SHRALLDAM The best solution is to stick with the English version. I've made my choice a long time ago, and I've found that the English version is as easy to use than a localized one (in French, in my situation). Of course, Parallels' language support could be better (at least different versions could be synchronized, or they could wait a bit before releasing the updates - even if the English version is already finished)… But with the English version you're always up-to-date. If you can afford the application and Parallels Tools (within Windows) not being in your natural speaking language… (Version 5.0.9344)

A Better Finder Rename | Nov 24 2009 |
SHRALLDAM The developer reacts quickly when he finds an issue. If he considers the issue was important enough to need a patch, what's wrong with that? Besides, Sparkle is included in ABFR, so the update is a really smooth process. Blaming developers for updating their software, that's the joke! (Version 8.42)

A Better Finder Rename | Oct 28 2009 |
SHRALLDAM Sometimes, when you need to rename files that have already a number sequence in their names, that order doesn't necessarily reflect what the right order should be (for example, a "file006" that should be "file004" instead). Because ABFR uses the default alphabetical and incremental order to display files in the list before they are renamed, there's actually no way to decide that number 6 should become number 4, and vice versa. Should you decide that this picture comes before this other picture, for example, you won't be able to do it. Or maybe am I unaware of the process to do it? (Version 8.36)

SHRALLDAM I have the same exact problem. Being able to reorganize the list before applying the changes would be a terrific feature. This "issue" put aside, ABFR is a wonderful product and very valuable. (Version 8.33)

SHRALLDAM The best you can do for your site is to have really nice-looking stuff to put in it. If your work seduces people, they'll spread the word about it and you'll get more and more visitors. You can also add keywords inside the tag of your pages to make them indexed by Google (or other search engines) more quickly and efficiently. To be honest, you have to develop your graphical taste. When you tell me that you're already using Iconfactory and such as your references, I find it hard to believe when I see what you're doing. You really have to pay attention to all the little details designers put into their icons. You must get your visitors to feel that your work is real art: a tight association of graphical taste and design software mastery. For that, you need to be interested by everything where art is a concern. Be curious, watch things closely and don't be discouraged if only one icon is spending many hours to get done. Designing icons is like jewel crafting and is an activity that needs care and patience. Don't be too obsessed by making your site "public" right now: take your time, add more and more content as you evolve in your work, and reopen your doors when you feel that your work deserves it. JELVISCHAN Wow, that's a really powerful response. I will take your ideas seriously, thank you very much. I think that some good Adobe Illustrator tutorials and designing will do me good. I cannot add tags to my pages because every time I publish again, iWeb overwrites the pages. I do, though, have a Google Webmaster's Account. Please keep in touch with me, for you seem to be very professional and I could use you if I have problems. (Version 1.0)

JELVISCHAN I would like to know your opinion on this icon I just finished over 2 hours. It may not be that good, but please be positive about it. Do you have an email I could send you it? (Version 1.0)

SHRALLDAM Okay, you need advices about icon design. Very well. But you really don't have to SHOUT by WRITING IN CAPS! The only effect this is going to produce is to make people run away in fear (or disgust). To make better icons, you need two major things (at least to make a good start): good references (there are plenty on the Internet, Iconfactory is a good example), and a good sense of communication (which you don't have, otherwise you wouldn't have written a whole message in caps - really). I see that you are desperately trying to bring people to your site and forum, I can understand that, but please find other methods to do so. My opinion is that you're still very young (I don't mean to offend you at all) and that you have a whole lot of things to learn before starting you own website. Before putting it online, you should have made sure that you had all the material to make it look good and attractive. For now, it's quite empty and the few contents are not of professional quality. Try to make several GOOD sets first, and then reopen your site. The people visiting the site will see that there's a fair amount of stuff for them to browse. If you bring them to your site and there's almost nothing to see except some "under construction" areas, they'll be undoubtedly bored. (Version 1.0)

JELVISCHAN Thank you for your response. I did, indeed, redesign my site to make it more professional looking, that is, more of a Macintosh style design. I am doing my best to base my designs on icons from IconFactory and side-by-side icon websites. Do you know a good way to make my site public like iconfactory and icondock? I tried putting my site on dmoz.org, but they never responded.

Layers | Feb 13 2009 |
SHRALLDAM I just love this application. I've dreamed of something like this for a long time. This is just perfect for any kind of screenshot: forgot to clean your desktop before capturing? Just open the file in Photoshop and hide useless stuff, or even rearrange your items for a better look. The only problem I had was with the licensing file not being recognized after a restart, but version 1.0.3 solved the problem. Layers is a must-have for anyone concerned about screenshots. SHRALLDAM You are not serious, are you? What's the whole problem with genitals? You've got them too, you know... Are we supposed to hide the existence of genitals to children until they reach a certain age? As long as genitals are not involved in sexual or erotic situations, why the hell would it be so shocking to let a child see them? (Version 1.24)

ScreenFlow | Apr 22 2008 |
SHRALLDAM You must be kidding. Screenflow has some flaws, but you can't compare it to Snapz Pro. I've been using Snapz for years and while I like some of its features, it just records the screen. That's all. And you have to wait until your movie is compressed. Screenflow lets you do much more, like editing your recordings. Ambrosia did not update SP for ages (they just made it UB a while ago), and the price has not changed since either. Oh, and if it's all about the hotkey you can use from any app, Screenflow does it too: in the Preferences, you can activate the helper which will look for the key combination even if Screenflow isn't launched. Sorry, but even if Snapz Pro was a good utility a few years ago, it's now largely beaten. (Version 1.1)

FastCut | Nov 5 2006 |
SHRALLDAM I agree with earlier comments here. This software must be installed in one place only: the Trash! Can't manage to import any of my clips, and the interface is unintuitive (no drag and drop, no contextual menus...). Charging $24 for this thing is insane. Stick with iMovie, or if you have the budget, look for Final Cut Express HD. Yes, it costs much more than FastCut, but it actually works, and is way more powerful. (Version 2.5)
