especially on a Tiger machine. Leopard runs Leap faster than Tiger. There will be some performance improvements as we go to 1.x. We want to put Leap up against the Finder, Bridge, iView multimedia and win.

It is likely that you have a corrupt PDF on your system. Usually Yep can point that out for you, when you restart it after a crash.

You might want to try Leap, and pick PDF documents, and see if that works better for you. Perhaps you can find the corrupt PDF.

Hope this helps,

TOMANDERSEN  Tom, The developer here.

The thumbnails of the PDFs are stored in the same volume as the PDFs themselves, so if you can see the thumbnails, you can also see the PDFs. This is not really a security issue any more than the fact that all of your email is also stored in your home account, etc. For instance Safari has a cache of all internet sites that you have recently visited in that same folder.

If anyone has more questions on this, please contact us via the contact page on our web site.

TOMANDERSEN  Thanks for the feedback on price. We are looking at the 'pro' market with Leap. Leap is not a 'Finder on steroids', it is more a different way to look at files. We are beta testing everything now, including the price. If you are curious, please check it out regardless of price. We will be giving away some copies to our 'best' beta testers.

TOMANDERSEN  Leap stores the tags in a database file. We have found Spotlight comments to not scale well, and are fragile - they can be lost during hard drive copies, etc. File attributes are much the same. We are planning for 1.1 to support Spotlight comments as a way to get tags in and out of Leap. Also, you can export all your tags as an html table now.

TOMANDERSEN  We are indeed working on a product that will track web archives (and html and word docs, etc - anything). Look for a beta in a few weeks. Note that current owners and buyers of Yep will also get a copy of our 'new thing'.

TOMANDERSEN  We have tried to duplicate the bug, but are unable to here. Please provide more details to us so we can resolve the issue.

1.5.2 includes a new command to import metadata from 1.2 or 1.5 databases.
