SAM ROWLANDS This is a great little casual game, at first it feels like it might be too simple, but you quickly realize you're naive and the challenge cranks up, I'm not a great gamer, but its been a long time since level 5 of any game has me beaten and making me think about strategy! The graphics and the sound are done nicely and the difficulty really makes this casual game a challenge, this alone is something incredibly hard to find in today's casual games. The price is a little more than many other casual games, however for the simple fact that the game doesn't send me to sleep, the developers have earned the extra dollars! (Version 1.0)

HandBrake | Dec 10 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS Sadly 0.9.3 is broke for me. I tried to find somewhere on the website to submit a bug report, but it appears that the only support is the forum. 0.9.3 sits on 0.01% and never processes the movie file. I get a single entry in the console. '12/10/08 2:04:04 PM [0x0-0x6e56e5].org.m0k.handbrake HandBrake(41890,0xb05ea000) malloc: *** error for object 0x1ddde10: double free ' I also tried to download a previous version, but could only find 0.9.1 not 0.9.2, a bit uncomfortable downgrading 2 versions, but at least I can continue to convert my DVDs so work on the iPhone. I hope they figure this out and correct it as Handbrake has been reliable and I've been very happy with it the past. (Version 0.9.3)

Optical Illusion Of The Day | Nov 15 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS The widget worked fine for me, although I do agree with the poster before me... It needs to be bigger, and then it would be much easier... Otherwise keep up the good work, I'm impressed. :) (Version 7.0)

Pixelmator | Nov 12 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS The reason it slows down your computer, is because it needs more memory than is available, it then forces others other applications into the swap space (using hard drive as memory). Even Photoshop has high memory requirements and with 2G of Ram Photoshop drags a C2D MBP down to a crawl (4gb of memory and it feel more natural). (Version 1.3)

BatChmod | Sep 5 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS BatChmod brings back a familiar interface that works. The GetInfo window in Leopard's Finder doesn't work half the time and prefers to display a bunch of permissions for 'Unknown' that cannot be changed. It doesn't matter how many times I repair my permissions these files are always buggered. BatChmod to the rescue, not only is its interface logical, it works too! Darned amazing if you ask me. Once the permissions have been fixed with BatChmod they show and work correctly in the Finder, Result! (Version 1.51)

Time Map | Sep 3 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS This is a really really nice widget. It very visually pleasing and I love the world view. Its really simple to add more time zones and so straight forward that this replaces the previous competing widget. Its features are limited compared to competition, for my purposes this is fine but for other people this may be a problem. I had a problem adding time zones, for a few minutes it kept telling me there was an error. Then it suddenly worked and when it worked, it worked well. My overall impression is that this is a must have widget for anyone who has any interest in work time. Its brilliant and the price is too low. (Version 1.0)

HAIRYCOW Thank you for reviewing the Time Map. The problem you were experiencing when adding cities may be due to an unresponsive third-party service. Using an external location database means that I can do some cool things, like allow an unrestricted list of cities (instead of just the major ones) or return Istanbul when you type Constantinople. However, the downside is that it does add another failure point. I've updated the project web page with a short FAQ that addresses this issue. And if you think that the price is too low, you can always make a donation to a charity that I've selected: Room to Read. :) Instructions for doing so are also on the project page: http://hairycow.name/projects/time_map/ (Version 1.0)

PictureEffects | May 22 2008 |
SAM ROWLANDS This plugin is awesome when it comes to advanced image processing with REALBasic. Not only is the plugin reliable, but the developer quickly fixed the problems I found and added the features I requested. Several RB made products wouldn't be possible without this and the other plugins made by Einhugur. Their pricing is spot on, giving tremendous value for your money. Above a fine example of what a third party RB plugin vendor should be like. (Version 6.2)

HandBrake | Aug 20 2007 |
SAM ROWLANDS This program is a lifesaver, I do a fair bit of traveling and watch DVDs when I get the opportunity. As you can imagine 5 region changes as about as useful as an umbrella in a Typhoon. Using HandBrake I am able to watch DVDs from anywhere. (Version 0.9)

DPReview Widget | Mar 2 2007 |
SAM ROWLANDS Does what it says, in a straightforward and elegant interface. I would like to be able to resize the window however. I am not sure how I feel about the price as you can read the RSS feed for free using Safari, however this is a nice little Widget. (Version 1.0)

Application Enhancer | Nov 1 2006 |
SAM ROWLANDS Should be known as "Haxie to destroy other applications via plug-ins.", when installed other applications behave weirdly and crash randomly. (Version 2.0.2)

Adobe Soundbooth CS4 | Oct 28 2006 |
SAM ROWLANDS Its nice to see History applied to a sound editor and the non-destructive effects, and its so far very stable. I tried the free Audacity, trying to perform simple functions made it crash. As for features, its kind of nothing special, you can get more outa Garage Band which comes FREE with your Mac. I find the interface somewhat confusing, especially the way how it allows for multiple sounds to be open at once. I would prefer each sound in its own window or to be able to see all the sounds at once. I personally think that the interface controls (buttons, sliders, tabs and such) are hideous, reminds me of some bad haxie theme. All in all the only advantage of SoundBooth is the history, but its only a matter of time till the other choices add this ability. I was excited to hear that this was in the spirit of SoundEdit 16, but let down by the confusing, cumbersome interface and lack of "features". (Version 1.0b1)

VLC Media Player | May 7 2006 |
SAM ROWLANDS VLC is such a necessary application. The fact that VLC can play DVDs regardless of 'region' has allowed me to continue enjoying the DVDs that I legally purchase! I travel a lot and buy DVDs where-ever, now I can watch them where ever I am with my laptop and VLC! And now I enjoy watching movies in all sorts of formats. Lets not forget that these guys provide reliable and useful software for free (why for free I simply do not know!). (Version 0.8.5)

REALbasic 2009 | Sep 14 2005 |
SAM ROWLANDS There are technical reasons as to why RB 2k5 has tabbed windows, now you can have multiple projects open at once and if you miss the old way then simply open a new window. REALSoftware have been working hard with the RB community and its paid of, 2k5 is very stable and includes lots of useful features. If you can look past the interface change and realize that so much more can be done with 2k5 I am sure that you will agree with me. (Version r3)

VLC Media Player | Nov 4 2004 |
SAM ROWLANDS This program is a life saver! Being a regular traveller I often rent or buy DVDs from countries that I didn't buy my computer in. If it wasn't for VLC I would either have to only buy DVDs from one country or have to get a separate multi-region DVD player. DVD playback might not as smooth as the Apple DVD player but at least now I can watch half my DVD collection. (Version 0.8.0)
