RUSSELL GLEASON Running 10.6 Snow Leopard and windowshade doesn't work. I was hoping for a smooth transition (concerning the move from Leopard to Snow Leopard) concerning WindowShade but of course that wasn't the case. Why Apple never carried the windowshade feature from O/S 9.X to OS 10.X to begin with is beyond me. (Version 4.3)

EASER Indeed, it is of immense value to be able to momentarily collapse a window to read info. underneath it. I do this when working between my budget spreadsheet and online bank statement. Expose is nifty but nowhere near as functional. I assume Apple's been contacted about this numerous times. (Version 4.3)

DONEBYLEE I have emailed Unsanity and of course I never received a reply. You would think that they would have at least some mention of the problem on their website, but no. No replies to customers. No stated acknowledgement that their product was rendered unusable by the latest OSX update. No timetable for a fix. I wish Windowshade X weren't so d@^^*d useful. (Version 4.3)

WindowShade X | Sep 5 2009 |
EASER They don't even mention the existence of Snow Leopard. Surely, can there not be some other developer(s) out there who see the demand and need for window shading? They'd likely make a small fortune. (Version 4.3)

TrashCache | Jul 5 2007 |
RUSSELL GLEASON Have you ever trashed something and and later regretted it, wishing that you could somehow go back in time and recover it? That's exactly what this program allows you to do! And the best part is its simple and easy to use. Right now I'm evaluating it and so far it performs as advertised and runs without flaw. To be able to recover something you wish you hadn't zapped is worth the $20.00 to me and I will no doubt be purchasing this product in the very near future. - Russell (Version 1.4)

RealPlayer | May 8 2007 |
RUSSELL GLEASON This install of Realplayer worked perfectly for me. But then I'm using an older (ancient by today's standards) PPC G4 Digital Audio Mac. I'm running OS-10.4.9, Dual 1.8GHz processors and a ATI Radeon 9800 Video card. This is probably the best Realplayer I've seen yet. (Version 10.1 (490))

RUSSELL GLEASON FOLLOW-UP - I finally recieved my registration numbers by email. In this day and age where electronic communication and transactions are instantaneous, having to wait as long as I had to for the email registration numbers was (I felt) unreasonable - especially in light of the fact I still have no email address for contact with the developer [this also was NOT included with the registration information]. If I had, had his email address, I certainly would have posted it here. What about the program itself? Works great! Very simple, easy to use, and does exactly as advertised! I'm exceedingly happy with it. I'm using this program to run my 12 button programable Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick [supposedly made for the PC "only", but made totally functionable for the Mac with GamePad Campion v2.4 on OS-10.4.9 on a 2002 G4 Digital Audio Mac]. I can highly recommend this program for all PPC Mac users. I can also highly recommend the developer make publicity known his email address for customer support !!! (Version 2.4)

RUSSELL GLEASON RIP-OFF - Unless you have an Apple Account in order to access their email address for support your SOL. I purchased this program today (May 4 2007) and NEVER (I repeat - NEVER) recieved an email from them with a registration number. And since I don't have an account with "Apple", I can't get access to their email address for support. Their demo works great, but if you like to throw your money away, just purchase this product. Or better yet, send me your money! rsgleason2000@yahoo.com (Version 2.4)

SteerMouse | May 2 2007 |
RUSSELL GLEASON I'm so tired of hearing people say "$20.00 is a lot of money for a program". You spent hundreds more than that on your own computer! And yet you'll spend $20.00 on a pizza without blinking an eye and that will give you what? a 1/2 hour of pleasure? Why not spend $20.00 on something that's going to last you (like a great software program). Steermouse works as advertised, and I have no problem paying for a program that fuctions as it should and makes my computing experince a shear joy. Especially when it comes to using a high end, high quality mouse that was designed "only for PC's", but will now "fully function" on my G4 Mac! To the developers of Steermouse, "Thank you"! RUSSELL GLEASON I agree with ALBABE. You still can't even get into the chatrooms even with this "new version" of yahoo messenger. It's a joke. Yahoo needs a mac software developer who knows what he's doing. (Version 3.0b1r2)

RUSSELL GLEASON Whether you like FireFox or not, is no longer the issue. Yahoo is going to drop its support for Sarfari and force FireFox and Mozilla on Mac users (sort of like when they dropped their support for Java in the chatrooms, remember that?). (Version 2.0rc2)

X-Plane | Aug 24 2006 |
RUSSELL GLEASON I myself am relatively new with X-Plane (Aug. 23, 2006) having purchased ver. 8.40. I'm using a G4 Digital Audio Mac with Dual 1.8GHz Processors and a ATI 9600 converted AGP graphics card from OWC made specially for G4 Macs, along with 1.25Gb of RAM. Here is my evaluation so far: PROs: This is probably the best "authentic" Flight Simulator for the Mac that your going to find. It is a real joy to fly/play as I can find myself spending hours on this game. CONs: The number of free aircraft that you can download is good (but not great). The free aircraft that are available are great, but the number and type of aircraft I feel is somewhat limited (for my taste) and this leaves me alittle disappointed. Probably the single biggest CON for me is this similator lacks "detailed geographical senery". Given the day and age of computer technology that we live in, the accuracy of low altitude senery is quiet lacking. A GPS map display would also be nice for pin-point location accuracy (just yesterday I was walking through Sears and you can even buy hand held electronic GPS map displays/units that show exactly where your at!). I think in the end, while X-Plane is a very, very good program that I would highly recommend to anyone, I think the makers of the program are having a tough time keeping up with todays technology for a "highly realistic" feel "beyond the instrumentation panel" for flying characteristics that gives a pilot a realistic detailed look and feel. - Russell (Version 8.5b8)

