PIXELJUNKEY  Nice product but BIG system resource hog... on dual core Macbook pros, a 24 fps capture with audio uses over 100% CPU and causes the fans to spin up constantly.

PIXELJUNKEY  In testing this app, I found crashers when applying filters to single layer JPEGs, and also found inoperative or incomplete features. Example: the color picker has no option for pixel values and does not work with the HSB color mode.

For $79 the application should be a lot more polished than this IMO. I like the idea of putting core editing tools inside an Aperture-like UI (much better concept than Pixelmator which is a total mess of a UI), but it's only half-baked IMO.

PIXELJUNKEY  It's not a hate thing. I want to like this product setup, I really do. But ultimately it's about being fair with people. I could ask you the reverse question: why settle for whatever pricing scheme they give you without questioning it? Why the arbitrary two week window? That is ridiculous.

What if someone purchased the non-advanced version several weeks ago and hasn't heard about the new update for whatever reason (people are busy)... and a month from now they go to get their special upgrade... why on earth shouldn't they be able to get it? Or six months from now?

Aquafadas knows *when* you bought the software, so if you bought it before-hand in 2008, then pretty much that offer should have no time-limit as long as you have proof of purchase. They're trying to squeak in extra profits everywhere they can, for a product that frankly has a lot of competition. I understand it's business and I don't deny the product itself is decent quality, but the pricing system is FUBAR IMO.

PIXELJUNKEY  Thanks for your response. However your store page

http://www.aquafadas.com/newsite2/store/

seems to indicate what I was saying earlier. I don't even see why it would be a time-limited thing. As long as you purchased before release, you should be able to get the discount at any time.

Will there be any discount for people who purchased via the recent MU bundle? I'm sure many people are curious about that also. For my part I'm just going to use more advanced software. I just thought this looked like a cool product to make quick videos but unless one of the templates fits your purposes...

PIXELJUNKEY  And btw, now it's perfectly clear why Std version was included in a recent MU bundle... because they wanted those users to have to pay the 2x upgrade fee to get the advanced version a couple months later. Weak sauce.

TSANTEE  If I hadn't been introduced to PulpMotion through the MU promo I probably wouldn't have taken an interest in the new advanced version. In my opinion that's a good thing. In addition, the savings the developer is providing previous license holders is about equal to what was paid for the entire MU promo package. That's an even better thing. They also emailed me with an better deal for those who purchase the upgrade in the first two weeks of release. I give them a pat on the back.

JKT  No sh*t Sherlock! The companies participating in these bundles aren't stupid - either they are first release apps that they want to get some traction in a crowded market or they are more established versions of apps that will be see new versions released (relatively) soon afterwards. Good grief - they are practically giving their software away for free in terms of how much money that get back directly by participating in these bundles so why be surprised that there is some form of marketing ploy behind it?

Fwiw, aquafadas are hardly the only company to have done this.

PIXELJUNKEY  "Advanced" version has some nice updates, but basically is little more than a way to force existing users to pay double what they paid for the standard version, just to upgrade.

Sorry but the improvements made here do not justify spending either $85 (upgrade) or $129 (first time), given that you can do infinitely more with Final Cut Express 4 for just $70 more! And academic users can get FCE4 for just $50 more than Pulp Motion Advanced. It's not even remotely a contest in terms of capability and quality.

This is not a good value at all IMHO. Full price should be about $99 and upgrade should be no more than the full price of standard ($49). I don't appreciate paying for a product and then being gouged for an upgrade that is basically what the original product should have been in the first place in terms of editing media, speed, etc.

HIRO34F  Hi,

We've sent an information email to the registered Pulpmotion to inform them about the special offer. If you haven't received it please get it touch with us and we'll send you the instruction to get the rebate.

We make no difference if you got PulpMotion through mupromo or directly from us, as PulpMotion in the mupromo bundle was a full version.

PIXELJUNKEY  Just switched from Snapz Pro and I won't look back. This product is so much more robust and is every bit as easy if not easier to use than Snapz. Not to mention Snapz has languished with the same feature set for over 2 years. Time to give the new player on the block my business. Nice work Vara!

PIXELJUNKEY  TIME TO CLEAR THE AIR

1) This product is NOT (nor will it ever be) a "Photoshop Killer". If you're talking about Photoshop Elements, then say that, and quit trying to sound so dramatic. This product has a lot of bugs and design flaws, and frankly is not anywhere near as good as even Elements right. It's not even in the same league as Photoshop CS3, let alone warrant a comparison. Would be like comparing SoundStudio to Logic Studio. Pointless!

