SPARTAN I am sure you are a pro, happy with Leopard. IMHO you're damn lucky with your softwares, because right now, with OS 10.5.1: * AVID does not work, too bad it is the leader in video production. Final Cut Studio, the challenger in video prod, has problems too. After Effects has problems and the last Quick Time update even disable video editing. Well, it's not that good on the video side. * Cubase has problem. Logic has many problems (one of the worst is the "famous" overflow, however this is a Logic bug not a Leopard one). ProTools is a little buggy. Ableton Live seems to work. Not that good on the audio side. * Adobe Photoshop 7, Adobe CS 1 and Adobe CS 2 are not working. Adobe CS 3 has problems. Adobe PDF can't print. Not that good on the graphic side. Sorry to be angry because computers sold for $2000-$4000 doesn't work anymore. What a great idea to stop selling Tiger with the new computers. Well, the iPhone works, thank you Steve. (Version 10.5.1)

Apple Mac OS X | Jan 24 2008 |
SPARTAN I am an avid Mac user and this is the first time I'm going to downgrade the system. Last chance, I am waiting a couple of days for a 10.5.2 and if nothing comes from Apple, I will UPGRADE to Tiger. After three months using Leopard, it is clear that Leopard is worse than anything else: stupid eye candy, lots of bugs, poor backward compatibility, I am sad to write that I have less problem with Windows XP... Leopard showed me my softwares are more important thant a beta OS full of bugs, be it an Apple one. I don't like Vista either and if 10.5.2 is not a stabe release, my next computer will be a PC with Windows XP. It is ugly and it is not fun to use, but it works with pro softwares (video, music). Too bad Apple screwed OS X with this one. Jaguar, Panther and Tiger were great OS, stable and pro. This buggy thing is a disgrace, and an expensive one. (Version 10.5.1)

PUPDAK Well, when was the last time you used a newly released Windows OS? LOL Vista has been way worse than OS X 10.5. After the first major update, i've had no problems with 10.5, other than Acrobat Professional with CS3 doesn't run. Even after the "fixes" for it. Try and remember, XP has been out for how many years? It's not been this stable forever. New OS's need more time to work the final bugs out. Time Machine has saved my booty 2 or 3 times already from hard drive crashes, courtesy of SeaGate. (Version 10.5.2)

Thunderbird | Jan 24 2008 |
SPARTAN Disappointed by Apple and Leopard, I wanted to switch from the Apple suite to a more open set of tools, because I'm not sure my next computer will be a Mac... after being an Apple fan since 1984! Will Thunderbird replace Apple Mail? I don't think so. Like ETNIER, with Thunderbird 2.0.0.9, I have the message: "Import Preferences, Account Settings, Addressbook and otherdata from: Don't import anything". Good joke. (Version 2.0.0.9)

Canon PowerShot ImageBrowser | Oct 21 2007 |
SPARTAN ImageBrowser is OK, not bad, not great. The worst part is that it can't read .tiff and can't send back a photo to the camera – it WAS (!) possible in OS 9... It's not too slow and stability is great. There are faster tools to sort photos, better tools to archive pics, this one is not the best, it simply works. But the real gem in that Canon suite is DPP. Its conversions are far superior to Camera RAW / LR / Aperture / C1 / etc. conversions. Image Browser worth a 3/5 and DPP a 5/5. (Version 5.8b)

Netscape Navigator | Oct 15 2007 |
SPARTAN What a surprise :-) Netscape Navigator 9 is a great browser, better imho than Camino and Firefox. Firefox seems more and more bloated, and the last version is slow on my computer (1.5 GHz PPC G4). Once launched, Netscape is close to Safari. Definitely worth a try. Welcome back Netscape. Works with Firefox add-ons (Flashblock) Lots of configuration options A couple of cool tools (mini browser, weather icons) Launch time inferior to Sarafi's OS X integration might be better (shortcuts, spellchecker): -1 Features. I hope there will be an Aqua port (Version 9.0)
