SYR WULLAM  Now, that's an interesting way to express one's gratitude for a free application.

SYR WULLAM  Same annoying problem here (running 10.5.6 on my MBP early 2008); this definitely needs to be fixed in the next release. It would also be great to have a nifty feature that Saft has been offering for ages: the sorting of items within nested bookmark folders. Therefore: Glims gets 4.5 stars for 1.0b15.

Thanks bunches to the developers!

Ad Subtract

SYR WULLAM  Ooops, I forgot about my last comment. Ad Subtract Automatic has for some months now been working on my MBP (Leo 10.5.6). Some hiccups here and there but otherwise I'm quite satisfied with the results. Thanks to the developers!

SYR WULLAM  MainMenu does the same for free.

Oh, and one more thing: programmers may want to check out the package contents of this app ... very interesting.

Recover PDF Password
Feb 26 2009

SYR WULLAM  I disagree.

I work with hundreds of pdf files on a daily basis and I often have to use applications like PDFKey Pro. Recover PDF Password goes farther than PDFKey Pro but it does not mean that either developer would approve the use of their work for "illegal" purposes.

Your point can be easily twisted to say that e.g. hex editors should not be listed here because they can also be used to perform "illegal" actions on applications. And you would not say that, would you?

Or do you believe that encryption software or network/admin tools like Nmap or KisMAC should have no place here simply because they could get into malevolent hands?

C'mon.

SYR WULLAM  I don't get it. 20 bucks for something that you can get for free? Onyx, MainMenu, CLIX and a bunch of others are excellent software that can do all this and more. I would be grateful to know why one should pick this one over its free counterparts.

SYR WULLAM  Isn't it curious that this company releases two apps on the same day and neither of them works? Isn't it curious that they want you to register a _free_ product? So, who's the registrant of their website?

http://www.downloadjunction.com/company/store/13310/site.html

"Domain Name: AIRGRAB.COM

Isn't it strange that a quick Google search reveals nothing about Sergey Lebedev AND Intelus? But here's the funny thing: there's a _deceased_ computer scientist by that name:

Admins, don't you want to double check these guys?

SYR WULLAM  Would the developer be so kind as to tell us why their application needs to be registered if it's free?

Thanks in advance for the info.

SYR WULLAM  Some features from the developer's website:

- It works with any kind of plain text files (text, source code, HTML, ...).

^^^ Ahh, cool! Smultron, TextWrangler, etc. does that ... for free!

- You can open recently opened files.

^^^ Really? ROFL!

- You can scroll forward and backward through all opened windows.

^^^ C'mon! ROFL!

- You can reload files from disk at any time.

^^^ Is that a unique feature with a text editor?!

- It has an unlimited number of undo.

^^^ No kidding!

- You can select the default font and default font size of the editor.

^^^ Erm, LOL! Smultron, etc. ... see above.

- You can select the default foreground color and default background color of the editor.

^^^ Great! I expected something like this for my money. Smultron, etc. ... see above.

- You can print your documents.

^^^ This is simply priceless!

And so on, and so forth. Welcome to the world of AlphaOmega products. Thanks but no thanks, I will stay with .

SYR WULLAM  No, no account is required. And yes, you will see some ads at the top of your browser screen ... unless, of course, you use some decent ad blocking application, which is exactly what I do.

Otherwise you are absolutely right: AnchorFree should provide prospective users with a lot more information. Let's hope that they will.

SYR WULLAM  Is this project dead? It would be a pity, because this stylesheet solves most (!) of my ad issues. The reason I can't give it five stars is that it's not been updated since last December. Too bad. :-(

Cocktail
May 5 2005

HUNGARIAN MAC USER  The developer is NOT anonymous. See Rixstep page, where Cocktail review has been published. Btw, I'm the anonymous poster who provided links to Rixstep's pages here. And no, I'm NOT the developer of CLIX, nor am I affiliated with Rixstep. (MacUpdate stuff can verify this by checking my IP.)

Rixstep developers have published a number of reviews of apps on their website. Yes, they are sarcastic. Yes, they do try to push their own product(s). However ...

... however, the real questions is whether it is true what they claim or not. My answer is: Yes. Read the review of Cocktail on their site.

Conclusion: Cocktail is nothing else than an expensive and badly programmed GUI for free Unix utilities that ship with OS X.

RETROGAZER  It is a cool language, indeed -- as a native speaker I can just confirm it. ;-) Congratz to iJoe & team for this little gem of an app.

One simple comment: for some reason, "bullshit" is pronounced by the app as "bull's hit" -- should be corrected, imho.

IJOE  Hi,

Thanks for your comment. :-)

We actually used AppleScript & Apple's MacinTalk technology for speaking phrases. So we cannot correct these kinds of bugs. It's az OS specific error.

(Try the word: "louver" - pronounced strange, too)

Best regards,

iJoe

ANONYMOUS  There are two Help menus and when clicking on the rightmost one I am taken to Help Center but find no OnyX related stuff there. Clicking on the other Help menu takes you again to Help Center and voila ... OnyX help is there. Should be corrected in the next version. Anyway, nice app, I use it a lot and never had problems with it.
