TESSERACT SOFTWARE I don't have Snow Leopard yet, and I have been unable to reproduce the problem on Leopard. However, I looked around on the internet, and it seems that there is a bug in the version of Flash which ships with Snow Leopard that can cause your mouse to disappear. They specifically mention this happening with Photoshop and with Safari. Because FVD2 uses WebKit (Safari) and Flash, I am guessing that this is the cause of the problem. The solution that they give is to upgrade to the latest version of Flash. You can get it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer Please let me know if this works. (Version 2.1.3)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE Hulu takes many precautions to prevent users from downloading its videos because they are copyrighted. If users start downloading Hulu videos, then the video suppliers (Fox, NBC, etc) will begin taking down videos from Hulu, which is something that nobody wants. I have no plans to try to get FVD2 to work with Hulu because I don't want to ruin Hulu. Besides, downloading copyrighted videos is illegal, and I will not purposefully allow FVD2 to download copyrighted videos. (Version 2.1.3)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE The reason that website is not working is because its actually not using flash videos. That site is using a "fancy" portal written in mostly flash and the videos are actually in flash (which is, confusingly, not the same thing as flash videos). Flash videos have a .flv extension and the videos on that site are actually videos embedded in a flash file, which is .swf Unfortunatly, there is nothing that I can do to change that. TESSERACT SOFTWARE I looked at BBC's iPlayer site. They only allow users from the UK to view their videos, so I can't even test if FVD2 works on their site or not. (It is against their licensing agreement and Terms of Usage stuff for users outside of the UK to view their videos so using a work-around would be a violation) And, if they have DRM, as you suggest they might, FVD2 is not able to decrypt DRM and I'm certain that doing so would also be a violation of their Terms of Usage. I'd rather not get into any "grey areas" of the law. (Version 2.0.4)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE Scrivens tip from the previous reply is for if your computer is shutting down after you finish downloading video(s). From what I understand, its shutting down when you start the application? For now, we can try a workaround (which will also help me to figure out what is happening). 1. Open a program such as TextEdit and create a new document 2. Write some text (anything) in the document but don't save it 3. Open Flash Video Downloader 2. If it tries to shut down the computer the proper way, TextEdit should ask you if you want to save the document before you quit. 4. Click the cancel button and OS X should tell you that the shutdown was interrupted. Does that happen? Or does it shutdown anyways? I'm not sure what could be causing Flash Video Downloader 2 to shutdown your computer on startup, it can only do it when finishing a download, and it uses an applescript command which can be interrupted as described above. You can use the above as a workaround, if it works. If not, please do the following 1. Open Flash Video Downloader 2 (which will shutdown the computer if you're having this issue). 2. Turn the computer back on and open the Console application ( It's in the Applications/Utilities folder) 3. Click show Log List and a list of logs will be shown on the left side of the window (it may already be there) 5. Then go to File->Save A Copy As... 6. Save a copy of your all messages log (its a .log file) somewhere (e.g. your desktop) 7. Please attach that .log file to an email and send it to tesseractsoftware[at]gmail.com (do NOT post it in this reply on macupdate) This will hopefully allow me to see any messages that came up from Flash Video Downloader 2, your computer, or some other application before it shuts down. It will give me more insight into what is happening right before your computer shuts down. I hope that we can figure this out. (Version 2.0.1)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.1 and I can't duplicate your issue. When it immediately shuts down, do you mean the computer all of a sudden is off, or do you mean that the OS does the shutdown procedure? You could try downloading Flash Video Downloader 2 again and installing it again. Perhaps it somehow got corrupted. (Version 2.0)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE Google Video and Dailymotion must have recently made some changes to their websites and for the moment are not working correctly with Flash Video Downloader. As I have mentioned, FVD queries http://videodownloader.net to find the FLV file to download. As a result, if videodownloader.net cannot download a file, than neither can FVD. I've double checked and videodownloader.net cannot download Google Video or Dailymotion. I just send videodownloader.net an email telling them that these two sites are not working anymore, and hopefully they will fix it soon. (Version 1.3.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE You don't have to hunt down the video url in safari's window. In fact, I'm pretty sure that doing so will not work (but I could be wrong). The url that you are supposed to put into FVD is the one from the address bar. For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfP90uJ12eQ (Version 1.3.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE Mr. Ash, if you are having trouble downloading a video you should try emailing me or posting a "trouble" not a "review" because it is possible that you did something wrong, that there is something wrong with the site you are trying to get the videos from, that the site you tried is not supported, etc. Also, the error message is not "invalid site", its "Error: The url is either invalid or not supported". My guess is that the website that you were trying to download videos from is not supported. Please email me (tesseractsoftware[at]gmail.com) or reply to this post with the url's that you are having trouble with and I'll try to figure out what went wrong. (Version 1.3.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE What I meant was that you can't open a browser and just type in "http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/24373/FlashVideoDownloader.dmg". It will redirect you to "http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24373". It looked like the user undisclosed.undisclosed had some problem downloading my app because of some redirect thing or something. My guess is that he/she is blocking his/her referrer in the browser so he can't get to the download. Although, I could be completly wrong, I don't know how MacUpdate is set up. :) (Version 1.3.