ROBERT COOGAN I agree! This struck me at first as kind of useless...adding a unwanted feature. But it has really gotten me hooked. I definitely recommend it. (Version 1.2b1)

ROBERT COOGAN Uh...no. Same quality, but one is FREE. People can try both, and decide if they want to shell out $$$ for something that Tooble does for free. :) (Version 3.0b19)

ROBERT COOGAN Tooble downloads and converts flv with the exact same quality as any other similar app (including Tubesock). Automatically converts the flv and imports it into iTunes at the same speed as Tubesock.

PAT320 Tobble download flv (poor quality) and convert to mp4, so the quality stay the same and it take more time. Mactubes which is also free, DOWNLOADS THE MP4 VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE, BETTER QUALITY AND NO CONVERSION. Mactubes is better. (Version 3.0b18)

PAT320 I wonder if you know the difference between a .flv and a .mp4 video downloaded from youtube…? Why do you want get the .flv to convert, while the .mp4 is available on youtube? (Version 3.0b19)

Pocket Gnome | Aug 22 2008 |
ROBERT COOGAN Without the ability to try it out (without the license it doesn't work) it's pointless to try it at all. There needs to be a limited trial period - even as little as a day or even a few hours - to see if the purchase is worth it. (Version 1.1.2)

GONEFISHING Pocket Gnome opens and runs without requiring any purchase whatsoever (if you had bothered to download it, you might have noticed this fact). It will run for an hour... a day... even a month (or as long as you can go without restarting), and never nag you at all. The primary limitation on Pocket Gnome is that you cannot "bot" for more than 10 minutes without purchasing a license -- however, the program will run indefinitely without spending a dime, and the majority of features do not require purchase at all. If you are looking for more (real) information about Pocket Gnome, I highly recommend visiting the official list of features at http://savorydeviate.com/pocketgnome/features/ (Version 1.1.2)

ROBERT COOGAN Doesn't work at all under 10.5.4 on my MBP. Tried reinstalling, and nothing seems to work. (Version 4.2b1)

FruitMenu | Aug 19 2008 |
ROBERT COOGAN Changes only took place after logout/login (no surprise there). But the contextual menu items will not display, it stays with the OS default settings. Also the Apple Menu will not display "Recent Applications" alone (my preferred setting), it only shows the default "Recent Items." Not sure why, but it's no big deal. (Version 3.7)

ROBERT COOGAN Very good idea and works well except for one problem. When reading from the page, it does not distinguish between sentences - so when it comes to the end of a sentence, it doesn't pause to signify the end of one sentence and the start of another. (Version 0.9.4)

We do try to insert full stops into the text that gets synthesized from the Wikipedia text wherever they would be useful or natural. For example, after every heading and subheading. If you have a specific example of an article that is not speaking correctly, please do let me know by e-mailing support@shinydevelopment.com with the details of it and I will take a look at how it is being processed.

Region X | Jul 2 2008 |
ROBERT COOGAN It's unlikely that a software solution by itself would work since the region encoding is part of the firmware, and not solely software-based. I was originally told that VLC Player would open any DVD, regardless of region, and that turned out to be wrong. That's why Region X works - it taps into the optical drive's firmware and makes the change there. (Version 1.3)

ROBERT COOGAN Works, but takes an incredibly long time to convert a 800KB flv file. A speed bump and a progress bar would be nice. (Version 0.9.9)

Delicious Library | May 26 2008 |
ROBERT COOGAN I like this app a lot. But it only has one drawback, that might turn off some people too soon. When you first use it, you'll probably have a ton of stuff to put in it - so searching for all of the covers and info to go in the comments and such will seem like a neverending task. It's an understandable frustration and if I were to suggest ANYTHING to Delicious Monster it would be to simplify and automate much of this process. Right now they have a really good app which unfortunately has much (too much) of it's appeal based upon potential. Make it easier to "fill in the blanks" by expanding the range of searchable databases to make looking for much of this info faster and less of a labour. (Version 1.6.6)

ROBERT COOGAN iStumbler will do all this as well, and is free. But iStumbler could take a hint as this app's menubar intergration is very handy. (Version 1.4.2)

ROBERT COOGAN Something has been broken with the most recent update - banner ads and animation are no longer blocked. Not sure why, this has happened on both a MacBook Pro and an iMac G5. (Version 10.0.8)

ROBERT COOGAN I very much agree - this is a steal at this price. As I live in Japan, I use it to record NPR news and Grove Salad on SomaFM. Buy this, it is (as I have said said) a steal. An awesome app with a very very minor learning curve. (Version 1.7.2)

ROBERT COOGAN This would be much better if it interfaced with Google Earth. I use HoudahGeo to pin my photos to GE, why not this? (Version 1.6v225)

KPE You can view Routes in Google Earth. Trailrunner is a route planning app. Houdah Geo is a geocoding app for photos. Even though they both use GPS data, they have different purposes. (Version 1.7v245)

Now Up-to-Date and Contact X | Apr 22 2008 |
ROBERT COOGAN Very nice, but it badly needs integrated an e-mail client to be truly useful. I use Entourage 2008 which meets this need, but handles IMAP badly - so I really need a replacement. NUTDC is a great app, but without that e-mail functionality I would be reduced to jumping back and forth between NUTDC and Apple Mail. More trouble than it's worth. Hope the devs are incorporating this into nighthawk, though I did not see this mentioned on the website. (Version 5.3.2)
