ROBERT MORTON  Make sure you are running Cisco 4.9.01 (0100). Our Kernel panics were reduced dramatically after that.

ROBERT MORTON  I had used version 2 and it worked great when I lost a hard drive. I really didn't use it for regular syncing though. Of course years later I had another need for it. I also had lost my registration number. The developer responded with my registration information in less than 4 hours on a Sunday. That is what I call great support from a product that does its job very well.

ROBERT MORTON  If you like sports, I can't imagine how you would not like these. With the changing versions, upgrading could be easier, but that is all I can think of that is a minor annoyance.

ROBERT MORTON  I would want this for the office and sadly it would take too long to actually buy it at teh reduced price. Corporate America is funny like that.

ROBERT MORTON  I mostly agree with your statements. The problem is that version 3 was completely unusable for me. That was the official one. Anytime I went to shutdown or restart a VM it crashed in the middle of shutting down. If the Mac went to sleep while VPN'ed into the office, I had to force a restart. These were real issues with the "final" version. The fix has been to install the betas. I haven't installed this one yet, but the others have been perfect for me.

ROBERT MORTON  I can see where a highlight would work, but my preference is to keep it chronologically ordered. The teams helmet next to the favorite team would be fine. Picking a standard highlight color would be fine. Having the team colors for the highlights might be cool.

ROBERT MORTON  OK, that little hack is perfect (well close enough). As for a generic launch RDC, save a profile without a server name in it. I called mine " Generic" so that it appears at the top of the list.

ROBERT MORTON  Apple no longer support security updates for Mac OS X 10.2. When they release 10.5, security updates for 10.3 will go by way side as well. If the open office group can get the product out faster by ditching 10.3 support now, that is great in my mind. 10.3 support will be drying up very shortly from Apple anyway.

ROBERT MORTON  I keep meaning to write a review on this. If you like football, this is a must. If you want to see what a great widget looks like, this is a must. Basically, this is the coolest widget I have. Prior to the 2.0 update there were some annoyances. Those have been more than corrected and the space didn't go up. Great job.

ROBERT MORTON  At this point I can say that if you manage computers, you should really give a good look to this product. It does things that no other program does like re-imaging a live system. While there are a few too many windows, it still seems to be improving rapidly, integrates with SMS reporting, actually has it's own reporting if you can't stand SMS's and has very friendly support. While we haven't bought it, there is a good chance in the not too distant future.

Symantec's AutoProtect does seem to slow things down dramatically while transferring large amounts of data, but it tries to suck the life out of everything anyway.

GroupCal

ROBERT MORTON  This could come in handy as I use iCal and we have an Exchange server, but at that price, I would just use Entourage for my calendar and keep two separate calendars. Am I the only person that thinks this way? I am not generally a person to complain about prices, but I could not justify this no matter how good it is.

ROBERT MORTON  Entourage can actually do a good search against an LDAP server. You used to have to basically do an advanced Find to find anything. Spot light works. Basically, if I used Entourage as my main email program, I would be happy.

ROBERT MORTON  This is great, but I would also like to recommend adding the ability to launch and connect to various servers. That would make this perfect instead of just really handy.

Norton AntiVirus

***..

ROB MORTON  Symantec does not understand that the people that would benefit the most from this application are in the enterprise. NAV 9 is still based on an individuals machine. It does not tie into Symantec Enterprise software so there is no tracking or forced updates or even the ability to verify that an update will work prior to updating it. There is also no reason that this program does not use the same definitions as the PC version. When the PC gets an update, the Mac version should be able to use it.

Lastly, virus software needs to be hidden from the user. If a user can see it doing anything, they will get irritated. I ended up having to create cron jobs to avoid the LiveUpdate Window. I think the best thing I heard about that window was, "That is the ugliest design I have ever seen on my computer." I am thinking that could be reduced to nothing and be a good start.

The only thing I can say is that so far it has been fairly stable with system updates. I never thought I would be able to say that about anything from Symantec, but they did pretty well with this one. Now I expect it to fail with 10.4, but unless Apple gives them a ton of details ahead of time, they can only do so much.

Still, much better than Virex that took years to get a product that was useable in terms of actually giving the features any virus software needs like on access scanning. Sophos is still the best, least intrusive virus software for the Mac. Not to mention that Sophos was the only application the actually found almost all the viruses that I put on a machine in various ways. There is a dated detailed review that I wrote at http://ceti.acs-inc.com/evaluations/virussoftware.php

ROB MORTON  This is a great app. It really makes doing scripts easier. I have noticed that the $1 does not seem to work for getting the path to the created application. Even the sample script doesn't seem to work. The only feature I would like to see added is the ability to run without showing up in the Dock. That would be very nice.

CLIX

ROBERT MORTON  I consider myself pretty handy with the CLI, but come on, does anyone remember all of the little commands? When you find a new command that has some use to you, is there a place to put it an? Are you organized enough to really find it again? CLI is perfect for this. It also would help people see some command lines and help them learn it. You can give commands a nice english command, category and description. An example is...

Log Cleaner - Cleanup - clean log files -rm -f /private/tmp/DebugLog.log; find /Library/Logs -name "*.log" -exec rm -f {} \;; find ~/Library/Logs -name "*.log" -exec rm -f {} \;

Now two minor issues. One, wild card use scares me for normal users. In this case a person would have to be pretty foolish to story important files ending in .log in the Log folder of the various Library folders, but still. Second issue is that UNIX results can get large (wide). The results window is a bit small in my opinion.

The Ease of Use got dinged pretty hard because the default database is inside the package and it was not being used on my system. I had to hunt around for it to realize that I really like this program. There are a couple other little things that I will send as suggestions to the author.
