About Tichicus
I have been a Mac user for over 20 years, back in my student days working with Mac Plus and 20MB Rodime hard drives. How things have changed but some things are still the same, Apple Macs are still the best computers in the world.

TICHICUS  This widget leads to the website of the Born Again Christianity group: http://www.born-again-christian.info/aboutus.htm.

Some MacUpdate users will find this website helpful but many more will find the views expressed on this website disturbing. I would suggest that you might like to visit their web site and decide for yourself.

Having done so, you may you wish to remove their widget from your computer, which is what I did. If you don't know how to remove a widget you can read the instructions from Apple at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302240

TUISHIMI  Ummmmm... ratings should probably be based on the functionality of the widget and personal religious views not really be a part of it.

If you had perhaps said something like "This widget does nothing more than list summaries of blog entries that bring you to a website when clicked," I could see a reason for a low rating, since there are hundreds of widgets like that, created from examples provided by Apple.

GAOSHAN  Thanks for the warning. I, for one, appreciate it and will certainly not use this thing because of it.

Bible Sander
Jun 24 2006
*****

TICHICUS  If you need to copy passages of the Bible for use in Powerpoint or for your Church activities, and don't own have a Bible software package, or don't have the translation you want to use, then Bible Sander might be just what you are looking for.

BibleSander works with the biblegateway website. (www.biblegateway.com) where you can access a whole range of Bible translations in different languages without having to own a license to use them. However, obviously you need to be online to use it.

The strength of this application is that to have the same facility in any of the major Bible software packages such as the Online Bible or Accordance Bible Software would be very expensive.

Using Bible Sander is simple. You access the biblegateway website, type in the passage you need, and copy and paste it into Bible Sander.

Bible Sander then formats and outputs this passage all ready for use in your word processor, presentation or publishing software. Because it is dependant on the biblegateway website, BibleSander dosen't give you the many additional benefits which a good Bible Software application will give you, but if your bible software needs are basic, then BibleSander might be just the job.

At $9.95 (or £5.50) Bible Sander is inexpensive and it may be the answer to your prayers.

DesktopCalendar Pro
Jun 14 2006
****.

TICHICUS  DeskTop Calendar Pro is a ideal application for the home user who wants to create all kinds of calendars. It comes with a large selection of vector clip art and layout templates.

If you want to quickly produce a calendar for your college, church, club or school, and print this at home, then DeskTop Calendar Pro will create a calendar for you with a minimum of fuss.

However, DeskTop Calendar Pro has some serious limitations for the serious user.

The most obvious of which is that there is no export facility within the application itself. If you are using OSX this is not a problem as from the print dialog box, you can print to pdf and eps and export your calendar to other applications this way.

Some users will also find some of the clip art and templates to be disappointing.

I found that the best way to get good results from DeskTop Calendar Pro is to start with a blank page. Create your calendar, under the Page menu, then import your graphics or vector illustrations using the File Menu and the Import Graphics option. You'll find that you get much better results that way.

The ability to change the design style of the calendar modules you create in DeskTop Calendar Pro is limited, but using DeskTop Calendar Pro's application preferences you can overcome some of those.

Nor does DeskTop Calendar Pro allow you to create a calendar in the European format, where the week starts with a Monday and ends with a Sunday and for some European user, this will be a serious drawback.

If you want to design your own calendars, its worth checking out 'Mom's Calendar,' (available from MacUpdate) This is an excellent free calendar creation and a likeable and much cleaner interface than DeskTop Calendar Pro and without the naff graphics.

If you use Adobe InDesign, its worth checking out the free calendar script from the Scriptbuilders web site. (http://scriptbuilders.net)

This will gives you the flexibility of calendar format of USA v European formats, that currently DeskTop Calendar Pro dosen't offer. You can also edit it and if you already use InDesign, then check this out. I didn't manage to find a similar free utility for QuarkXpress.

Go to http://scriptbuilders.net and in the Search ScriptBuilders type dialog box type in calendar and you will find the InDesign Calendar script there.

DeskTop Calendar Pro is a good application and offers a great range of clip art libraries. It will ceate virtually any kind of calendar you want without breaking the bank. If you can live with its drawbacks it will serve you well.

TICHICUS  You will find a map to be very useful when playing Ottomatic. You can download one for each level, as part of the Ottomatic Strategy Guide from MacWorld via Pangea's Ottmatic support web page. You will also find a couple of cheats there, which will help you complete Ottomatic.

TICHICUS  Otto Matic is a highly entertaining game and is great for kids. If you are a Pangea games fan, you will immediately notice the family resemblance, that of absorbing gameplay, with great graphics and sound. I cheated a bit to keep my health levels high. My children thought the game was great fun, and even my 11 year old battle hardened playstation veteran, scoffed at first and then couldn't stop playing it. Who says that you need hard and graphic action to keep children absorbed.

OK so you've got big headed space monsters, lethal bouncing tomatoes and dangerous jellies and lots more nasties, but we won't worry about them! Make no mistake, this is a great family game.

Seriously if you have broadband and you want to buy this game, it's makes much better sense to download the full version of this game from Pangea and then buy a serial number to unlock it than buy it boxed. I saved an amazing £20 by buying the game this way. At $19.95 or just over £10 pounds sterling, it makes great value. I highly recommended this game.

Pixel Fix
Mar 30 2006
*****

TICHICUS  It wasn't a major problem, but I noticed a few lazy pixels on my new LG Flatron monitor. I thought I was going to have to live with it, but when I read about Pixel Fix in MacUpdate, I thought I'd download and try it.

Pixel Fix is an excellent dashboard utility which within seconds, fixed my monitor.

Afer downloading and installing Pixel Fix onto your Mac, all you do is move the coloured square with your mouse over the area where your lazy pixels are, and leave to run. Hey presto, a few seconds later, its fixed.

One very minor comment would be that even though its fairly obvious how to use Pixel Fix, a read me guide might prove useful for inexperienced Mac users.

Thanks so much Widgetaria, for fixing my screen.

PlayVideoTS
Dec 19 2005
*****

TICHICUS  There are no doubt several other ways of playing DVD files but what PlayVideoTS makes it all so easy. Rip the DVD using an application such as MacTheRipper. Then rename (or keep the existing name) but add to its name .dvdvideo. Next time, you double click on this new icon, Apple DVD launches and plays your converted DVD. In simplicity lies genius. (The icon is the only flaky bit of the whole thing)

If you are so inclined, do have a twiddle with this and a tweak with that but I'd much rather use PlayVideoTS, relax and enjoy the movie.
