RUNAWAY  Hi, my script adds only icons and file associations via Info.plist patching.

It adds icons for filetypes listed here: http://perian.org/#detail and MKV is included.

RUNAWAY  Uhm what incompatibility? My script modifies only Info.plist file inside QuickTime Player.app bundle and places some files (the icons) into Resources folder. I don'think this can interfering with Toast

RUNAWAY  Strange event...I have EyeTV too and I don't have any problem.

Maybe in some circumstances Perian results not compatible with EyeTV. My script simply patch the Info.plist and don't add anything else (except for the icons).

RUNAWAY  The 2.x versions add "only" a new interface (because of port to AppleScript Studio) and if you have already patched your quicktime don't need this new version.

RUNAWAY  For wmv files already exists wmv player (part of Flip4Mac) which provide the correct icons for files.

RUNAWAY  The purpose of this script is simple: if you have Perian installed and have associated flv files (for example) to QuickTime you can watch them, but because QuickTime wasn't born to play them, the files doesn't have an icon.

This script patches the Info.plist file of QuickTime to automatically associate certain files to QuickTime and add correct icons for them.

(In os x every application declares which file can open/play/edit and LaunchServices receive this declaration.)

RUNAWAY  Hi, I'm happy to see all this interests around my script :).

I've decided to use PlistBuddy because I know just a few shell commands and for me was more simple learn some AppleScript instead of shell scripting, due to the high simplicity of the first.

However I wish to add an efficient backup/restore routine to my script and because of this I'm very interested to see your approach of this.

RUNAWAY  If you have already patched your Info.plist, is not necessary to re-patch it.

The new versions of the script may add new features, or improve the existent code, but the patch itself remain the same.

RUNAWAY  Thanks for the review :D

I have added in version 1.0.1 an initial dialog which explain what is going to happen, adding the ability to cancel the process.

Now I'm working to adding the ability to backup and restore the file.