2) Just because something looks pretty, and is offered on Mac only does NOT make it "Mac Like". The UI design on this software is POOR. Floating windows and panels have a purpose in some situations that make them better than modal dialogs or toolbars. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to turn the entire application into a floating window! The lack of UI knowledge in some of these reviews is just comical. Pretty should be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.

3) This product is really no more powerful than most of the $50 genero-brand editors (like Arcsoft or whatever) that you buy at CompUSA. It's just hyped way more and looks nicer so people get excited about it. That said, I hope the product is improved from a UI standpoint (note to developer: UI form should follow function - just like the design of a house), and that it becomes more stable and flexible in terms of what you can edit with it.

Bottom line: this product is useful for editing JPEGs out of camera and tinkering around. It's not a serious image editor and certainly nothing a professional would ever consider for serious work. Maybe by version 3 or 4 that will change, but no time soon IMO, and certainly not even version 2, unless they take two years to develop it. ;-)

PIXELJUNKEY  Works OK for smaller files. Chokes on anything over 20MB on our systems. It gets 3/4 through an upload to our .Mac folder and then freezes with an "unknown error". Happens consistently and repeatably on 3 different systems, none of which have any other connection problems. Probably worth $10 at most IMO, even once they fix the connection problems. It's just a prettier face on your .Mac account or FTP account basically.

PIXELJUNKEY  Add in truly robust screen video support to 2.0 and I'll pay $20 for the privilege. : ) Snapz Development has practically disappeared seems like. 3 years on, we're still waiting for some substantial improvements (performance and features). Making it a UB doesn't count. Especially given that is still costs like $60 just to get all the features. Ambrosia has more than gone to the bank on this one. Time to move on.

PIXELJUNKEY  Not much to add. The magazines we work with insisted on not moving to ID but Quark 7 and are now regretting it... AGAIN. Unstable, few compelling new features. Same crap different version basically.

PSA: design houses, publications, print houses.... PLEASE... if you haven't migrated your operations to InDesign/ InCopy. DO IT. What little pain you might feel in the transition will more than be made up for with happier clients and more efficient operations in the long run.

InDesign is the future of desktop layout and publishing. You can choose to work against the tide and continue diddling around all the problems Quark causes, or you can make the move and go forward.

PIXELJUNKEY  Very buggy. Crashes on my machine about every 3rd or 4th use. Audio often stutters during high-load situations where lots of missiles and explosions are going off. No ability to keep personal high scores, no ability to turn off timed game and play a damage-based game. No ability to change graphics settings once you choose the "don't show at startup option" (or if there is, it's hard to find). In short, the Widget is more fun for occasional use than the actual stand alone app. But it has promise. Hopefully they'll make it more flexible and stable in the near future.

PIXELJUNKEY  No, you're an idiot because you don't have a valid reason to claim the software is a ripoff. Normally this requires the following conditions:

A) The product doesn't do what it says it does

B) The product's price is not in line with what it does

C) Both A and B

Diskwarrior is a well known product in Mac maintenance circles and for most people

A) Does exactly what it claims to do

and

B) Doesn't cost much compared to other programs like TechTool, and no more than its direct competition (Drive Genius - $99), which doesn't work as well for many people to begin with.

Understand now? Instead of claiming the developers are "greedy" and on the way out, because the problem is you (i.e. you're cheap and unwilling to pay for a decent product), maybe you should either state the program's shortcomings for the money, or simply say nothing.

Here's a nice little clue for you, it's called "Makers of Great Software ™ have to pay their bills and feed their families too." Or maybe "greedy" software makers should just always settle for the lowest price that some potential user thinks is fair, and get the rest of their money from welfare. Idiot...

D9  FYI... OmniPlan is a joint project from the developer of PMX, JTechSoftworks. PMX was a great entry-level project mgt solution, rich in OS X usability and features while easy to use and integrate. JTech has now ceased it's active development of PMX to allow it to advance with OmniPlan.

So I agree w/ your assertion. Combining a great, early solution like PMX with the skill, detail and resourcese of OmniGroup bodes very good for OmniPlan, and more importantly for Mac users needing a great project management solution.

PIXELJUNKEY  Not bad for such a young product. Would be better if the interface were shored up a little bit. Get the progress bar off of the center of the viewing area and replace it with the spinning tick-mark meter, maybe at the top right corner of the toolbar. Need an easy way to reset all changes made to an image. Resizing the viewer panel should not resize the thumbnails, and it would be good if you could see two rows worth.