Call of Duty 2 | Aug 24 2006 |
RUSSELL GLEASON First of all, the requirements for COD2 (Call of Duty 2) are deceiving as this game will run on a G4 (provided your G4 has been heavily upgraded). I'm using a G4 Digital Audio Mac, with a DUAL 1.8GHz Processor from Sonnet Technologies, a OWC Modified Version of the ATI Radeon 9600 AGP Video Graphics Card with 64Mb of memory (IMPORTANT NOTE: this grapgics card was originally designed for G5's but converted and adapted for G4 use ONLY and it is available at www.macsales.com ) plus 1.25Gb of RAM. Also, I've used this game on two different type hard drives - a Firewire 400 External Hard drive from Fantom Drives and a ATA 133 Internal Hard Drive connected to a ATA 133 PCI Hard Drive Card. Having said this, COD2 runs smoothly on my G4 without flaw, and I have to admit it is the best WW2 War game yet made by Asypr. This new generation of software games reflect a quality that is fast pace and more detailed, definately superior to the original COD, and it is a huge blast to play (I've only used the single player function to date). I can highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for an excellant quality war game!

So far BonEcho looks and runs okay. - Russell (Version 1.5.0.4)

RUSSELL GLEASON While this software is (the Yahoo Messenger) is totally outdated there is an alternative called ADIUM. At least ADIUM can get you back in the chat world of Yahoo without the need of Java Support (that Yahoo has recently dropped). ADIUM can also be found in MacUpdate and its FREE! (Version 2.5.3)

RUSSELL GLEASON I hate to rain on Lumpy's parade, but I found out that Adium will be replacing iChat for Apple's OS-10.5.0 Leopard. Check out the APRIL 1 article (you'll see pics of Leopard) at http://www.adiumx.com/blog/ Also, after having gone to the library and using a PC to get into the Mac Chatroom of Yahoo, I did indeed find out that Adium is the only Mac Chat Client (at the time of this writing) that is not dependant upon the Java Script which Yahoo has recently shutdown. Adium does work! I'm running a G4 Digital Audio Mac with DUAL 1.8GHz processors and OS-10.4.6 TIGER. A great thanks to theMacUpdate Administrators for pointing me in this direction. - Russell (Version 0.89.1)

RUSSELL GLEASON It was suggested to me to look at Adium X 0.89.1 and I want to thank the person for that suggestion, but, it does not look like (to me anyway) that Adium X 0.89.1 will allow you to pick and select/choose which Yahoo chatroom you can visit (the cancer chat for instance). iZoom | Mar 24 2006 |
RUSSELL GLEASON This is just a comment on iZoom. I think over all, this is a great applicant and is exceedingly easy to use. HOWEVER, I believe iZoom has a serious memory leak as it tends to suck up all the free RAM that I've got (I have 1gig. of Ram in my Mac Digital Audio G4). Anyone else experincing this problem? iSquint | Feb 21 2006 |
RUSSELL GLEASON As a user of iSquint I've been very pleased with this product up until the developer jumped from 1.1.X to 1.2.X. For some reason, the 1.2.x versions of this software no longer performs correctly on my Mac (a G4 533MHz Digital Audio running OS-10.4.5 TIGER). I've since then returned to the older version of 1.1.2 of iSquint and that version works perfectly. If I were a software developer I could be more specific and technical as to why the newer 1.2.x versions won't work on my Mac, but since I'm not, I can't. (Version 1.2.2)

RUSSELL GLEASON This is an outstanding product. Its 1) Easy to use 2) Simple to understand 3) and it WORKS !!! iSquint is very user friendly, and I highly recommend getting it for your Video iPod. Oh, by the way, it is much faster than using Quicktime in converting movies and videos (that you legally own) to an iPod Video format. - Russell (Version 1.0rc1)

Nvu | Feb 2 2005 |
RSGLEASON2000 This version of NVU (Ver.0.80/Beta) is a whole lot better than the previous version. It seems alot snappier (quicker), less buggy, and definately more keyboard command friendly (i.e. - copy/paste keyboard commands). Having only briefly tried it so far, the only thing can fault it for was I had some mystery anchors appear at the bottom of my page which were all duplicates of the very last anchor that I made. I had to use the Netscape Composer to finally get rid of them. As far as IMPROVEMENTS that are needed - when you use the OPEN or SAVE AS options and the "WINDOW with the COLUMNS" appears for you to make your choice as to where to OPEN or to SAVE the document you want - it would be nice to be able to manually adjust the with of those COLUMNS [which by the way, is a STANDARD CAPABILITY of most OS-X software programs]. Other than that, NVU is starting to look good, really good! This developer is definately headed in the right direction with this program. - Russell (Version 0.80)

RUSSELL Since NVU isn't even a ver. 1.0 yet, I think any harsh critism should be with held (personal opinion). I just downloaded loaded it today (01/15/05) and I like what I see. It reminds me of the same ease and simplicity of Claris Homepage. It your going to issue harsh critism wait until the software has had a chance to make it to the development stage of v2.0 - 4.0, geez, give the developer a chance to develope! - Russell (Version 0.70)

RUSSELL GLEASON It could be just me, but Chronosync will not reconize my external jazz drive as a source on the desktop to backup onto. I'm using a G3 and I'm running OS 10.2.8. From what I saw it looks like a good program and very professional in appearance. I'm confident if Chronosync had reconized the Jaz Drive on my desktop and worked as advertised it would have recieved the highest rating from me (as it looks like a good possible candidate for replacing CopyAgent that I use for OS 9.x) - Russell (Version 2.0.4)
