MailTags | Oct 13 2009 |
I purchased MailTags February 2008. I really never got to incorporate it (fully) into my workflow. I used the keyword feature, but not the other features. Obviously, this is on me. Snow Leopard's actual cost is much more than advertised. So far, I've paid several upgrade fees for apps that I've owned a year or less. (I digress.) That said, IMHO you make a great app. It's obvious you put a great deal of work into it. You deserve to be compensated. I'm not one of those people who thinks software should be free or I should have infinite updates for free.

Sticky Windows | Aug 28 2009 |
SIGIL This is from their website: "Snow Leopard status... Sticky Window does not currently work in SnowLeopard. We need to rewrite a significant portion of the code base to make it compatible with Snow Leopard. Sticky Window relays on a hack of the Dock which is made significantly harder (really not viable). It is going to take time and we cannot estimate the length of the development time, given we don't have a workaround yet... however we are doing our best! And we love Sticky Windows as much as you do!" So, we just have to wait. =) (Version 2.4.1)

DOOBIEXX Yep, definitely not fun waiting but I can't wait just for this app to move on to snow leopard. Most other software has already been made compatable so although I am sure it is hard, it's going to happen eventually. Instance of an app relying on the dock is "quay," They had a fix within a couple days... Sticky windows must be much much harder though as it's obviously taking a lot of time for the dev to release a version. I am satisfied knowing that he is working on it and not abandoning a great essential application, so I am much appreciation for him taking on the huge hurdle. (Version 2.4.1)

FruitMenu | Aug 10 2009 |
SIGIL I value this app a lot, but it still causes a a glitch with iPaste. It causes iPaste's contextual commands to be listed more than once. When I remove Fruitmenu the other 2-5 instances of "iPaste" and "iPaste Recent" are removed. Anyone have any solutions? (Version 3.7.3)

Dictate | Jun 30 2009 |
SIGIL Sadly, I must agree with BigCloits' review of Macspeech Dictate. It has not even come close to living up to my expectation or the hype it received before it was released. With each upgrade I became less and less hopeful that they would fix the bugs and accuracy issues. Then I get an email with nearly as much hype as the prerelease hype. I became somewhat hopeful. Then I read that I would be charged $50.00, which is a "special" rate for suckers....I mean previous owners. I find it very upsetting that they would charge an upgrade fee for 1.5. This is compounded by the fact that 1.5 seemed to have some serious issues from what I've read online. In the end, I've decided not to to invest anymore money in this product. I have no issues with an upgrade fee for a product, but the product before the upgrade should be useable and somewhat live up to my expectations. (Version 1.5.2)

I must say I like it a lot. However, I wish it had the "Someday" option (like Things) listed in it's Ht Lists. I think it would be nice to have non-scheduled items listed with the Hot Lists (Today and Upcoming). That said, I think it is a great app. I look forward to the iPhone app. (Version 0.9.3.10)

DiskWarrior | Nov 17 2008 |
SIGIL It's overpriced and overrated. DW has a horrible upgrade system. I bought DW earlier this year. It was quite troublesome to upgrade/create a new Disk. It did finally work. However, I purchased a new iMac last month and neither my original disk or new bootable disk works on it. I was told that I have to purchase a new disk. This seems unfair and feels like a con... You buy something that initially works or seems like a great deal and later you have to make payments for it to work. In January, I'll be buying a new Macbook Pro. So, will I need to buy a new disk then too? I agonized over the decision to buy Disk Warrior or TechTool Deluxe or Drive Genius 2... It's obvious I failed...I rather gave that 100.00 bucks to either of the other two competitors. If anyone want's to buy my Disk Warrior 4 make me an offer. (Version 4.1.1)

RICKDUDE DiskWarrior's web site is uninformative, and I was left under the impression that I was going to have to pay full upgrade price to go from my version 4 CD to the version 4 DVD to start up my new-ish Intel Mac (NOT the newest ones launched in October 2008; I bought in September 2008). I was getting ready to say goodbye to DiskWarrior, after using it for a number of years. But I emailed their Customer Service just to make sure, and in their (very prompt) reply they said that, although the web site (even the ordering system) says the upgrade price is $49.95, once they have confirmed that you're an owner of version 4, they lower the price to $12.95 plus shipping. It's a pity they don't make this more obvious. Alsoft does seem to be at odds with the times but it seems clear they're not the gougers some of us had suspected. I've no way of knowing whether this is true, but perhaps they're a small company spending all their time working on the software, raising their heads only when an email comes in from a customer, or something along those lines. In any case, as the owner of a few Macs, it's my experience that it's always best to have the latest version of DW at hand. Note that 4.1.1 does seem to be pretty fast, too. (Version 4.1.1)

DiskWarrior | Dec 2 2008 |
Wait till you are really in the need for a professional disc repair tool, - than try all the other apps you've mentioned, and I'm sure you will be thankful for DiskWarrior then, - as I am. DiskWarrior is neither overpriced nor overrated, it is worth every single penny. (Version 4.1.1)

DiskWarrior | Dec 25 2008 |
RICKDUDE An update on my earlier comment: I went ahead and ordered the upgrade on November 19th. It was shipped on December 2nd, and arrived here in Japan about two weeks after that; that's about a month from order to receipt. People not in the US might want to get the upgrade now rather than wait until they actually need it! The price (upgrading from a Version 4 CD) was $12.95 plus $8.95 s&h, as Alsoft had promised. It's now on DVD and way faster than before. Apparently it works with all Macs except those introduced in October 2008. (Version 4.1.1)

SIGIL I purchased this crap last month, because of the recommendation at Apple Downloads.I was forced to force quit this application several times. Additionally, it dumped all of my data. I rarely used it. I tried to be patient in hopes that an update would fix the bugs. I will assume that version 2.0 is better, but that is a big assumption. I wouldn't know, because even though I purchased it last month my code is invalid for the latest update, which states it fixes various bugs. Unless you want to force quit or stare at the sphere of swirling colors. STAY AWAY! it's cheaper than the other, but you pay for what you get. Oh and no contextual menu! (Version 2.0a)

SIGIL I'm a new Mac User (2005). I debated buying this app for quite sometime. I must say that I am very happy with it. Its become more valuable than I anticipated. I find more and more uses for it. On several occasions, I was going to either buy or download (freeware) software and discovered that I didn't have to. SD5 could do the job. It performs very well and it's stable. I've bought several apps that were unstable, but I was not told this. So, I have to wait for an update. If I request a refund, they try to resell me the buggy product with the promise of a "fix" coming soon. Soon proves to longer than one would think. I found the customer service to be responsive and courteous. I definitely love the .Mac integration and the speed boost I get on downloads. I'm still exploring it, so I may comment later.