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me , or what program that output is from. It looks like you are trying to download the file from some other program directly. From what I understand, MacUpdate does not allow direct linking, and will re-direct you to the info page if you try to do so. However, you may have figured out why some people are having trouble downloading it: perhaps it is because the dmg has spaces in it, I'll try re-uploading it without spaces in the name. TESSERACT SOFTWARE You're absolutely right. I forgot that Perian could play flv files. I don't think that there will be another version of Flash Video Downloader until Flash Video Downloader 2 is released (which I'm currently working on). I'll be sure to include that in FVD2. (Also, remember that those screenshots are from v1.0 and some things have changed since then.) FVD2 will be much better than FVD 1.3.1. It's being completely re-written and won't be using a third party website to figure out where the flv file is, plus it should work with alot more websites. However, I've got finals to study for, so it may be a few weeks before I can do a lot more work on FVD2. (Version 1.3.1)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE The settings are not designed to be saved, so there is nothing to fix. You always wouldn't want those settings to save; for example, if you told the computer to shut down when finished, you probably don't want that to happen everytime and you might forget to uncheck it. There are only a few options anyways so it only takes about 2 seconds to fill out. (Version 1.3)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE kewego.fr is not a supported website. Flash Video Downloader queries the website videodownloader.net to figure out where to get the file to download. So, if videodownloader.net cannot download the file (which on their website they don't list kewego.fr as being supported) then Flash Video Downloader cannot download the file. I suggest that you email videodownloader.net and ask them to add support for kewego.fr (Version 1.3)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE 1. The settings are not supposed to save after you quit. I'm not entirely sure how to do this, and I don't think its really necessary because theres only a few options which you might want to change frequently anyways. 2. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this. Flash Video Downloader will attempt to download the videos of the URLS in the list and save them as whatever names you give them in the name column. You can change the name by double clicking it. You can remove a URL by selecting it and clicking the "-" button (minus button). 3. The preferences menu option is supposed to be disabled; you set your preferences in the Settings Tab. (Version 1.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE I believe that I have mentioned this before. The progress bar is for the total progress of all of the downloads and not for each individual download. TESSERACT SOFTWARE If you were getting an AppleScript Error (probably when trying to add a URL) the reason is because you need AppleScript 1.10 which is installed with Mac OS X 10.4 so I have updated the System Requirements accordingly. TESSERACT SOFTWARE I think that I have used an AppleScript command that is only available in AppleScript version 1.10 or later (but Apple's website is not very clear about this). It would be helpful if you could tell me what version of AppleScript you have. You can do this by opening Script Editor (located in /Applications/AppleScript/), paste the following 2 lines of code and click run: set theVersion to AppleScript's version as string display dialog theVersion It should open a dialog window that says the applescript version that you have. If you could tell me what version it says, it would be very helpful in solving the problem you are having. You can reply here or email me at tesseractsoftware[at]gmail[dot]com. (Version 1.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE I believe that I have fixed all known bugs and problems (including the problem that many of you were having with Growl). I have uploaded version 1.2 to my website and I have submitted it to macupdate who should update this page soon. The file that macupdate is linking to is where I uploaded version 1.2 so you don't have to wait for macupdate to update this page to get the new version; just click the Download Now button and you'll get version 1.2. Version 1.2 can also tell you when there is a newer version available and some other bug fixes. (Version 1.2)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE For all of you who are having the problem where the program asks for GrowlHelperApp, I have figured out why this is happening and I think I know a way to fix it (the problem is related to the way that AppleScript handles the tell command). I will fix this problem later this morning (3/16/07) and update the program to version 1.2. Version 1.2 will also be able to tell you when there is a newer version (which should hopefully not be soon after 1.2). I'm sorry for releasing 1.0 and 1.1 with these bugs: I should have done a lot more testing of the program than I initially did. (Version 1.1)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE Growl is not required to run the program. If Growl is not running, then the options in the Settings Tab that relate to Growl will be greyed out, if Growl is running then they will be active and can be checked. Growl is optional. I have tried running the program while Growl was not running, and it worked exactly how I described above. You mentioned that you are using OS X 3.9, its possible that the code that I used to check if Growl is running does not work properly on 3.9. I have re-written that code in a more compatible way. Once I fix a few other bugs, I'll release version 1.01 which should fix your problem. (Version 1.0)

TESSERACT SOFTWARE I'm looking into the problems you guys are having. It appears that http://videodownloader.net is having bandwidth issues or some other connection problem (videodownloader.net is the site that my program queries to find the flash file). This may be the cause of the those of you who said that it just didn't download anything for you. I'll try to figure out a solution to this sometime today (or at least have the program tell you if the site is not working), so check back later for an updated version. But I imagine that once videodownloader.net is running smoothly again, there will be no problems. Darrel, it checks if Growl is running and if its not, it just disabled the Growl options in the settings tab. I just tested this and I can't seem to recreate your error. It should not halt the program if it doesn't see Growl, I'm not sure what to tell you. NeonBlue2, I cannot recreate that error. However, I from what I can gather, error -10660 is somehow related to incorrect permissions. You might want to try checking your disk for incorrect permissions. (Version 1.0)
