STEVERB511  "This is as good as flash is bad." The problem isn't really that Flash is bad, its developers/designers/managers who use it badly. I've had to fend off customers and managers from time-to-time who want to use it as "beads for the natives" rather than just using it where its animation and programming features are appropriate for the content. Flash is a tool that can be used for evil or good -- designers and managers need to be more educated and judicious in its use. ClickToFlash helps deal with evil part. Hear that Flashkit.com? (And many others.)

STEVERB511  MAC912374, I think you've let your emotions get the best of you because you're still missing the point of some of these comments so I'll try to reiterate what I said before this laste time and a little differently. (I'm pretty busy and rarely participate in these sort of discussions but you sound overly stressed.) Over the past 35+ years I've worked in aerospace engineering, air warfare analysis, software development, and web design and development. In all of these areas I've noted that the initial the presentation of a product can very much color peoples' opinions of it and the degree to which they are willing to give it a chance -- regardless of the ultimate quality of the content or performance of the product itself. Just because we think the world should operate absolutely objectively such as products standing on soley their own merits, doesn't mean it does. (That's why so much time and money is spent on marketing.) The comments both for and against the name and icon of your software may help give you ideas on how to get more people to give it a chance to prove itself, if you're interested in doing so, and that's all they amount to.

You seem to think that such comments are attacks on you and the quality of your product. (Yes, some could be more diplomatically worded but that's what happens when dealing with large groups of people with different perspectives. I've seen much more harshly worded and less warranted comments in other reviews and infinitely worse in the areas that I've worked in when politics and large egos became involved.) However, if you re-read these comments objectively you will find they are neither. If people were really intent on discrediting you and trashing your software, as you seem to think, they would also be giving your software negative ratings not just comments on a couple of aspects. How many of these people have given A-Cownts a low rating?

By reacting to these comments as you have you are only hurting yourself. I hope for your sake you begin to understand some of these things as you become more experienced in software development and in life. I'll end my involvement in this discussion by wishing you the best in your current efforts and those in the future. Steve

STEVERB511  People providing you feedback on the initial presentation of your product (name and icon) are giving you useful marketing information. There's always going to be a diversity of opinion on such things and its good to know where the audience's opinion stands. From experience I know that WANDERER's statement is very much "in focus" and, in the case of this application, I am in agreement with him. Who wants to "hear his opinion?" You do if you are concerned with being a professional. (That doesn't mean you have to agree.)

On the other hand, your response to WANDERER needs to be reconsidered if you want to do business in the real world. It comes across as very emotional, defensive, and misses the point. This type of reaction will never serve you well. You would have been better off saying something like, "thank you for your opinion, it will be considered," or to not respond at all. This is not intended as a put down (I've had to learn from similar mistakes) but if you intend to make offerings to the public it will help both your reputation and your blood pressure if you view feedback as just information and then act it or not based on your own goals. Hope this helps.

STEVERB511  Thanks for the suggestion. Rich. iSnip became unusable for me with 10.5.7 and ClipMenu seems to be a good replacement.

Task Timer
May 6 2009
*****

STEVERB511  I am remiss in rating software unless I find something that I really like. Task Timer 4 is one such application and I'm so pleased with it that I'm posting this review at a number of software download sites that I use.

For a number of years I've been looking for time-tracking software that fits my work environment: interruptions interrupting interruptions. (I work for a Navy IT organization.) I've evaluated about 25 to 30 time-tracking applications and when I recently downloaded and started testing Task Timer 4 it soon replaced the application that I had been getting by with since about 2005. (Up until now I hadn't found anything else I was satisfied with.)

I need to track all my time and when the dust settles I often have to go back and reconstruct the different things I did over large blocks of time. With its Projects and Events views and features like adding, splitting, joining, and duplicating events, Task Timer has made this very easy for me to to do. Its ability to run timers concurrently or only one at a time is nice too.

Its ability to view events for a particular day, month, or even year is very helpful when tracking the history of various issues or projects. The reporting feature is easy to use and, with its filters,is very customizable. This is saving me quite a bit of time on weekly timesheets and dealing with project issues. Along these lines its export features are pretty nice but it took me a little time to to realize that they need to be used via the Reports->Report Manager.

Over all, I found this to be a very enjoyable, intuitive, and easy to use application that I started out just evaluating and found that it became very integral to my workflow before I realized it.

The one problem that I did have was that the Navy does not allow Macs to be connected to its NMCI network so when I attempted to activate Task Timer I ran into the problem of not having an internet connection. I contacted the developer by email yesterday morning and before I left work that evening he had a new version of Task Timer that provided an alternate activation method. That is support that definitely exceeded my expectations.

STEVERB511  Does this version support DoD Certificates and Common Access Cards (CAC)with the DoD Configuration plug-in? I had to go back to Firefox 2 because Firefox 3 always crashed when going to our https sites.
