Edit for Aperture
Jul 15 2008

TSANTEE  This is a bundle of 13 plug-ins that also are available individually (mostly $70 each). The appeal is for people who don't want to leave Aperture to do advanced photo treatments. I'm comfortable with my workflow of sending images from Aperture to Photoshop (for which I've purchased more than its cost in plugins).

TSANTEE  If I hadn't been introduced to PulpMotion through the MU promo I probably wouldn't have taken an interest in the new advanced version. In my opinion that's a good thing. In addition, the savings the developer is providing previous license holders is about equal to what was paid for the entire MU promo package. That's an even better thing. They also emailed me with an better deal for those who purchase the upgrade in the first two weeks of release. I give them a pat on the back.

Picturesque

****.

TSANTEE  I was impressed with version 1 but it didn't have enough going on to get me to buy a license. I'm pleased they have added to Picturesque so I bought the version 2 license. It is a snap to use and very elegant. I'd like the cropping feature to allow specific measurements so I won't be using it for cropping. Reflections with the 3D tilt don't look right to me so I probably won't use them together. Otherwise it's easy, fun, creative and fast.

PulpMotion Advanced

TSANTEE  I've had what's now called PulpMotion Standard for some time and have only gone through the tutorials. But when I saw this new version I couldn't resist buying it at the upgrade price. I've only had it a few hours so I have no experience other than seeing that it launches. What sold me is the regions feature which you can see in a demo movie on the developer's site. The themes are much more elegant than with the standard version, too.

I'm disappointed that the license I bought only allows personal use of the application and that I must buy a commercial license if I want to use it on a project for a client. If someone doesn't plan to some day use it commercially I'm uncertain there's a good-enough reason to spend this much upgrading from the standard version. I can afford it just for the fun of experimenting and showing off, but spending much time with it ultimately needs to lead to some billable work.

HIRO34F  Hi,

This is clearly an unwanted mistake from us that we'll rectify in the next release. Buying PulpMotion Advanced DOES grant you a licence for commercial use.

Best regards,

Popcorn

TSANTEE  I don't know the answer to your question but Popcorn 3 now allows pausing encoding. This is from Popcorn 3 Getting Started Guide:

"Encoding can be paused at any time to free up the CPU for other tasks and then resumed later. When encoding is paused, you can run other applications or even switch to another user account as long as Popcorn remains open. If you close the Popcorn application, even when video encoding is paused, you must restart the process from the beginning."

I suggest raising your question on Roxio's Popcorn 3 forum.

TSANTEE  Popcorn 3.0.1 works fine with my EyeTV 250 files. Did you use the Popcorn Media Browser to access your EyeTV files?

By the way, I notice that my Turbo.264 is automatically accessed for all the h.264-related export presets except the one titled H.264 Player.

This version seems to me to be a huge improvement over Popcorn 2; particularly that it now encodes and authors video DVDs and does batch processing.
